Athom 08.29.13	I always considered most of these bands sort of "entry" level hardcore. Especially now since the genre is in a youth resurgence again and these albums are a lot of the go-to things that are getting a lot of people in that 15-18 year old bracket stuck on hardcore. That being said I do enjoy about half of these so I'm not gonna talk shit even though I never got why Trapped Under Ice and Cold World are so popular. The youth-crew resurgence of the last couple years is moving more and more towards powerviolence in regards to the next big thing so I'm stoked on that.

I personally think that like 2 years ago the powerviolence and youth crew was coming back but I feel like the Pop-punk from the past year really sucked all that back. Like Title Fight, Daylight, Balance and Composure are all getting SO BIG so fast! Yeah, half the stuff is entry level but that doesnt take anything away from the sound or albums. HOWEVER, I am also fucking excited cause i just feel like most kids now a days have a computer and are able to find hardcore or independent music! 10 years ago when I was going to shows It was the same group of 100-200 kids id see at every show in LA or Phoenix but now theres so many! and old school punkers or hardcore guys are bummed that its becoming more accessible but im just glad to hear stuff like Daylight on MTV or whatever disgusting clear channel conglomerate the kids listen to now a days.

Athom 08.29.13	I'm not really into that whole grunge revival flannelcore scene. I like Balance and Composure a bit because they remind me of Hum and Failure, but that's about it. The hardcore scene is massively split and no where near unified behind that stuff though. Sure, on top they're sort of taking the place of a lot of the kids who started shitty melodic hardcore bands after hearing a More than Life record but I've always considered that to be the top of the spectrum. Underneath that you'd then have the crew and edge kids who do their thing until they turn 22 and realize that work sucks and sometimes you want a beer to cope with actually having a job and not hanging out at Denny's at 2am. The true lifeblood of the hardcore scene to me lies beneath that. It's the crust kids, the grind fans, the power violence lifers. This scene has BLOWN THE FUCK UP as of late. It used to be a really small insular community that kept to itself and was very cliquish but now the DIY scene has been opening its doors to everyone and expanding out. All the spots in southern california community that used to be considered hotspots by what was left of the post-hardcore community before it cannibalized itself are dead. The places to be aren't on the strip or the Chain Reaction anymore. It's Aladdin Jr's, VLHS, Bridgetown DIY, The Dial, Unit B, Che Cafe. This is where the groundwork for the future is made.

Im assuming you're well in your 20's like me and that statement you just made about realizing life sucks, AHAHAHAHA totally man. The same narrow minded hxc or scene kids that never really grew up until its a little late. the old places like Chain Reaction was the biz like 8 years ago! the Clubhouse, Metal D, Rocky point cantina, all the good clubs in Phoenix closed up. Theres only one left and they don't mind the flannelcore... ha I wish kids would look at what else the "scene" has to offer but IMO its way better getting them started down the right path, especially youner, than the Nsync or Garth Brooks and shit I grew up with. Not to mention the internet not being EVEN REMOTELY close to what it is now. Like kids can literally find ANY BAND ON HERE! I had to fucking buy the tapes and CDs before I finally got Napster to steal everything! and even then, I didn't know what to steal! Now you can just camp on a site like this for a month and then have so many artists thrown at you and so many things. Fuckin' kids these days. Taking if for granted and shit too. haha
