apert
07.06.13 | you mean if it was recorded in 2013 as well or the recording from 86 |
TronaldDump
07.06.13 | Recorded in 2013, sorry didn't clarify. |
sonictheplumber
07.06.13 | hmm quite perplexing |
apert
07.06.13 | james is vocals are nowhere near as good now, but it would still riff hard so only a bit worse |
TronaldDump
07.06.13 | I agree apert, which is why I think 4 would be a solid rating for a case like this. |
MuhNamesTyler
07.06.13 | "Recorded in 2013, sorry didn't clarify."
kinda blows my mind to think about what people would say about it if it were somehow recorded back then and released now. |
TronaldDump
07.06.13 | Kind of like if Deftones release Eros 20+ years from now. |
tempest--
07.06.13 | 5 because its a 5 |
someguest
07.06.13 | And you can't discuss this without finding an album to replace it and its influence at the time. |
Gwyn.
07.06.13 | i would rate it the same i would today
3 |
Keyblade
07.06.13 | same. would have been my first metal album regardless |
manosg
07.06.13 | Compared to the majority of today's shit it would be still a 5 but it wouldn't be as good as in 1986. |
amemento
07.06.13 | influence =/= somethings good though |
SpiritCrusher2
07.06.13 | I base my rating mostly on the quality of the songs and songwriting, so I think it would still be a 5, yea
BUT MoP couldn't be written/recorded today because Cliff Burton is dead |
Mike08
07.06.13 | i would rate it the same i would today
(2.5)
I love, LOVE, drums. RtL has better riffs (- Orion) and that's a 4. This experiment wouldn't affect me much because 70's and 90's are my favorite years in music. (yes I know this is 86') |
MuhNamesTyler
07.06.13 | but if it was never released music today probably wouldn't sound the same and if it doesn't sound the same we would be listenin to different shit so our tastes would be different as well thus affecting our ratings |
KILL
07.06.13 | this is retarded |
chemicalmarriage
07.06.13 | rabble rabble rabble |
MuhNamesTyler
07.06.13 | lol yeah |
bloc
07.07.13 | I have a feeling it wouldn't be regarded as highly |
mifzal
07.07.13 | would be considered a 80's nostalgic NWOBHM tribute or something. at least a 4 worthy.
what if Rust in Peace was released today? what if riffs in Holy wars and wake up dead was invented today? an album like Symbolic will be considered a masterpiece. |
mifzal
07.07.13 | about the birth of thrash, bands like merciful fate, motorhead and venom were already building the
foundations for this style so it's natural that it would evolve into a much faster and aggressive
style. |
thumbcrusher
07.07.13 | would probably be called faux thrash on here |
rockandmetaljunkie
08.05.13 | Kerry King was asked once a similar question, If RIB could get it's classic status if it was
released in this day and age. King said:
"If you released Reign in Blood today, no one would give a shit. It was timing; it was a change in
sound."
I think his answer was spot on. Probably the same can be applied for 'Tallica's MOP. I think good
timing is everything. Be able to write sth that corresponds perfectly to your timeline, and
simultaneously break down the musical barriers of your age.
"Compared to the majority of today's shit it would be still a 5 but it wouldn't be as good as in
1986."
True... |
