05.30.13 | ....in no particular order of course.
and thanks for not giving me public enemy's artwork sputnik, 's not my fault your coding can't handle the full album title |
Brostep
05.30.13 | no love for U2? |
Trebor.
05.30.13 | lol U2 really of all the bands that aren't on this top 5 |
jefflebowski
05.30.13 | well, they're alright, but not top 5 material. beautiful day is legit as album openers go though |
Trebor.
05.30.13 | Bring Da Ruckus
Liquid Swords
Debaser
|
jefflebowski
05.30.13 | obviously there's a ton of songs just behind these 5 but i thought i'd keep it canon |
jefflebowski
05.30.13 | those 3 would probably be next in line to be honest, especially bring da ruckus |
scorpiusx
05.30.13 | Interesting list; I've thought of creating a similar one before. Brostep, agreed on U2: "Where the Streets Have No Name" would be my #1 opener. |
jefflebowski
05.30.13 | it's weird how none of my 5's would get anywhere near this list, except for maybe a tribute to jack johnson and that's only 2 tracks anyway so doesn't really count |
YoYoMancuso
05.30.13 | Seventh Wave
Cherub Rock
Sweet Leaf
Secret Meeting
Speed Trials
|
scorpiusx
05.30.13 | Where the Streets Have No Name

05.30.13 | gimme shelter is a great shout, i actually forgot that was an album opener. greatest ever stones track if you ask me |
AliW1993
05.30.13 | High Fidelity is and will probably always be my favourite film. The book's great too.
Anyway, my (rough) top 5 would look something like this.
Frightened Rabbit - The Modern Leper
Arab Strap - Packs Of Three
At The Drive-In - Arcarsenal
Melvins - Boris
Primal Scream - Movin' On Up |
jefflebowski
05.30.13 | good choices all, nice to see some arab strap love on sputnik too
and yeah, i'd say i just about prefer the book over the film, but i can't really fault either |
AliW1993
05.30.13 | Holy shit another Arab Strap fan! Maybe this place isn't quite as bad as I thought.
I saw the film long before I read the book, which may be why I prefer it. I love the fact that it strays outside the original context (eg, being set in London) but maintains all the quirks.

05.30.13 | plus john cusack and jack black are perfectly cast |
AliW1993
05.30.13 | Yeah, there's a guy who works at my local record shop who looks and acts (in a good way) more like Barry every day, it's hilarious. |
Necrotica
05.30.13 | 5 is cool |
scorpiusx
05.30.13 | Album closers is another really awesome discussion...perhaps I should go write a list like that up. |
zakalwe
05.30.13 | Patti Smith - Gloria
Butthole Surfers - Who Was In My Room Last Night?
Nirvana - Serve The Servants (For one of the best opening lines in history) |

05.30.13 | "Sympathy for the Devil" is another great Stones opener. Also, "I Am Trying to Break Your Heart" by Wilco and "Needle in the Hay" by Elliott Smith. |
jefflebowski
05.31.13 | hell, pretty much every wilco album has a great opener actually, especially misunderstood, art of almost and can't stand it |
NordicMindset
05.31.13 | alice in chains - them bones
radiohead - airbag
ratm - bombtrack
tool - stinkfist
pixies - debaser |
