03.05.13 | Coheed and Cambria, greatt songwriting/story telling, excellent musicianship and just a generally unique sounding band in my opinion who have remained fairly consistent throughout their career, plus nostalgia |
bach
03.05.13 | Sunny Day Real Estate. I wouldn't be here and i wouldn't like (or even know of) half of what i listen to now. |
SAPoodle
03.05.13 | Converge. I got into them at a really tough time in my life and at that stage I was into these terrible -core bands like BMTH and Asking Alexandria. It took me a while, and I started getting big into Axe to Fall, but when I broke up with my gf and listened to Jane Doe that night everything changed. So Converge became (and still are) my favourite band. |
Vakarian12
03.05.13 | Opeth. Because Opeth |
SuicidalPrincess
03.05.13 | Linkin park because they got me into loud music =3 |

03.05.13 | ah Coheed. great band indeed. I'd probably say Thrice. their sound has matured in the same pace as my own personal tastes have, and I've followed them from their first album til their disbanding last year. |
omnipanzer
03.05.13 | David Bowie
He puts so much of his reality into his music and with the exception of a few stumbling blocks he remains an original and brilliant. |
omnipanzer
03.05.13 | I love that he pretty much wears his heart on his sleeve. |
aidanwm
03.05.13 | modest mouse too the lonesome crowded west changed my life a lot of their stuff is awful though |
DeadToPain
03.05.13 | Mine changes every so often. My first favorite was Nine Inch Nails just because it was amazing as a 12-13 year old kid who hated and questioned everything in small town America. I'd say these days it's a mix of the Afghan Whigs (and other Dulli projects), Fugazi, and Converge. Simply because I can't pick just one. |
osmark86
03.05.13 | David Bowie is a great entry to this list. |

03.05.13 | How do I pick between Death, Pink Floyd, Immolation, Godspeed You!Black Emperor, mewithoutYou, Opeth, and Miles Davis? Each have superb discographies, and yet so different in genres.... Like movies, I don't have a favorite, just favorites. |
dathvada321
03.05.13 | underoath. they are the band that got me into heavy music and i still love their stuff to this day. |
ITsHxCTOASTER
03.05.13 | Godspeed You! Black Emperor or Boards of Canada, both have amazing soundscapes that are unlike anything else I listen to |
NapalmCrusader
03.05.13 | I've to pick between nine inch nails, megadeth, led zeppelin and dream theater. They touch me in a lot of ways. |
Gowhenred
03.05.13 | It's between Brand New and letlive. I'd most likely say Brand New, mainly because The Devil and God has made me cry more than a few times, and that isn't easy to do. |
osmark86
03.05.13 | that album is near worship status on here. I'm missing something I guess, because I think it's good at best. |

03.05.13 | Can't pick one nowadays. My top 3 are Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tool and The National.
With RHCP I was always drawn to their music because of how they were being themselves and getting rewarded for it. The band that got me into music.
Tool - Discovered them at the perfect possible time. A time I was really maturing and growing as a person. They opened my mind and expanded my world. Loved their lyrics, helped me towards finding myself and individuating. I am a better person because of Tool.
The National - I stumbled upon them during a pretty period of my time. They were like nothing I had heard before and was drawn to the melancholy in their music. |
JackSoffalot
03.05.13 | The Dillinger Escape Plan because fuck you. |
Chortles
03.05.13 | talking heads because fuck |
ILJ
03.05.13 | Between the Buried and Me because well I like them and they were really the first band I started to enjoy that went outside of generic metalcore for the first time in years. They ultimately helped me open my tastes a bit, so basically anything I listen to today that isn't genericcore I can attribute to them, even if loosely.
The Dear Hunter. I actually found out about them from an article I read on Dan Briggs. I downloaded the Color Spectrum like immediately after reading the article and I loved it within the first minute. But I jammed them a lot during that summer, which is the same summer I started dating my current girlfriend and I actually started being happy. It was also the last summer before coming to college, so basically I listened to them a lot during a really important transition period in my life: from a depressed high school kid to a reasonably well adjusted happy college-going adult.
Those are the undisputed top two, the rest of the top five are GY!BE because their music is sublime, Brand New because well they're Brand New, and Death Grips because I just like them a lot, no real specific reason there, I just jam them all the time. |
SupercolliderMusic
03.05.13 | Nine Inch Nails. Because, Trent Reznor is a fucking genius that could do it all. And can do it better than almost anyone else. His lyrics are amazing, his vocals are amazing, the music that he produces/plays is amazing. I don't know what he is missing... |
Mookid
03.05.13 | I second Nine Inch Nails mainly for the emotion and his "brutal" ways
I lean towards The Bloodhound Gang, though, mostly for how fun they are. They make incredibly catchy music that always seems to uplift me on the crappiest days
yeah. |
demigod!
03.05.13 | dude fucking right Modest Mouse is one of my all time favourite bands.
however #1 goes to Converge for consistency, relevance to the music scene and for being groundbreaking. also because Jane Doe is my fav album ever. |
ViralOblivion
03.05.13 | Hmm I couldn't decide but top 3 are converge, Rwake and Neurosis |
Mookid
03.05.13 | The Downward Spiral is my favorite album all time
'Hurt' for the emotion, 'March of the Pigs', 'Heresy' and 'Reptile' for the angry, fun ways, and 'Piggy' for the mellowness; essentially, I'm saying the album has it all. |
KotoFtw
03.05.13 | As Cities Burn, they transitioned me from listening to myspace metalcore bands to trying new styles and sounds. And I still think Come Now Sleep is the best album ever. |
manosg
03.05.13 | Deep Purple have been with me for all my life. |
YoYoMancuso
03.05.13 | Modest Mouse is climbing up my list, The Moon & Antarctica is stupidly good.

12.15.13 | Blue October; they have taught me to love life and enjoy the little things. Their song Jump Rope has taught me to push through the hard times and lead the way. Their song Fear has taught me to fight my fears and to get back up. Finally they've taught me that life isn't perfect, but things will get better. |

12.27.13 | For me it's a draw between X-Japan and Shiina Ringo.
Shiina was the first artist to put me to tears just by the sheer power of their voice, even without me understanding a word. Never has an artist felt so sincere and emotionally crushing for me yet her song writing is so varied and interesting, seemly effortlessly making every genre of music she decides to tackle her own. She always has a perfect song for the mood I'm in, whether it being vulnerable to feeling awesome to wanting something to relax to. She is one of the only 2 artists which I have all their LP's (the other being X-Japan), importing them was worth every penny.
X-Japan is to me the ultimate rock/metal band and everything they do feels larger than life. Whether if they are performing Rusty Nail at The Last Live making thousands wave glow sticks to the beat of the song, Toshi screaming his lungs out on I’ll Kill You, the guitar fade in on Alive in their early gigs or most noticeably Yoshiki delivering his transcendent Piano Solo in the Toyko Dome, every moment feels out of this world. Being deceptively varied, they go from sappy yet thoroughly unique and captivating ballads to arena rock anthems to blazing speed metal rockers in moments; with quality remaining at a very high level constant. Even through all the legendary rock/metal bands which everyone mentions from Led Zeppelin to Opeth, X-Japan still appears as mythical wonders which still to this day in my opinion remain unmatched. |
Solaire
12.27.13 | Opeth because they opened me up to not only the world of death metal, but also to many progressive bands like Porcupine Tree. |

12.28.13 | Real reason behind Thursday is it's the perfect mash-up of modern pop punx, post hardcore, and screamo, plus the evergrowing pool of outside influences they took on as they evolved, Geoff Rickly's unique as fuck voice, and incredibly catchy lyricism, and probably just their iconic status and influence within the scenes of music I've been most interested in since I was a kid. |
Solaire
12.29.13 | Bumping this because someone said not to a couple of days ago. |
