JamieTwort
03.24.13 | It's up. 12 was supposed to say "probably his best STUDIO album". I won't edit cos artwork. |
pissbore
03.24.13 | how does 5 compare to the debut? |
Havey
03.24.13 | lotsa blues sweet. don't think i've ever seen that nihilist demo before, s'it rare?
5 m/ |
Atari
03.24.13 | Nice I like strawbs and unholy but haven't heard those albums. Will check |
Havey
03.24.13 | nvm i've heard the songs on it already, they're on the 1987-1989 comp ah |
JamieTwort
03.24.13 | @piss: It's different. It's a lot more atmospheric than their debut and not as heavy. The debut prob has the edge but 5 rules regardless. |
JamieTwort
03.24.13 | @Atari: that Strawbs album features an incredible piano solo from Rick Wakeman. It's worth hearing for that alone. |
mindleviticus
03.24.13 | EVERYBODY LISTEN TO 3 |
JamieTwort
03.24.13 | Hard |
JamieTwort
03.24.13 | Havey check out 7 if you haven't heard it, you'd dig. |

03.24.13 | looks kool but i think i'm gonna start with 2 |
JamieTwort
03.24.13 | Sweet. |
Havey
03.24.13 | that album at the top of the user reviews section is looking mighty interesting, you don't happen to have heard it by any chance? |
KILL
03.24.13 | god dammit jamie slow down bro im still jammin elastic rock
|
xVision
03.24.13 | kill still exists? damn |
Havey
03.24.13 | what makes you think that xvision |
JamieTwort
03.24.13 | @Havey: No I haven't but it looks sweet.
@KILL: lol I have slowed down a bit since the first couple of lists. Good to hear you're jamming Nucleus, band rules hard. |
manosg
03.24.13 | Great list Jamie. 12 is awesome and 5 is pretty good even though I'm not a major fan of Hooker's sound. I will definitely check some of your recs. |
SgtPepper
03.24.13 | @Havey
Yeah, that's a good album. He was the original bassist for jazz group called The Weather Report. He's such an incredible musician, an dit also features a lot of famous jazzers like John McLaughlin (Mahavishnu Orchestra) and pianist Herbie Hancock |
JamieTwort
03.24.13 | Yeah that Vitous album has some great musicians on it. His following album, Purple, is great too and features Billy Cobham
on drums. |
JamieTwort
03.24.13 | Also thanks for the feature Paperback (I'm assuming it was you). |
Havey
03.24.13 | had me sold at mclaughlin |
SgtPepper
03.24.13 | @Jamie
Yeah, no problem.
@Havey

JamieTwort
03.24.13 | McLaughlin is god. |
JamieTwort
03.25.13 | "Great list Jamie. 12 is awesome and 5 is pretty good even though I'm not a major fan of Hooker's sound. I will definitely check some of your recs."
Sorry, missed this comment. Thanks man. Hooker's style isn't for everyone but I really like it, especially on 5 where he performs with Canned Heat as his backing band. Definitely check out 11 if you haven't heard it. |
RadicalEd
03.25.13 | dayum Jamie. Ur taste is eclectic. |
JamieTwort
03.25.13 | Thanks. |
StallionMang
03.25.13 | 2's cover looks a lot like Disco Volante by Mr. Bungle. I wonder if that was on purpose, as Bungle is heavily influenced by avant-jazz. |
JamieTwort
03.25.13 | Possibly. |
RadicalEd
03.25.13 | Hm. Should I check 12? |
JamieTwort
03.25.13 | Definitely. 12 is essential for anyone at all interested in blues or even electric guitar playing in general. |
JamieTwort
03.25.13 | The live album Irish Tour '74 is his best album imo but 12 is an equally good starting point. |
RadicalEd
03.25.13 | Alright. I trust you on this one, since your digs are mostly awesome. |
JamieTwort
03.25.13 | Sweet, hope you dig it. |
Atari
03.25.13 | loving the strawbs album. These lists are like the best thing on sputnik |
JamieTwort
03.25.13 | I'm glad people are finding these lists useful. |
omnipanzer
03.25.13 | You might like the new Strokes JT. |
ReturnToRock
03.25.13 | Is 6 the Possessed/early Death kind of death metal, or the Cannibal Corpse kind of death metal? |
Atari
03.25.13 | lol RTR you say that like there's only 2 different types of death metal ;) |
coneren
03.25.13 | yeah there are 3 |
ReturnToRock
03.25.13 | I know there aren't, but I'm just trying to work out if it's the type I like (semi-thrashy, technical, mid-tempo, old-school) or the type I don't like (br00tal, growled vox, blastbeats). |
coneren
03.25.13 | you will like 6 then |
Atari
03.25.13 | it's probably the kind you like but i haven't heard it yet |
ReturnToRock
03.25.13 | Cool, I'll give them a listen eventually. I love Leprosy by Death and Seven Churches by Possessed. |
coneren
03.25.13 | yeah youre fine then |
YankeeDudel
03.25.13 | it sounds like fuckin entombed because it was entombed before entombed |
Atari
03.25.13 | oh i guess nihilist is basically the band that became entombed per the band description. |
Atari
03.25.13 | damn you yankee lol |
JamieTwort
03.25.13 | @R2R: Any death metal I put on these lists will most likely be to your taste as I much prefer the more old school thrashy stuff too. I can definitely see you digging 6, it riffs hard. |
RadicalEd
03.25.13 | So i listened to the rory gallagher album once.
insta 4.5. How did I not now about this guy. Sublime songwriting, great voice, fantastic guitar
player, no filler track.
Thanks for this list |
Atari
03.25.13 | listening to 6 right now and yeah it's great too bad it's only 15 minutes |
JamieTwort
03.25.13 | "You might like the new Strokes JT. "
Cool, I'll check it, thanks.
@Captain: You'd probably dig most of the stuff on here bro. |
omnipanzer
03.25.13 | Now you must listen to Ireland 74' RadicalEd. |
RadicalEd
03.25.13 | Will do. But i have to give this a few more spins. And then check out bonobo. To much music to listen
to... first world problems. |
JamieTwort
03.25.13 | "So i listened to the rory gallagher album once. insta 4.5. How did I not now about this guy. Sublime songwriting, great voice, fantastic guitar player, no filler track. Thanks for this list"
Glad you liked it bro.
"listening to 6 right now and yeah it's great too bad it's only 15 minutes"
Get Nihilist's 1987 - 1989 comp, it's got all their demos on it. All of them are good but Drowned is definitely the best imo. |
Atari
03.25.13 | will do. i think i like that demo better than entombed |
JamieTwort
03.25.13 | Yeah I think I do too. |
JamieTwort
03.25.13 | No probelm bro, I enjoy making these lists. |
RadicalEd
03.25.13 | sinner boy is so good omg. I love when he just sings his own guitar solo. |
JamieTwort
03.25.13 | Yeah that song rocks. I think my favourite is probably I Fall Apart, love the first solo in that song. |
RadicalEd
03.25.13 | I fall apart is the best song easily, yes. Solo has so much energy. |
JamieTwort
03.25.13 | So much emotion too. |
RadicalEd
03.25.13 | yeah. song is an instant classic. Man I am really in love with this album right now. |
omnipanzer
03.25.13 | Always good to see someone go through the emotions when listening to Rory for the first time. ;-) |
ReturnToRock
03.25.13 | Oh, THAT Nihilist! Yeah I like them. |
Titan
03.25.13 | Jamie where do you find all this stuff? |
JamieTwort
03.26.13 | Mainly from online sources like Rate Your Music. Progarchives etc. Bassically I have an addiction to looking for new (to me) music. |
RadicalEd
03.26.13 | How good is 11 compared to 12?
I would check it out on yt. But germany basically banned all music from YT, so I can't |
JamieTwort
03.26.13 | It's not quite as good but still well worth checking out. Kossoff is, along with Gallagher, one of my favourite blues/blues rock guitarists. The album is predominanely instrumental with only 2 of the 5 tracks featuring vocals, so it's quite different from 12 in that respect. |
RadicalEd
03.26.13 | well i don't mind instrumental guitar music at all. So this one goes on the list. |
JamieTwort
03.26.13 | Cool. Kossoff was the original guitarist in the band Free incase you didn't know. |
RadicalEd
03.26.13 | really? I did not know that. I know Free though. I like 'em, but not thaaat much. Although if i remember correctly, I liked mostly the guitar. |
JamieTwort
03.26.13 | Free's first 3 albums (the ones with Kossoff) are all excellent imo. Kossoff's guitar playing is a big part of why I like them so much. |
ButteryBiscuitBass
03.26.13 | Because JT is a bluesy mother fucker. |
JamieTwort
03.26.13 | I am indeed. |
TheNotrap
03.27.13 | Nice list JT, congrats for the featured. |
JamieTwort
03.27.13 | Thanks Notrap. |
JamieTwort
03.27.13 | Probably 1, 9 and 12.
1 is streaming on bandcamp: http://moonjunerecords.bandcamp.com/album/patahan |
JamieTwort
03.27.13 | No probelm bro, hope you dig 'em. |
Jethro42
04.03.13 | Miroslav Vitous tells me something. Is it related to Weather Report or something?
Also, interested in 9, 11 and 12.
Major props for 10. |
JamieTwort
04.03.13 | Yeah Vitous was in Weather Report, he's also played with a number of other jazz/fusion artists including Chick Corea and Larry Coryell. I can definitely see you digging those other 3 you mentioned. |
Jethro42
04.03.13 | Keep on P/ mate |
