08.05.13 | yeah there is no ethical issue behind it for me. if i had loads of disposable income, i would for sure be buying all my music |

08.05.13 | If the big record companies made their huge archives available in lossless for a low price (dollar an album or something) and made it downloadable at fast bitrates with no DRM I'd gladly buy buy buy but they are stupid cunts that still don't understand the marketplace so until that happens I just dl some and buy the stuff I really like.
Oh and if someone cant afford to buy music then it makes no difference if that person downloads it or not as they aint getting money either way - in fact it may help sell the music to people that buy it as it spreads awareness of the music. |

08.05.13 | Personally, I think there's a lot of enjoyment to be had by virtue of collecting CDs or records. I find pleasure in watching my collection grow and revisiting the sleeves of my favourite records, and some of the art on some of those albums are fantastic - they make for pretty intense decor. None of this "intimacy" is present on a digital purchase, and I abhor them because of it.
I will admit that I do use downloading to access music by artists I'm not too sure about, though. However I try to remember that there's some respect that needs to be conveyed to these artists - so I personally take some gambles when buying CDs, and get merch and go to shows whenever I can. |

08.05.13 | Those anti piracy idiots are always implying that you would have bought the item if you had not pirated it, which is usually not the case
I could buy 20 albums or pirate 200 |

08.05.13 | Honestly, my prediction is that all music will be free by the next decade and bands will have to make money off touring and merch alone. |
Scoot
08.05.13 | it's free |
menawati
08.05.13 | and the anti-piracy idiots also stick shit like DRM and fucking adware on CDs which puts off a erson who would usually buy it - like those damn shit annoying things they used to put at start of DVDs that you couldnt skip all about pirate DVDs its enough to make anyone say fuck that and buy pirated copies with the anti-piracy films removed |

08.05.13 | buy music when the artist really rules, like gorguts or meshuggah |

08.05.13 | yeah really, it's hard to have a DVD and sit through all those fucking menus and previews and commercials when it costs 15 bucks, when you could download it for free without leaving the house and it doesn't have all that shit on it |

08.05.13 | I buy when I really like the artist or think they really deserve the money (for me Devin Townsend, Battlecross, and Dillinger are a few) but I dl 95% of my music. Shit is expensive, but I do really enjoy physically owning the cd. |

This, pretty much
Any band I'm not entirely sure of (but have obviously heard good things about, hence me checking them out), I'll probably end up downloading an album to check out. Sure, I could stream a track or two online, but I'd rather be able to listen to it whenever I want to, instead of having to be constantly next to my computer or whatever. If I like it I'll buy it, if I don't I wont.
Lately, I've been downloading a lot of 12" electronic stuff that I already own. My rationale is I've already payed for it (I own god knows how many slabs of wax) but the effort it would take for me to convert all of that into a digital format versus a cheeky download outweighs any kind of conflict I might have with the idea |

08.05.13 | I bought some CD's cuz I have some subscription with some clubs, magazines and associations in colombia. But in this fucking country tryin to get material of some underground bands is a pain in the ass so I prefer to download that shit, thanks to mediafire, kickass torrents and pirate bay I have the full discogrpahy of acts like isis, converge and more |

08.05.13 | I very much dislike the idea of buying mp3s.
1. For the most part they are overpriced as hell (10$ for an album is almost cd price and when iTunes can't even be fucked to give at least 320kbps well they can fuck off)
2. I truly do believe that if I ever got around to recording anything I would post it on bandcamp as name your price. I know it's a little hypocritical of me seeing as I've never gone through the process and can't comment on how arduous it may be.However, if I did, it would be something I do for myself, to express something, which is what I believe art is really about.
That being said, I dish out a lot of money on CD's and vinyl. Here I am paying for a physical aspect as well as the music. Like Irving said, it's something that I think looks nice, that I can hold on to, enjoy the art, follow the lyrics as I listen and it's a way for me to encourage the bands that I feel really stand out as well. |

08.05.13 | the only way i ever buy digital is if i get itunes cards for christmas or some shit (even then, i usually buy other things) |

08.05.13 | 95% of the time I download/torrent and I save to buy my favourite albums on vinyl. I stopped buying CDs a few years ago. I would buy more but Vinyl/CDs are so overpriced considering the labels take in the lion's share of the profit, not the actual band members. If I want to show my support for a band, I'll buy merchandise if I can afford it and especially if it's a band/artist I know isn't pulling in tons of money.

08.05.13 | Personally, I use the internet to check out an album. If the album turns out to be really good and I can acquire it in a logical price (I never spend over 15 euros on one album, unless I want it really badly) then it is sure as hell that I will buy it.
And of course, all the classics from the 60's, 70's, 80's and early 90's are on my purchase list anyways.
So far, I have purchased over 200 albums. |

08.05.13 | Realistically, downloading is just more practical than spending 10+ bucks on an album that contains 3 or 4 songs you like. Then you must upload it to your computer and then on your iPod. Just download it. HOWEVER, I WOULD NEVER DOWNLOAD MUSIC ILLEGALLY OR EVEN FOR FREE!!! Downloading music illegally is just pathetic. |

08.05.13 | I buy CDs every now and then, mostly when I can't find high-quality downloads of specific albums I feel I need. And other than that, I'd get a tape player and turntable if I could afford to keep up on that shit. Alas, I can't. |

08.05.13 | stealing vs. buying
I mean it really is that simple. Obviously I download but really I shouldn't.
also we've had this thread/conversation a million times and nothing new ever comes of it. we're all in the same boat, more or less. |
