| 2012 In Review/things To Look Forward To In 2013
This is just a massive statement, composed into a list. The title explains itself. | 1 | | New Trolls UT
Ahem. 2012 was a very strange year. That year in particular, was an introduction of a not so brilliant action to Sputnik users: trolling (it probably had earlier forms in 2011, 2010, etc, it's just that those forms of so were so subtle, no one really noticed). Trolling has become an impeccable problem (personally, I blame it on all the pretentious users [alts included {no names will be mentioned}]) that just hasn?t stopped. It can have some twisted effects on some really good reviews, which sometimes end up being trashed by troll negs. There are a few examples of these still on the site, and many of those user's other reviews may also become victims. We also have the occasional trolling user that just won't stop pissing off other users. As a result, people have to be way more serious about their reviews. | 2 | | Deadmau5 > album title goes here
Two: Deviant is now a moderator. For some users, this is GOOD news. As for others, this is BAD news. I view as an opportunity to final see some more order on this website. You're probably already questioning this, but I will tell you that this is completely good news. Here's why: sometimes we do need a tyrant before something gets out of control. Also, I going to be very honest, but I hardly ever see Channing, the other moderator. He seems like a cool guy and all, but I don't see too many comments from him (makes you wonder what he does). Finally, it gives me a reason to actually write some good reviews. | 3 | | King Crimson In the Wake of Poseidon
Three: despite some of the most unusual changes, we still have some of the greatest things about this site right here: the users. There are still users that give this site so much meaning; I can't express my gratitude for them in front of them, they are so awesome. Firstly, PaperbackWriter is probably one of my favorite Contributors on this site. He really brings true interest to the music that we love and expands more on it. He also brings an air of friendliness to this site that not too many other users can bring. Secondly, another great example of a great user is Atari85. He is also another friendly user and has a fiery passion for the music he reviews, which is what makes him really unique to this place. He is also easy to get along with. There are still some other exceptional reviewers out there (IpodMastery, Nagrarok, and Necrophagist are the first three reviewers that I think of when I think of brilliant writing users) that still put work into their reviews. Well done on your well-deserved accomplishments. | 4 | | Benjamin Gibbard Former Lives
As staff reviewers go, I've seen a particular bunch that show a lot of involvement (SowingSeason, Xenophanes, ElectricCity, Irving, DaveyBoy, JViney, Klap appeared most often) on our site. Out of all of them, I personally think that Irving Tan Zhi Mian showed the most amounts of work, involvement, and accomplishment out of them all this year. While most other staff reviewers were writing a lot less reviews during the final inning of the year, Irving seemed to be going at a normal interval throughout the whole year. He also did a very good job be biased and balanced with his reviews and ratings. He has also had a significant voice in this year's opinions. Honorable mentions for staff include SowingSeason, Eli Kleman, and Adam Downer. | 5 | | Swans The Seer
Lastly, we've had a great amount of music that has had quite the standout. Some of the greatest entries include Rush's Clockwork Angels, Converge's All We Love We Leave Behind, Godspeed You! Black Emperor's Allelujah! Don't Bend! Ascend!, and more. A particular album in 2012 that took me weeks to get into but eventually went over the top of my head was definitely Swan's The Seer. It is a mammoth-sized metal work of art that takes on several dimensions of heaviness, flavor, and mood without losing a single minute of interest; more than enough value to catch the title of the year. And now, a few things I look forward to in the year 2013. | 6 | | Tool Aenima
Finally seeing a new Tool album in 2013 (they're more than 1/2 way through it, they have NO excuse). | 7 | | Iluvatar Iluvatar
Illuvitar back from emeritus as staff reviewer, bringing back more reviews. | 8 | | Soundgarden King Animal
Possible changes for experienced users to become contributors of possibly staff. It might not happen right away this year, but I hope for it so. | 9 | | Skrillex Leaving
Queensryche, Green Day, and Skrillex call it quits. | 10 | | Rush Signals
The day I see a KILL or a SonicPlumber alt, which will probably never happen (well, maybe). I'll be waiting for now. | |

01.18.13 | Music: no real order. Just to be logically incorporated with the albums. If I spelt any names wrong, it's my fault. I wrote this when I didn't have the internet. This is mostly a cause of boredom and another ego-stroke as usual. -_- | geasoftime
01.18.13 | If Tool doesn't release more shit like 10000 Days, I would be very very surprised | NightmareCinema16
01.18.13 | meh, I liked it. I speak for myself, really, I am a Tool Fanboy. | Trebor.
01.18.13 | More of me | NightmareCinema16
01.18.13 | Yeah, I have hopes that you become a contributor in the near future. I still have to wait for awhile. | wabbit
01.18.13 | no bungy and no theacademy

01.18.13 | That part didn't take very long to write. Ahhh, I always forget about theacademy or bungy, they're probably the two users I see the least of strangly. | SgtPepper
01.18.13 | Thank you for the mention. It's very kind of you. I joined on February 2012, so I really dont have any experiences of sputnik's glory days or how much the site has gone downhill or if its gotten better. But this is a great site. All the people that I have met here have been cool, friendly and have great taste in music. There might be a lot of arguing here, but it's really because sputnik is rather small community- and that's the charm of it really. Everybody knows everybody to some degree. It's a good place this site, and I hope it stays that way. | SgtPepper
01.18.13 | Also, you're a good guy yourself, Aaron. I enjoy reading your work as well because you cover a lot of great prog bands that tend to get ignored. So I hope you continue to do that. | NightmareCinema16
01.18.13 | Hey, thanks for joining, man. And you're welcome for the compliments. It brings me joy to spread my own passion of music to a community who seems to know it pretty well, and people like you are the reason I do a great job of reviewing and can explore new genres I haven't heard. | NightmareCinema16
01.18.13 | And yes, I will continue to bring more people to less known prog bands while I can. | SgtPepper
01.18.13 | That's good, it's nice to have people that are always willing to share their music, I've discovered a lot of good stuff because of people like you. I look forward to your next write up, man. | NightmareCinema16
01.18.13 | It should be coming soon, in about a week or so. | JamieTwort
01.18.13 | Good list. You're a cool user Nightmare. | NightmareCinema16
01.19.13 | Thanks, man. I beginning to spread my music boundaries a little further out than I used to. Still, I keep progging on. :D | Irving
01.20.13 | Actually I didn't write that much all year as Staff. I think I only had half a dozen reviews after my promotion? Which makes for an average of...a review a month lol (seeing that I was promoted in June or something). Not exactly a Pulitzer-winning work-rate XD | NightmareCinema16
01.20.13 | Well, I didn't see too many other staff reviewers from what I saw (maybe I should pay more attention). I saw your reviews the most from my viewpoint, most in november and december, and I personally liked yours the most. That's just me, I still think you deserve some honor. |
