Drummerboy123 06.25.13	Woah, I actually do 1 as well when testing headphones hahaha. I got a pair of AKG K451. They're pretty sweet for the price and get the job done. Will probs save up for some even better cans down the line.

Masochist 06.25.13	Sea - I'mma sound like a hipster fuck, I realize, but Zune Premium Earbuds sound better :-P. Drummerboy - No lie: the one time I've ever been to Sea World, they were using "Suddenly" to test the sound system somewhere in the park. You could hear it starting and restarting across the park. TRM - ATH-M50's are awesome, absolutely. I only don't have mine anymore because I broke them on accident, and used it as self-justification to try a different pair of headphones.

bowlofsoup 06.25.13	Brainwavz HM3. For the $30 I paid for them, I literally have nothing to complain about. I've always wanted to upgrade to something more expensive, but I just don't see myself being able to tell the difference that well.
Titan 06.25.13	The Definitives are incredible speakers if you ever have some cash to blow. I have everything set up in my living room as a 'home theater'. My receiver is a pretty good one but even if you get an entry level one, they will sound amazing and are worth the cash spent.

An Audiophile set-up might use some Pre-Sonus Audio Interface (aka external soundcard), a tube amp, a FiiO (insert model here) headphone amp, and headphones that cost somewhere north of $400. I have none of that. All that being said...you only NEED a headphone amp if your headphones need the extra juice to drive. My headphones could probably benefit a bit from a cheap one, but not much (they're only 80 ohms).
wacknizzle 06.25.13	Don't own headphones atm. Either do all my listening in my room or in the car. My vinyl set-up is a legit Audio Technica Lp-120 I bought about a year and a half ago, audio receiver is Technics SC-203 from like the 70's or 80's and some big Sony speakers from the 90's, set-up sounds absolutely amazing as far as I'm concerned and goddamn can it crank if I want to. Listening Botch on it is awesome!

I also want to check out those Monoprice Hi-Fi Premium DJ headphones everyone keeps saying are awesome. Titan - I'd love to be able to set up a premium home theater system in my living room. Problem is, I don't have money to do it...and I don't have a "living room" or a "home" to do it in :-P

bakkermaarten007 06.25.13	Well, the S4's are the best in-ears in terms of price/quality I've ever used, the One's are good headphones as well but not worth their price. However, now they have a discount I think, which makes them a good buy. You should consider Klipsch gear if you want cristal clear treble, a little overpowered bass and okay mids. I use an equalizer, so I can adjust those to my needs =)
Masochist 06.25.13	I do love bass, but is the treble super high? I tested the DJ1's and though I loved how deep and super crisp the bass was, I was put-off by how bright the highs were (and the near-absence of mids).
anarchistfish 06.25.13	My main ones are JVC HA-S500s. Brilliant quality for their price. Only problems are isolation is low and soundstage is pretty small
bowlofsoup 06.25.13	To clear up what I said, the upgrade portion is just a personal thing. I don't think I would be a person to notice how much better my music sounds on a better rig. The HM3 are awesome for what I need them to do, but I'm sure someone would be able to tell that they're budget headphones. Still, they are absolutely ridiculous for how much the cost. They're rebranded fischer audio FA-004's.

Masochist 06.25.13	Upgrading headphones certainly isn't necessary, especially if you're happy with the pair you have, and absolutely if you don't think the upgrade would really enhance your music listening experience all that much. But if you decide to, you'd be surprised at how things change...how the way you listen to music changes. "They're rebranded fischer audio FA-004's." So I've read. Considering the high praise I hear of Fischer Audio headphones (and the fact that I really want a pair of FA-011's myself), that makes me even more interested.

Ended up buying those cheap Sony headphones, and I swear they keep sound in (so that other people can't hear what I'm listening to) better than any other headphones I've ever owned. I was listening to music while sharing a room with someone who was trying to go to sleep, and even in perfect silence with my music turned as loud as I could comfortably listen to it, he couldn't hear it (we were both sleeping on the floor).

bowlofsoup 06.25.13	I got a pair of yuin Pk3's for $15 from a friend, and they are seriously the best earbuds I've ever listened to. I wouldn't buy them for $40 though. They sound amazing, but the build quality is pretty bad.

Oneironaut 06.25.13	Are the ATH-M50's the best for its price point (if I remember correctly they run about $100-120)? I've got Grado SR-80's, but broke them/want a new pair that maybe doesn't have an open stage design that allows audio to seep in and out. I want cans with great sound, but are practical to listen to on the go. Any suggestions?
Masochist 06.25.13	Grado SR-80's are the cans that I listened to #2 with that inspired me to include it on the list. If you're looking for closed-back, ATH-M50's will always be a solid choice south of $150, especially as a starting point. Sennheiser HD-280's are good in that range, too, as are V-MODA M80's (which you can find used under $120). But it all depends on your tastes.

c0ffee 06.25.13	I started out with some Grado SR-60s (and I still travel with 'em), but my current setup is a custom build...Magnum v4 drivers with mahogany cans and a custom cable job. I reused some Grado gimbals and added on a new headband. When I'm using my laptop, I usually run these through a Leckerton Audio UHA-4 DAC/amp.

c0ffee 06.25.13	Too add to that, I'd recommend the Magnums to anyone (I think there's a newer version now). If you want to get really simple, just buy some cheap/used SR-60s and switch out the drivers with the Magnums. The Grados are easy to disassemble but the new drivers need to be soldered to the Grado cable. Actually, I'd try to cannibalize some SR-80s instead...I'm pretty sure this will be the cheapest model with the upgraded stock cable. You'd have a hard time beating that sound for that price. Keep in mind that the Grados (with or without the new drivers) are open back designs.
