07.24.13 My Top 10 Favorite Albums

My Top 10 Favorite Albums

My favorite albums of all time.
1Alesana
A Place Where the Sun is Silent

Alesana has always been one of my favorite bands. In was fact, it was this band that introduced me to screaming
altogether, so I owe them a lot. This is by far their best album, in my opinion. For me, it has a great sense of "adventure"
that the other albums just lack, and it has one of the best storylines of any concept album I've heard.
The thing that made this record for me was the great use of horns and strings during the whole thing. Alesana had hinted at
the use of them during their previous release (The Emptiness) during the likes of the strong melodic ending of Annabel, for
example. Lullaby of the Crucified, the best song ever made by them if you ask me, is just a natural extension of this. A
soaring poppy chorus rules for the first part, followed by a quiet part, spoken beautifully in italian, and finally then the song
rises, the band firing from all cylinders, having the (pardon this) screamer scream his lungs out, while a strong section of
violin and pianos backs him up, and what can only be described as a guitar solo wraps the whole thing up.
And while Lullaby is by far the best song, it still contains other awesome tracks to accompany it. The nearly-instrumental
ending of A Forbidden Dance, the choir-driven middle of Circle VII: Sins of the Lion, the great nearly pop-punk Welcome to
the Vanity Faire and the slower-paced The Best Laid Plans... are all incredibly solid songs and some of the best, if not the
best, material this band ever released.
Does this record have flaws? Yeah, a few. The Temptress is only enjoyable for about a minute and then it just gets too
repetitive, and The Wanderer just falls flat. Does it make it any worse? Not really. It's just one of those records where the
good parts massively upstage the bad parts, at least in my opinion.
