Wanker Albums
What is a Wanker Album? It is an album that the artist will show some superiority, arrogance, a bit of bitterness and nastiness. Some of the he albums I have listed below are albums that I like a lot, some less so. Please feel free to add some other Wanker Albums in the comments. |
| 1 | | Pink Floyd The Wall
Roger Waters was one of my heroes when I was younger. I especially loved The Wall. Now it sounds like a bitter old man rant and bleat about the loss of his father (who he never met). Other wanker albums of note by Waters: The Final Cut - where he still bleats about Dad and as an added bonus, he shows some lovely racism. The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking also has some wanker moments and he adds overt sexism as well. Aren't we lucky! |
| 2 | | Elvis Costello King of America
Almost the ultimate wanker - arrogant, cynical and bitter. Any of his albums could be chosen, but I chose this one because of the title - "King of America" being that Costello is English |
| 3 | | The Who Quadrophenia
Pete Townshead is right up there for number one wanker (I think Waters is a nose ahead). His music is average and bland. He comes across very badly in interviews. His recent pedophilia "research" really sealed the wanker label. |
| 4 | | Shellac Terraform
I love Albini. He's an amazing guitarist and producer. His Shellac albums are great. But as much as I hate to admit it, he does come across as a bit of a wanker. The lyrics "...spread doodoo and feces on the wall" are not his best. |
| 5 | | Randy Newman 12 songs
Yet another wanker singer/songwriter. "Little People" is a nasty little song. |
| 6 | | Lou Reed Metal Machine Music
Releasing four sides of electronic noise to piss off your record label is a wanker thing to do to your fans. |
| 7 | | John Lennon Some Time in New York City
John Lennon is my favourite Beatle, but he is the "Wanker Beatle". His solo career is full of wanker songs, e.g, God, Steel and Glass, and How do you Sleep? just to name a few. But Some Time in New York City takes the cake for wanker album - almost unlistenable - full for sloganeering and arrogance. The song "Woman is the Nigger of the World" is revoltingly PC and hypocritical of Lennon. |
| 8 | | The Mothers of Invention We're Only In It For The Money
Zappa is the most appealing wanker. We're only in it for the Money is a wanker album title and his lyrics are also full of wanker putdowns. It is his humour that makes his wankerness more acceptable. |
| 9 | | The Afghan Whigs Gentlemen
This album is a wanker concept album - "I am a wanker and this is how I'm a wanker" being the concept. What makes it worse is that he comes across as faking his "I'm sorry I fucked around" - he actually is secretly proud of his screwing around. All this being said, this is one of the great 90's albums. |
| 10 | | Beck Mellow Gold
Beck is a Scientologist - The ultimate wanker cult |
