03.07.13 | Listen to the classics, Close to the Edge Thick as a Brick, Foxtrot; they are all easy to find.
Prog Metal is prog but metal, experimental metal does stuff outside the realms of normal metal but does not have to be prog, avant-garde is a broad term for extremely experimental and weird art |
Keyblade

03.09.13 | Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. So far, I've listened to In the Court of The Crimson King and Aqualung. Both are between 4 and 4.5 for me right now. Great albums. I would have given In the Court of the Crimson King a 5 if it weren't for "Moonchild." That song does not come close to justifying its length. |

04.21.14 | At this point, you're already into prog. If you're asking the difference between the genres, here is my rundown: PROG - Much longer songs, still very oriented to rock, cool lyrics, spacey or just flat out amazing production, symphonic touches, MELLOTRON!!!! EXPERIMENTAL - Usually involves electronics, crazy and weird AVANTGARDE - No rules. Flat out insanity. |
impropera
04.21.14 | Are Mr. Bungle really prog? |
ChoccyPhilly
04.21.14 | Start off with Fear Of A Blank planet or Deadwing with porcupine tree. They're slightly less straight forward as In Absentia and also have much heavier moments.
If you want to get into Avant-garde prog, try one of Unexpect's albums. Insanity ^ couldn't describe it any better but they're also incredibly fun |

Not even a little. Neither are Faith No More.
Yes - Fragle [2]
Pink Floyd - Animals
Camel - Mirage [2] |
