Riviere
07.17.13 | Got into him a couple months ago, don't know why I waited so long. The dude has so much good shit. From Her to Eternity and Let Love In are my favorites. |
osmark86
07.17.13 | Yeah those albums are great too. I was going to add Let Love In to this list as well, but I opted to keep it short and chose "The Firstborn Is Dead" instead. |
SmersH
07.17.13 | Firstborn is Dead - so underrated. It's a gem... "six strings that drew blood" and "blind lemon jefferson" are class, love the raw sound of those early records.
Be sure to check out Your Funeral... My Trial - "Long Time Man" is awesome. |
osmark86
07.17.13 | oh yeah, that album is class too and I love "Long Time Man". doing the discog thing chronologically. currently at Nocturama. |
SmersH
07.17.13 | Nice!
hmm, Nocturama never gelled with me, unfortunately. Some good tunes, but definitely his weakest, IMO. Pity it seems to be the only album of his i ever see on vinyl... |
osmark86
07.17.13 | possibly because his other classics are on demand ;). yeah, I've heard it's generally accepted as his weakest effort, but I'm sure it still has some good moments as this man seems incapable of failure. |
SmersH
07.17.13 | ha, possibly. babe i'm on fire is great, yeah... can't remember anymore.
enjoy abattoir. |
osmark86
07.17.13 | damn sure I will! Grinderman is great too, so I got that to look forward to revisiting. |
SCREAMorphine
07.17.13 | I was obsessed with his music for awhile there, great musician.
Great list |
SubtleBody
07.17.13 | Saw him perform Tupelo live and it was pretty much the best thing ever. Personally, I think his best album is No More Shall We Part.
Also check out his work with The Boys Next Door/The Birthday Part and Grinderman.
And listen to his soundtracks and stuff with Warren Ellis.
And read his novels, they're amazing. |
SubtleBody
07.17.13 | "A fine Cash adaptation indeed."
Don't insult the genius of Cave. Nick Cave wrote the Mercy Seat and Cash covered it. |
SubtleBody
07.17.13 | Nocturama is still a 4/5 even though it's probably in his "bottom" albums. |
osmark86
07.17.13 | Ah, was under the impression that Cash wrote it first. my bad indeed. |
osmark86
07.17.13 | I've checked out The Boys Next Door/The Birthday Part and it contains some great material too. however, I'm more keen on his material with the Bad Seeds personally. I imagine Tupelo live must have been an amazing experience. A bit jealous. |
SmersH
07.17.13 | I was front row at Massey Hall in Toronto back in March for his show... Tupelo makes for an amazing encore. |
PunchforPunch
07.17.13 | good music |
osmark86
07.17.13 | you guys checked out Sikth's cover of Tupelo? |
SubtleBody
07.17.13 | SikTh's cover is great, but not as good as the original. Stagger Lee live was also incredible. |
osmark86
07.17.13 | yeah, they did a great job translating it to their own sound whilst owning up the original version (which as you say is better). where and when did you see him live? |
SubtleBody
07.18.13 | Melbourne's Sidney Myer Music Bowl, a few months ago. Got to touch his hand and cried tears of sweet, salty joy. |
osmark86
07.25.13 | sweetness! that's brilliant |
Rowan5215
07.25.13 | SikTh's cover of Tupelo is fucking crazy. Need to check the original. |
osmark86
07.25.13 | damn right! it's feels. check out the whole album mate. |
Rowan5215
07.25.13 | Will add it to my list man. |
