OysterizerInsomniac: How Do People Promote Their Music?

OysterizerInsomniac 10.27.13	If anyone knows of any small blogs that might be down to review the album when we've finished it, I'd appreciate the info.
XingKing 10.27.13	What I did was type in bands I sounded similar to with blogs who put their albums up to download. I sent them emails telling them about my music and such and such and then a decent amount of them wound up reposting it for me and bringing my bandcamp a ton of traffic. I also plan to burn a bunch of blank cds and drop them off at record shops sometime soon with links to my facebook and bandcamp written on them.
Calc 10.27.13	become a sputbro and youll get some hits here. but since thats kinda sad to be, the contacting sites to review the release is a good idea. xing also brings up a good point, you have to spend money to make money so to speak so burn those CDs and give them out at shops. Also be good live, shitty live bands don't tend to spread well word-of-mouth wise

OysterizerInsomniac 10.27.13	lol yeah I guess you're right. That CD's idea sounds like a good idea, I think I'll do that. Hopefully we'll be able to play some more shows soon. The town I live in has pretty much no music scene, but I live in the bay area so I figure if I ask around enough I'll be able to get my band booked at some non-san francisco shows (so hard to play there if you're not already some kind of established act).
sailSAway 10.27.13	i'm in the same boat man. getting noticed is a long process. i don't expect to make money from my first album. it's better for people to hear it, see you live, and anticipate a second album!

Storm In A Teacup 10.27.13	an additional idea separate from these others is, if you are good live, get the youtube video rights of a popular song to cover (or two if you want a mash-up) and make the best possible live video you can and it can get you anywhere from a little to a lot of extra attention.

jdennis31 10.27.13	If you post a song on YouTube, put random shit in description tags. I put beautiful big breasted women and tits on mine and got like 200 hits before ever telling anyone about it
sailSAway 10.27.13	play acoustic everywhere you can so people can hear the complexity and brilliance of your tunes
insomniac15 10.27.13	Send promo copies to blogs and websites for reviews. You gain exposure this way. Play some gigs as release parties in your town and near. Some merchandise always helps (whether stickers, T-shirts, CDs or posters), people buy if they look cool. If you have the budget, make a live video (filmed at some places you guys are gigging) for one of the tracks.
vibhorsir 11.27.13	Hey man, I'm actually in the band Nam Le. We really benefited from sending out emails to small blogs and stuff. We got really lucky and had an album stream on goldflakepaint which brought a lot of viewers to the site. I'm not kidding when I say it was out of luck, the guy woke up and happened to see our album on bandcamp and checked it out. I'm trying to find other ways to promote but small blogs has been the most successful.
