My coworker's like a 45 year old dude from Pennsylvania, and he chews tobacco and spits it into the feed bags because the boss would catch him if he spat on the concrete floors lol. He also has a gun rack in his pick up, where anyone driving behind him could see his big old AK-47 right in the window. I honestly love my job though. And Western Colorado is where life is at let me tell you. The country though. Just. It's too much.

North0House2 07.04.13	Zilbel, Colorado's pretty empty when it comes to rednecks, until you come to the Western Slope- places like Grand Junction, Delta, Montrose, etc. It's pretty much all agriculture out here, so it makes sense. But man are they everywhere. It's fantastic, to be honest. Rednecks have a bad rep, but once you get to know them, they're hilarious and genuinely nice people (usually).
North0House2 07.04.13	The best part of my day though, hands down, was when I threw a bag of horse feed in the back of this huge Ford pickup, and this guy that was probably 112 suddenly appeared in the passenger seat, and he said something. I'm pretty sure it was "God bless you, son." He only had one tooth, and I felt like I was in a feel-good movie about dogs and farming.

Adabelle 07.04.13	Yeah I guess the view we have of them is pretty much that, heavily stereotyped etc. I think part of that comes from how when people from Europe visit the US they tend to go west coast or east coast and not many people go to the Midwest or Deep South. So haven't ever met a 'redneck'

The unfortunate thing is when you have some really brilliant people (there are a lot of engineers here in Huntsville, AL who work for NASA), but their accent can completely overshadow all of those qualities. I even have trouble with it and I've been around them for quite a while.

" The rednecks over here in Western Colorado tend to actually be quite wealthy, educated, and practical. Almost every one of the rednecks I've met over here has built at least one house, set up irrigation for at least one field, can fly a plane, knows how to weld, or runs a cattle ranch of a couple thousand head. That's hard stuff to learn, so they know how to do things. Heck, a guy we know over here lives in a trailer because he's saving up until he can build his own house with cash, yet he has a ton of cattle, and recently cut a field of his hay and sent it to Denver for free for all of the misplaced horses and livestock due to the wildfires here these past few months. He probably lost about 10,000 bucks doing that, but he did it anyway. So I'm finding they meet the redneck mentality and way of life, but not necessarily the stereotypes. But that might just be Colorado, because pretty much everyone from Colorado is nice.
