02.19.13 | And sputnik can't handle accents |
wabbit
02.19.13 | pluses: all the good bands play there, probs best weed you'll ever have, beautiful girls, awesome bars, AMAZING clubs
minuses- french people
I call it a washout |
anarchistfish
02.19.13 | I'm french so, sounds like win win |
demigod!
02.19.13 | yeah montreal is pretty sweet, as is canada as a whole. pretty much everything wabbit says i can get behind |
Buzzkillr
02.19.13 | Lived there for a few months. fucking amazing city, can't wait to go back. a lot of english speaking people there
are douches though, acting all entitled and condescending towards the french speaking population even though
they arrived after them
which university is it, concordia, mcgill? |
Kiran
02.19.13 | montreal is awesome |
anarchistfish
02.19.13 | that's funny, generally I hear the exact opposite^^ i.e. french speakers harassing the english speakers |
johnnyblaze
02.19.13 | i love montreal. it's easily the best city in Canada, if not north america.
housing is relatively cheap for a city, it's got a great music scene, really good food (i bring back about 30 baguettes and a couple pounds of cheese every time i go), and ya the weed, man, the weed is amazing. |
wabbit
02.19.13 | THAT'S A PRETTY INACCURATE ACCOUNT OF CANADIAN HISTORY MR. BUZZKILLr!!!!
|
anarchistfish
02.19.13 | "which university is it, concordia, mcgill?"
On my course it could be either |
Jethro42
02.19.13 | Montréal est une ville où il fait bon vivre. |
Wolfhorde
02.19.13 | It's probably both but who cares, idiots are gonna be idiots. If you have chances to "explore" other parts of the world why NOT go for it? I'm already getting hyped up thinking about the possibilities of foreign semesters. Plus Canada seems sweet so I'd say go for it. |
wabbit
02.19.13 | cause most of montreal was built by scots while the french sat around smoking cigarettes eating joe louises and drinking pepsi |
anarchistfish
02.19.13 | One of the main things which is making me hesitate is although it's pretty likely I'd get this, it's
not guaranteed. Could be a deal breaker. Although apparently most people don't apply cos you have to
do it pretty early on so I'd be in a strong position. And then I'd just have to reach the requirements
which I'm confident I can do. But still |
Wolfhorde
02.19.13 | Just try it. I mean I'm pretty sure you can apply for two universities at the same time, if both take you you can still decide. Where I come from people apply at least at 3, mostly more universities at once. If you have a chance in more than why not take try and take it?
also fucking lol Miles. |
someguest
02.19.13 | What if I told you it doesn't matter where you go to school, but who you know?
Yeah. |
Wolfhorde
02.19.13 | What if I told you that with a sword in your sphincter both things are completely irrelevant? |
someguest
02.19.13 | Can a German function without being angry and/or violent? |
Wolfhorde
02.19.13 | The postulation which implies a general claim of your proposed hypothesis is based on what empirical or collected data and evidence? Plus, I was making a point that what you said was completely irrelevant to this discussion. Learn rhetorical devices. Also, our rate of violent crimes within Europe is one of the lowest. Let's not even go to the scale of global comparison. |

I've already applied to both and both have given me offers with the same grade requirements so I have to pick one by May as my first choice |
anarchistfish
02.19.13 | Wait you cool university "school" in the US? |
someguest

Oh would you shut up. |
Wolfhorde
02.19.13 | "I've already applied to both and both have given me offers with the same grade requirements so I have to pick one by May as my first choice"
Well, that's already pretty good but yeah I'd say go for travelling if that's what you really want to go for. Don't go for something because it has prestige or because you think you should. Do what favors your skills and interests.
Also, from what I gathered both in Canada and the U.S. university is on some levels still considered "school". (probably also considering the 'earlier' entry with undergrad ect.) |
Black Ink
02.19.13 | Club Super Sexx. Thank me later. |
anarchistfish
02.19.13 | It's not simply the prestige or education. They're both extremely good universities so that part is almost irrelevant. But of the two cities the one which doesn't offer this is one I'd much rather live in it considering will take 3 years out of my life. |
Adash
02.19.13 | I recently took a train from Vancouver to Montreal. This is the right direction. Girls are hot and the Quebecois attempt at a French accent is hilarious
Don't ever go to Winnipeg |
Buzzkillr
02.20.13 | ^what do you mean "attempt at french accent"? they're not trying to imitate another accent, it's their own
and as a person who speaks non-quebecois french, I can say that I prefer the quebec accent over any other, especially the french accent (which sounds stuck-up) |
theacademy
02.20.13 | whatever as long as you stay out of america im fine |
theacademy
02.20.13 | also where are you getting all these awesome profile pics |
Funeralopolis
02.20.13 | montreal gets all the good concerts |
MO
02.20.13 | fuck yea the more people to come the better, Canada rules |
InfamousGrouse
02.20.13 | If you're going into that scene unprepared it'll be a bitch to adapt to the dialect regardless of your french background. I know a girl who went to a comedy roadshow there and understood about half of it due to differences in accent, colloquialisms etc. Do English universities offer grants for overseas study? Ours does but only in European countries. It costs about 4k a semester to go over to the US or Canada, not including flights and living expenses. Ain't nobody got time for that.
Also, bad luck in the game last night, Fish. Was a lot easier than I was expecting it to be. |
stereonpl11
02.20.13 | I'm french, my cousin moved to Montréal and after a while she naturally started speaking with the local accent. If you're french too don't worry about their accent, you'll get used to it very quickly. I've already spent couple of days in this city during a roadtrip in north america and I think it should be one of the best city in the world to live. |
wabbit
02.20.13 | I hate french people so much |
theacademy
02.20.13 | canadians >>>> french people so hard |
anarchistfish
02.20.13 | "whatever as long as you stay out of america im fine"
lol why would I ever go there
"also where are you getting all these awesome profile pics"
european women
although this one is half brazilian
"Also, bad luck in the game last night, Fish. Was a lot easier than I was expecting it to be."
considering bayern are one of the best two teams in the world right now all they had to do was play on par really |
stereonpl11
02.21.13 | "canadians >>>> french people so hard"
Ancestors of people from Québec are french, so... anyway do you really know anything about both countries and cultures..? |
Keyblade
02.21.13 | dam i might have to check out montreal when i come back to canada...sounds awesome.
also mcgill is a great uni from what i can remember...sounds like you'll be in for a good time regardless of your choice |
Eclecticist
02.21.13 | You have a chance to study in Montréal? DO IT |
JokineAugustus
02.21.13 | 4 is not necessarily true. People in Saskatchewan go nuts for their team. |
MO
02.21.13 | go to montreal, as someone who goes there quite frequently I can confirm the city rules, the people can be asshats but the majority are ok |
anarchistfish
02.21.13 | "4 is not necessarily true. People in Saskatchewan go nuts for their team."
I am talking about soccer btw |
KSK1
02.21.13 | Only been once but it's definitely a great city. Has some sketchy areas you wanna avoid but there's a lot to do there. If you speak french im sure you'll get along there fine. I don't so I had my difficulties lol. Overall I think I preferred Toronto to be honest. |
wabbit
02.21.13 | toronto is more boring but it's so fucking chill |
wabbit
02.21.13 | and the people are crazy super nice |
anarchistfish
02.21.13 | This is making things trickier. What I'm thinking about possibly doing is going to the other
university and then going to Montréal, possibly an a permanent basis, after I get my degree. |
JokineAugustus
02.21.13 | Haha alright you got me there. We definitely blow at soccer. |
Adash
02.22.13 | Montreal is the only place I been where I saw whores playing with giant chess pieces in a park full of suave as fuck crackheads.
This, more than any other, is the reason why you need to go there
|
Aids
02.22.13 | go to Montreal, i fucking wish I had gone to McGill for a semester (I'm from Vancouver).
"Cons: Not a place particularly big on football"
you'd be surprised
I mean go with your heart, and obviously you made the first choice sound better, but I fucking love Montreal. French people rule btw, wabbit is from Ontario and he is racist. |
Aids
02.22.13 | oh wait you're European right so you meant real football? I thought you meant American football. Yeah NA is generally not big into football, but it's getting more popular every year. Montreal's team is either about to go, or just went professional so there is probably a huge buzz there. A couple years back was Vancouver's first year in the professional league and the atmosphere (among soccer fans anyway) was great. |
anarchistfish
02.22.13 | Man you're making this really hard for me. Seriously considering just leaving this for the time being
and then moving there permanently later on. I've wanted to leave this country for a long while so it's
a very possible option |
