| And So I Watch You From Afar
Live at Fitzgerald's in Houston, TX. w/ This Town Needs Guns / Mylets / Sunrise and Ammunition | 1 | | Sunrise and Ammunition Tesseract
Very interesting stuff. They integrated some odd time signatures and melodies into a pretty cohesive product, and overall were pretty entertaining. | 2 | | Mylets Retcon
First of all, this guy (Henry Kohen) has some real talent with a) his technique on guitar and b) his ability to produce well-layered and vivid soundscapes as a one-piece. Kohen also is able to package these elements in a hectic and constantly changing way, that keeps things from getting stale... But my God this guys vocals destroyed what could have been some pretty good music. It's like he took the worst elements of emo and pop-punk singing and made that his vocal style. It was almost insulting that he thought they were a good idea. And what was even more sad was that when he came on to sing with TTNG, he wasn't half bad. I guess he wanted only HIS performance to suffer...
...But at least it was better than going upstairs to see Periphery or Born of Osiris (who were also playing that night) | 3 | | TTNG 13.0.0.0.0
They started off sounding same-y, but as the set went on things got progressively better, and the only real complaint about TTNG for me would be their inability to create large dynamic changes. Some of the songs they played could've been great if only they had more crescendo. That being said, it was an engaging performance, and unique to my ears, so overall a job well done. | 4 | | And So I Watch You From Afar All Hail Bright Futures
ASIWYFA absolutely killed it. They compress some very powerful music into (for the most part) fairly short pieces. They had great sound, were extremely tight as a group, and their dynamic range (unlike TTNG) was excellent, causing the listener to lean in close during moments of calm, and making it irresistible to move to moments of climax. They just had great power, and were obviously passionate about what they do, and that power and passion made for a really positive and uplifting hour of music. It was a treat to see them perform. | |
