| Music For Night Walking
So over the summer I have realized that many albums sound so many times rbetter at night, like rdamn. Here's what I listen to on nightwalking journeys. rUnfortunately school starts on the Third rso I won't be able to do this as roften, but whatever. | 1 | | Burial Untrue
Holy, before I listened to this while walking at night alone I just passed it off as
slightly above average. But this album just breaths the loneliness, and slight
paranoia with walking in the dark under streetlights. Listen while coming home
slightly depressed after a shitty party and stop in a McDonalds and cry. (UK
Garage) | 2 | | Carissa's Wierd Songs About Leaving
Downtrodden and full of regret, all enhanced after dark. (Slowcore) | 3 | | Vangelis Blade Runner Soundtrack
Works especially well if you've seen the film. (Dark Ambient) | 4 | | DJ Shadow Endtroducing.....
The trip-hop classic sounds like it was made for being listened to at night. (Trip-Hop) | 5 | | Slowdive Souvlaki
Shoegaze usually doesn't work for this kind of atmosphere but Soulaki just has a
sound of longing that fits. (Shoegaze) | 6 | | Gris Il Etait une Foret...
Most black metal is great night listening but the emotions on Gris just get amplified
to new heights at night. (Depressive Black Metal) | 7 | | Julia Holter Loud City Song
Fantastic, dreamy indie pop(?) record from this year ~~~~~~~~ (Ambient Pop, or
something) | 8 | | cLOUDDEAD cLOUDDEAD
Odd stream of conscious lyrics compete with trance like ambient beats. (Abstract
Hip-hop) | 9 | | Grimes Visions
"And now the walk about, after dark
It's my point of view
If someone could break your neck
Coming up behind you, always coming and you'd never have a clue" Spooky (Indie
Pop) | 10 | | Godspeed You! Black Emperor F#A# (Infinity)
This makes you feel like you're the only one alive at night. (Post-Rock) | 11 | | Ensemble Pearl Ensemble Pearl
Great Drone/Ambient album from this year, full of drones and dark atmospheres
(Drone, Ambient) | 12 | | Crystal Castles Crystal Castles
A bit more poppy than the rest of the list, but the hard bass sounds and minor
melodies surprisingly makes for a good night listen. (Synthpop) | 13 | | American Football American Football
Get emo, get sad. (Emo) | 14 | | Van der Graaf Generator Godbluff
Dark minimalistic prog. (Progressive Rock) | 15 | | Whirr Around
Another Shoegaze release, this one is a bit darker than their other releases, and
feels nostalgic and stuff. (Shoegaze) | 16 | | Joy Division Closer
(Post-Punk) | 17 | | Solid Space Space Museum
Some Lo-fi space inspired post-punk, sounds lonely like space. (Post-Punk) | 18 | | Grouper The Man Who Died in His Boat
This year's Grouper album is seriously one of my favourite ambient albums ever, her
reverb laden acoustic guitar chords topped by her haunting voice is just perfect
sitting by a stream in the dark. (Ambient) | 19 | | Massive Attack Mezzanine
Pulsing bass, and light vocal samples. (Trip-Hop) | 20 | | Mogwai Happy Songs For Happy People
Sad Songs for Sad People. (Post-Rock) | 21 | | The Haxan Cloak Excavation
This year's 2spooky4me album, I didn't really get this until I got scared as hell
listening to it at night. (Dark Ambient) | 22 | | R.E.M. Automatic For The People
I used to listen to this a ton when I was younger, but only really came to
appreciate it until now. (Alt-Rock, Sad) | |
