My Updated Favorite Albums... No Order
I just looked at my old list and thought it needed a makeover. |
| 1 | | Jimi Hendrix Band of Gypsys
Jimi is probably my all time favorite musician. He's the one who got me into real music and this is some of his best stuff. |
| 2 | | Nevermore Dreaming Neon Black
Dark, mechanical (yet organic?), and horrifyingly passionate. You can feel the insanity in this album. Also tied to a particularly dark period in my life. |
| 3 | | Michael Hedges Aerial Boundaries
Solo acoustic music was the genre I became obsessed with after metal and this album is magic. Michael Hedges becomes one with his guitar on this album. |
| 4 | | Summoning Oath Bound
The arrangements are brilliant here. Summonings use of dynamics are unsurpassed in this album. Amazing melodies. Land of the Dead is one of the best songs ever. |
| 5 | | Opeth Blackwater Park
This is interchangeable with Morningrise and Still Life. My first Opeth album. I became obsessed after hearing this. |
| 6 | | DJ Shadow Endtroducing
I never thought I'd get into anything even remotely close to Hiphop. DJ Shadow proves that sampling can be beautiful. Original and captivating. |
| 7 | | Immortal At the Heart of Winter
Raw, yet not underproduced. The riffing and drumming on this album are godly. Epic yet thrashy. |
| 8 | | Iron Maiden Somewhere In Time
I've never been able to match the futuristic atmosphere that this album creates. Some of Maiden's best songs on here. |
| 9 | | Billy Cobham Spectrum
Jazz fusion at its finest. Funky as hell. |
| 10 | | Nile Annihilation of the Wicked
Death metal done right. Epic, brutal, and brilliant. I don't think they have ever matched this album. |
