04.26.13 | But I would play piano if I were to pick up an instrument. |
Killerhit
04.26.13 | ffs |
bloc
04.26.13 | I don't listen for a specific instrument, but to play my favourites are guitar and drums. |
toxin.
04.26.13 | piano > |
climactic
04.26.13 | to play: drums
sound-wise probably cello, its awesome |
thumbcrusher
04.26.13 | i play guitar and love it, but i would also like to be able to do piano |
heyadam
04.26.13 | Guzheng, the Chinese Koto-esque instrument. So dope. I also really love piano, I just started learning |
EaglesBecomeVultures
04.26.13 | really love the organ, violin, and cello |
Calc
04.26.13 | if i could be a master with one instrument it'd be piano def. |
Killerhit

04.26.13 | I love playing drums. soundwise it would be piano, cello, or violin. |
DrMaximus
04.26.13 | Well, I play guitar, bass, and alto sax, so I'd say those are my favourites |
ReturnToRock
04.26.13 | Bass, obviously, but the main item on my bucket list is to learn the drums. It looks SO fun. |
CaptainHadouken
04.26.13 | It is. Just took awhile to un-synch my hands and feet for playing. It can be challenging but it is ridiculous fun. |
ReturnToRock
04.26.13 | I fooled around with drumming, but only the hand bit, as my coordination skills suck balls.
Also, I'm quite fond of Tre Cool's drumming (Green Day), as well as any Mastodon, any The Who, and anything by Adrian Erlandsson (At The Gates, Cradle Of Filth). Those are probably my favourite drummers. |
Mike08
04.26.13 | heyadam: I've never heard of the Guzheng. A youtube clip pulled up Jasmine Flower. It can be a bit high pitched at times. Any album recs with this instrument? |
ReturnToRock
04.26.13 | Oh, I'd also love to play the berimbau and the musical Tesla coil (seriously, look them up on Youtube, they're awesome). |
CaptainHadouken
04.26.13 | I am a neil pert, Mike portnoy, and jimmy chamberlain fan for drums, mastodon's drummer is also pretty beast, Adrian also is pretty decent. |
EvoHavok
04.26.13 | Electric guitar and piano. |
ReturnToRock
04.26.13 | LOL most stereotypical drummer selection ever (in a good way, just EVERYBODY who plays drums mentions those guys. It's like saying 'Steve Harris' for bass, or 'Jimi Hendrix' for guitar.) |
RinaKettysamour
04.26.13 | viola |
Mike08
04.26.13 | If there is a unique instrument that is great, post the album. I want to hear an album with the guzheng, berimbau, and tesla coil. |
peaks40
04.26.13 | i noticed the drums first thing on 3 man. nice list. i can't pick a fav instrument. too hard. |
CaptainHadouken
04.26.13 | Maybe, but he's good, and sorry to say, but the stereotypical picks would be John bonham, Lars Ulrich, and ringo starr and keith moon. THOSE are stereotype. My selections are less stereotypical, |
Animus
04.26.13 | Trombone and cello. |
ChuckyTruant
04.26.13 | I play and love guitar, though I think sax and piano are the coolest |
ReturnToRock
04.26.13 | IDK, I agree with people picking Lars all the time (WHY???), but I always hear Neil Peart, Portnoy, and maybe Bonzo or Moon. Ringo I've never ever heard (then again, why?) |
ChuckyTruant
04.26.13 | pedro you suck so hard |
ReturnToRock
04.26.13 | The Tesla coils are not instruments per se, they conduct electricity, but they distort the sound of a guitar or keyboard in awesome fashion. See:

Berimbau:

CaptainHadouken
04.26.13 | Well you will hear Pert a lot because yes he is a bit overhyped at time, but he has the skill to back it up as portnoy does. Dave Grohl, Dave lombardo, Jimmy chamberlain, Geezer bulter, there is a long list of drummers that could be named off and by labeled stereotypical. |
ChuckyTruant
04.26.13 | the hang drum is cool too |
Mike08
04.26.13 | Thank You ReturntoRock, will be giving those a listen! |
ReturnToRock
04.26.13 | Dave Lombardo I also agree is very stereotypical. Dave Grohl I never ever got the worship over (prefer Chad Channing or Dale Crover).
I'm not saying it's bad to select those guys, just that it's common among drummers. Must be a reason for it. |
Lelle
04.26.13 | piano, because I play it lol |
Mike08
04.26.13 | As much as I love drums, hearing a beginner play is painful. I had to paint a huge fence and inside the house the son was practicing on drums. God he sucked. |
LegendofPittman
04.26.13 | I play guitar, but I personally like piano and drums more. It's probably just because guitar is very easy to make cheesy. |
ReturnToRock
04.26.13 | Haha I had an entire BAND that sucked playing in my apartment building's garages for a while. They were kind of a prog band, in the sense that everybody went their own way and played exactly what they pleased. As a result the songs had no structure and were cacophonous as hell. Only good bit was they had a didgeridoo.
Also, the other day I went to Taekwon-do class and in the room across the hall they were having a student concert thingy, and I heard officially the WORST singer I have ever heard. He was a kid, but he was inexcusably bad. The way he butchered I Love Rock'n'Roll was physically painful. He didn't even do well in Song #2, and that's not hard to sing at all. He shattered the previous record, belonging to some old dude from a cover band I heard once covering Green Day's Holiday in completely tone deaf fashion. This kid was worse. Painful. |
ReturnToRock
04.26.13 | Actually the worst singer I ever heard was my neighbour back home, but he never took to the stage (fortunately), so I'm not counting him. |

04.26.13 | The oboe or bassoon... I can never decide. |
heyadam
04.26.13 | Also, I really love the Cello and would love to try and pick it up at some point in my life. |
Keyblade
04.26.13 | if this was 4 years ago i would've said guitar. but now i lean more towards drums and bass...and keyboards if any |

04.26.13 | def drums. i love electronic music and what not but it can never touch the majesty of some beefy real drummin |

04.26.13 | Trombone nigs |
YoYoMancuso
07.14.13 | agreed with Mike08. If an album has non-engaging drumming it's more difficult for me to connect with. That may explain why Siamese Dream is my fav album, Jimmy makes those drums sing. |
InbredJed
07.14.13 | marimba |
Mongi123
07.14.13 | I'm always a fan of strings and guitar in the same song. |
InbredJed
07.14.13 | you must love Matt Good, eh Mongi123? |
ChuckyTruant
07.14.13 | Guitar. I probably play for ~2-3 hours a day. I am also a huge guitar buff and gear nerd. When on the interwebs I am here and on SevenString.org |
Mongi123
07.14.13 | @InbredJed Nah doesn't sound like someone I would like judging by the kind of music he plays haha some
examples would be 23 by Jimmy Eat World and .3 by Porcupine Tree. I listen for everything in a song,
but the strings and guitars always stand out to me |

07.14.13 | tenor sax
