06.20.13 Top 20 Muse Tracks

Top 20 Muse Tracks

My top twenty Muse tracks of all time, including both album and non-album tracks. My personal opinion.
20Muse
United States of Eurasia/Collateral Damage

A generally well-written piece. I'm probably cheating including Collateral Damage, but as it's one track, it exhibits just what they can do.
Highlight: Variety
19Undisclosed Desires

Another track from The Resistance, Undisclosed Desires is generally well written and, moreover, shows just how British Matt Bellamy is.
Highlight: "Mask"
18Micro Cuts

What can you say about Micro Cuts? Such brilliant vocals, and an initiation rite in knowing the lyrics.
Highlight: WTF DID I JUST HEAR?
17Nature_1

One of Muse's best non-album tracks. Highly ambiguous and therefore controversial.
Highlight: Meaning
16Time Is Running Out

An absolute classic. A classic I could not leave off this list.
Highlight: Tempo
15Supermassive Black Hole

One of the keynote tracks of BH&R, SMBH is also probably one of the most popular - not that that scores anything by itself on this list.
Highlight: "Ooh, baby don't you know I suffer..."
14Uprising

My first Muse track will always hold a special place in my heart.
Highlight: "They will not con-fucking-trol us"
13Map Of Your Head

A very important song in many ways. What?
Highlight: "Wearing just socks and a 'phone"
12Invincible

Clever track (yeah they're all clever). Rousing and famous.
Highlight: THAT VIDEO
11Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever)

Has a... shady past. However, an excellently written song which just narrowly misses out on the top ten. Simplicity is key.
Highlight: Suits Bellamy's voice
10Guiding Light

One of Muse's heaviest tracks, particularly of its album. Strong, pure vocals.
Highlight: The intro
9Dead Star

Muse's best non-album track. How could it NOT be up there?
Highlight: "Fighting yourseeeeeeeeeeellllllllllffff"
8Supremacy

Best opening to an album or a live performance I can imagine. Fantastic vocals, powerful intro, definitely Bond-esque. Who needs 'Skyfall'?
Highlight: How can I even put this? Everything from the intro to "Su-upremacy!"
7Blackout

Selected mainly because of the lyrics, but also (rightfully) a classic tune in its own right.
Highlight: "Don't grow up too fast, and don't embrace the past"
6Starlight

Tits. I mean, come on.
Highlight: T-I-T-S. Just kidding. "Our hopes and expectations... Black holes and revelations"
5Resistance

Clever references and great chords make up "Resistance".
Highlight: "It could be wrong, could be wrong"
4Animals

Highest placed track to be chosen purely on the strength of its message. Not many artists could pull off something like that, yet with Muse, it's almost expected.
Highlight: www.youtube.com/watch?v=tFG_5PBl2K8
3Follow Me

Demonstrates just how well Muse can play. The vocals, particularly towards the start, are exceptionally powerful.
Highlight: "Like your life has slipped away... Follow me!"
2Unintended

"Unintended" is simply beautiful. Powerful lyrically and with a superb tune.
Highlight: The melody
1Explorers

Beautiful melody. Worthwhile message. Demonstrates excellent vocals. These combine to make a song which is simply peerless. Perfect.
Highlight: Far too many factors to choose from. Just fantastic.
