2013 In Metal

Decent to great metal/hardcore material so far released in 2013.
1 Paysage d'Hiver
Das Tor

4.5/5 - I love winter and I love this artist. Objectively, this release is far from his
best, but its great nonetheless. There are no standouts here. Its consistently flawless.
2The Fall of Every Season
Amends

4/5 - I'm a sucker for melancholia that this stuff delivers. Was walking through
snowy forest with this on my large headphones - fabulous feelings.
Standout track - Aurelia.
3Darkthrone
The Underground Resistance

4/5 - I liked it more than it is actually worth. Regarding the crust elements, I find
this band more enjoyable with them than without.
Standout track - Leave No Cross Unturned.
4Omnium Gatherum
Beyond

4/5 - Better than anything they have done so far imo. Really solid melo-death.
Standout track - The Unknowing.
5Nails
Abandon All Life

4/5 - They are getting more and more brutal with each release without loosing any
coherency. Keep calm and abandon all life.
Standout track - Suum Cuique.
6Voivod
Target Earth

4/5 - Voivod returning to form after a series of average/bad albums.
Standout track - Target earth.
7Mors Principium Est
...And Death Said Live

4/5 - Has some nice variation previously unheard from this band. Good stuff.
Standout track - Departure.
8Hate
Solarflesh

3.5/5 - Solid blackened death metal release. Reminds me of behemoth.
Standout track - Solarflesh.
9Rorcal
Vilagvege

3.5/5 - My first experience with this band. Rather peculiar mix of genres I must add.
Standout track - VIII.
10In Vain
AEnigma

3.5/5 - I can fully enjoy this only after soaking some alcohol and then its hell of a
blast. Standout track - Against the grain.
11Kvelertak
Meir

3.5/5 - I was jamming this at my office and the results of my trainee increased by
200%. Standout track - Bruane brenn.
12Cult Of Luna
Vertikal

3.5/5 - Solid post-metal from everyone's favorite post-metal band.
Standout track - In awe of.
13Rotting Christ
Kata Ton Daimona Eaytoy

3.5/5 - Apart from this album I haven't really tried anything from these guys. Great
riffing, great chanting, great everything. Standout track - In Yumen / Xibalba.
14Hanging Garden
At Every Door

3.5/5 - They should completely ditch the post-metal sound and stick with the doom.
Standout track - At every door.
15Iron Lung
White Glove Test

3.5/5 - Great pw release. Doesn't quite match the quality of its predecessor thou.
Could pick any standouts here, its same as with #1.
16Shai Hulud
Reach Beyond the Sun

3.5/5 - Tasteful progressive hardcore, but in my opinion nowhere near as good as
its praised. Standout track - A human failing.
17Within The Ruins
Elite

3.5/5 - Album has incredible amounts of fun and win. Jamming ataxia II in a car on
max volume never gets old. Standout track - Ataxia II.
18Call Of The Void
Dragged Down A Dead End Path

3.5/5 - A pretty interesting crust/grind/pw release. Standout track - Theory of Mind.
19Soilwork
The Living Infinite

3.5/5 - Surprisingly good release from Soilwork, and I haven't enjoyed anything from
them previously. Standout track - Momentary bliss.
20Rotten Sound
Species at War

3/5 - Definitely not as good as their full lengths, but worth a spin anyway.
Standout track - The Solution.
21Neaera
Ours Is The Storm

3/5 - Melo-death band with some "core" influences. If you are familiar with the
sound of "Heaven shall burn", then give this a listen.
Standout track - Ours is the storm.
22Bring Me The Horizon
Sempiternal

3/5 - Sempiternal had a shock effect on me when I first heard it. It seemed so
different and surprisingly enjoyable. Unfortunately, after a few spins it had
considerably worn out. Its not a bad release by no means and is worth checking
out, especially for those who had doubted the bands ability to write decent
material. Standout track - Hospital for souls.
23 Boris
Praparat

3/5 - Great album for winter and it looks like winter aint gonna leave Europe so soon.
Standout track - Elegy.
24Suffocation
Pinnacle Of Bedlam

3/5 - Album was over-hyped as fuck when it came out. Its decent, but nothing
spectacular. I had to add it a +0.2 rating, because my cat runs around like
possessed when I jam this. Standout track - As grace descends.
25Stratovarius
Nemesis

3/5 - I'm totally not a fan of the genre, but this release has some fun songs.
Standout track - Halcyon days.
