Artsy Fartsy Movies

Movies that are just flat out weird, but some people consider "art." I like rsome of them, but rhate the others. Directors like Stanley Kubrick, Shane rCarruth, Charlie Kaufman, the Coen rbrothers and Richard Kelly. Just fucked rup, weird shit. Also, list is digs from this year.
1Danny Brown
Old

Upstream Colors
Just watched this one. Had to look into it a bit, but once I finally understood it and
rewatched it, I found it quite enjoyable.
2The Dodos
Carrier

Primer
I actually haven't seen this one all the way through. I keep starting it and having
to stop. Need to sit down and give it a good watching.
3Janelle Monae
The Electric Lady

Donnie Darko
The obvious one that everyone knows and either loves or hates. My first really
"mind fuck" of a movie. Dig it pretty hard still.
4Lorde
Pure Heroine

The Box
Piece of shit. Richard Kelly has some great ideas, and this is definitely one of them,
it was just executed so poorly.
5Run the Jewels
Run the Jewels

Southland Tales
Oh look, another Richard Kelly movie. The Justin Timberlake scene with "All These
Things That I've Done" is fucking awesome, and the last half of the movie seemed
actually legitimate, but the first half (not including the part that can be found only
in out-of-print graphic novel form) was garbage. Really wanted to like it.
6King Krule
6 Feet Beneath the Moon

A Serious Man
The Coen brothers are just weird, and this is a great example of their "artsy" side. I
generally love all of their stuff, but this one left me with a weird feeling, especially
that ending.
7Arctic Monkeys
AM

Moonrise Kingdom
I honestly consider Wes Anderson's style pretty artsy. I love all of his stuff, but
this is easily my favorite movie, by him and maybe just in general. Pretty pumped
for his new one.
8Cloudkicker
Subsume

Being John Malkovich
Super weird and over the top. Loved every second of it.
9Franz Ferdinand
Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Super cool. Who doesn't want to forget at least one of their exes?
10Kanye West
Yeezus

A Clockwork Orange
Read the book first, and honestly liked it a bit more. Although if there's one movie
that's made me truly uncomfortable to watch, it's this one.
11Touche Amore
Is Survived By

Moon
Quiet, desolate, ominous. Really cool for such a low budget film.
12Chelsea Wolfe
Pain is Beauty

Drive
Maybe not as artsy as the rest, but still a different type of movie than the norm.
Glad it got the attention it did.
