| 2013 So Far For Me
Heard some pretty good stuff so far, but I have yet to really dive into it,
and i'd appreciate any recs. I don't particularly care what genre it is, so
long as it was released this year | 1 | | Wormed Exodromos
Probably my favorite album so far this year. The riffs go hard, and the vocals are
godly. I know many will disagree with this, but this is a unique band, and this album
blends a lot of my favorable qualities in music. | 2 | | Darkthrone The Underground Resistance
Before the Wormed album, this was going to be my most favorite, but it still comes
close. This has probably got to be my most favorite modern DT album. It has a real
"classic" heavy metal vibe to it, and the vocals are to die for. | 3 | | Abyssal Novit Enim Dominus Qui Sunt Eius
I know this one isn't favored too much on sputnik, but I for one enjoy the relaxing
nature of this album. It's really simple, really straight forward, really accessible. It's
essentially an easy listening blackened death album. | 4 | | Voivod Target Earth
One of my first 2013 albums, it took quite some time to grow on me. I know this
isn't the best the band can do, and I havn't really looked at their earlier stuff (will
definitely get to that soon) so as far as understanding the band's evolution goes, I
can't really get the real Voivod experience yet. So as far as i'm concerned, this is
just an album that sounds really solid, though it will take time to grow on people. | 5 | | Aether Realm One Chosen By The Gods
An excellent viking metal album, with quite a few folk influences tossed into this
heavy mix. Again, really easy listening, good for just about time of the day. | 6 | | Holy Grail Ride the Void
A cross between Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, Ride the Void is a beautiful
reincarnation of the classic heavy metal genre, marred only by soggy guitars, and
(at times) dull vocals. | 7 | | Suffocation Pinnacle of Bedlam
After hearing the first single off this, I really did expect this one to blow. But I was
pleasantly surprised after hearing the full album stream to see just how well this
album flows, and exciting it can actually get at times. The vocals are a shadow of
their former glory though, and drums are way overproduced (like most death metal
these days), but this still earns its place in the top 10 thus far. | 8 | | Bisento Hinterlands
Pretty surreal doom metal outfit. Their first album is an impressionable one, with
outstanding production, but musicianship that gets a bit repetitive, and the vocals
could be better. | 9 | | Soilwork The Living Infinite
A double album, this band makes quite a solid, and tall standing album that could
reach out to many fans of the melo death genre. In my personal opinion, the
second half goes a lot more in depth in terms of musicianship, and it easily the
better side of this coin. The first half was decent, but the clean sections got really
old really quick. | 10 | | Universe217 Never
A female fronted doom band, they did just about everything right here, and it was
an enjoyable the first time. It may be that I need more exposure to this album, but
my main problem with it is that it lacks anything truly memorable. The album
basically goes in one ear and out the other. | |
