Seven albums I've been sent and need to finish (or start...) reviewing
1 Virgin Black
Requiem - Fortissimo

Wanted to hate this based on the horribly gay band name and ridiculously pretentious album title. The "Requiem in G Minor" on the back is icing on the cake. Surprisingly, this is a solid album. Not as sickeningly lame and "gothic symphonic" as I'd been told to expect, but rather a solid death/doom album. Fortissimo in deed...it is loud. Between a 3.5 and a 4.
2 Sculptured
Embodiment

Artsy fartsy death metal. Crazy drumming, in both a good and bad way, with some keys that sound both awful and awesome at the same time. Two dudes from Agalloch, but it sounds nothing like 'em. Thankfully lacks the sax of their earlier albums. Also between a 3.5-4.
3 Wyclef Jean
Carnival Vol. II

Got this way back, haven't really dug into it yet. Seems really disjointed; too many guests, not enough good. Probably between a 2-3.
4 Verse and Radiation
Along the Celestial Ruins

Unique blend of metal genres. Not in a huge rush with this. Got it a while back, but it came out a few years ago. Sorry Acerbic Noise! I WILL DO IT! Seems like it'll be at least a solid 3
5 El Chupa Cobras
El Chupa Cobras

Haven't even played this yet. Press release tells me it's fun, proggy punk with some metal thrown in. We'll see!
6 Gezoleen
Black Spaces Between Stars

From the bit I've listened to this, it was a frustrating blend of "ambient" and something Mike Patton would do. Was not feeling it, but I will do it eventually.
7Enemy of the Sun
Shadows

Stupid, awkward and unintentionally hilarious, this album reminded me of a horrible mix of thrash and death with some awful Faith No More impersonations thrown in. I don't see this getting more than a 2.5.
