04.28.13 | in before american football. i have their album and it's not bad but i can't so much get into it. i also have stuff like snowing but find they're more on the upbeat side that i'm not so much looking for. penfold are good, i probably should have included "i'll take you everywhere". but generally prefer higher vocals. |
Trebor.
04.28.13 | Purplene - Purplene
CSTVT - Summer Fences
Joie De Vivre - We're All Better Than This
Tiny Moving Parts - This Couch Is Long & Full of Friendship (more upbeat but yeah)
Deer Leap/The World Is... - Are Here To Help You |
demigod!
04.28.13 | Christie Front Drive - Anthology
Braid - The Age of Octeen
Boys Life - Departures and Landfalls (i think youd really dig this one since youre into post rock; it kinda has that loose, soundscape-ish feel to it)
Julia - Julia |

04.28.13 | My only recommendation is: Don't. |
kitsch
04.28.13 | Purplene
Rockets and blue lights
Texas is the reason |
auberginedreams
04.28.13 | all of trebor's recs are good but i kind of prefer cstvt's first album. |
auberginedreams
04.28.13 | wait that is their first album sorry i'm retarded, carry on. |

04.28.13 | On The Might of Princes and Samiam are also good, but they might not be what you're looking for. check em anyways |

04.28.13 | Get on more 90's emo bands:
Elliott-False Cathedrals
Texas Is The Reason- Do You Know Who You Are?
Imbroco- Are You My Lionkiller?
Rainer Maria- Atlantic
Jimmy Eat World- earlier albums (Static Prevails and Clarity are the only emo albums of that band)
Benton Falls- Fighting Starlight
Pohgoh- All Along
God's Reflex- Scenes From A Motel Seduction
The Van Pelt- Sultans Of Sentiment
Evergreen- These Last Days
Black Top Cadence-
The Jazz June- They Love Those Who Make The Music
And everyone who wants to know emo in its indie form just has to dig through Deep Elm's back catalogue.

Those were the bands that would get to hear "hey, you guys play emo music" and they would be like "is that what they call it?". |
bakkermaarten007
04.28.13 | Honestly Jimmy Eat World were just a straight up punk band in the beginning and then Christie Front Drive came to their town and they took great influence out of their sound and before you know it they were playing some highly influential emo music (before they turned pop/alt rock) |

04.28.13 | ive never listened to jimmy eat world honestly, whats their best (read: most emo) album? |
bakkermaarten007
04.28.13 | Clarity I have to say, but it also walks the line between the poppier music and the real emo. Static Prevails have some of their best straight up emo song but the mixed vocals (some songs are sung by Tom Linto instead of Jim Adkins) weren't pushing the records cohesiveness. |

04.28.13 | The World is A beautiful place and I am no longer afraid to die - Formlessness

04.28.13 | thanks for all the recs people. will take a while to get through it but liking what im hearing. cstvt, on the might of princes, purplene, boys life all sound good.
and yeah about jimmy eat world. they've my favourite band of all time. his voice during the static-era is the absolute perfection of 90s emo vocals (maybe rivalled by jeremy enigk when he really lets loose). seasonal is probably the best emo song ive ever heard. in the same room, world is static and anderson mesa are also incredible. if you take all the songs where jim sings from static prevails, singles and static prevails demos, you get a monster collection of the best 90s emo around. its just such a shame that they left off some amazing emo songs from static prevails and instead had a bunch of (imo) boring songs in which tom sings. but seriously fans of emo should check out jimmy eat world's "singles" collection, as well as that song ive put as #1 |

04.28.13 | boys life are so underrated man
and ill check Clarity sometime soon, thanks |

04.28.13 | if anyone is interested, i made a "fantasy" jimmy eat world album that has all their best emo songs in one place. basically these are all the songs you should check out. this is my track listing for it:
1. h model
2. call it in the air
3. claire
4. seasonal
5. untitled
6. digits (demo version)
7. what i would say to you now
8. speed read
9. in the same room
10. world is static
11. thinking, that's all
12. ramina
13. you're on and off (digits ending)
14. anderson mesa |
Trebor.
04.28.13 | hmm I'll be sure to check out those Static Prevails demos |

04.28.13 | i honestly think if jimmy eat world had released my fantasy album (which i call seasonal) instead of static prevails -- and they could have cause all the songs were there -- then it would have gone down as one of the best emo albums of all time. |

If that would've been the actual album, Static Prevails would be up there with Mineral's albums, SDRE,... now its average scores give a misleading interpretation of some killer songs it contains. |

04.28.13 | check the youtube link for #1 trebor. and the singles collection contains most of the demos/leftovers from clarity, along with some other tom songs. |

04.28.13 | never got the love for Mineral tbh, i can rarely make it through a full album with those guys. their production is often so suffocating and their singer is just bad (and not good bad like jeremy enigk, just straining and obnoxious bad like the dude from empire empire) |
minty901
04.28.13 | *leftovers from static, sorry, not clarity |
minty901
04.28.13 | @demigod i love the straining, off-key vocals. empire empire singer is one of the best around imo. especially when he really belts it out like in #2! |

04.28.13 | Chris's vocals are fine imo. Same with Keith's. |

Try singing in such a manner like Chris Simpson =), the guy has a really great voice. But I can understand some people can't stand it, it's not really subtle. His voice clicked for me when I was in a very bad mood with Mineral playing without knowing (shuffle). |

04.28.13 | Mineral has clicked for me ever since I heard Gloria. |
