| Saw Herbie Hancock
I saw him playing yesterday on a local jazz festival. Hancock came out
with a quintet and played a nice portion of his bebop repertory mixed
with some freeform muffins, ace. After that we had a break for about 30
mins to go out and buy drinks/food, something. You could as well talk
with certain players, guess what, I talked with Hancock! I asked him how
were the sessions for Rivers' Contours, since that's one of my favorite
jazz albums ever; he explained to me the process by which it was
recorded, performed, and how Rivers arranged it. His voice was deep and
inviting, very uplifting tone he had, and I thoroughly enjoyed having a
conversation with one of the most prolific pianists in jazz music. Another
thing I discovered was that in the up 50's and 60's 'children of my age'
(as he said) were really involved in the whole community, and assisted
many shows. Hancock thought that it was fantastic to see people my
age going to his concert. We had a handshake and a bit after he
emerged with a trio & played more mellow, cool/modal stuff, Evans' style.
Overall it was an excellent experience and I'm really looking forward to

01.18.13 | Where is this? That's amazing though. I like HH very much, but I'm obsessed with Wayne Shorter's work. I'd love to speak with him about his career because its rather prolific. From his work with Miles, to the solo stuff and his peak years with The Weather Report.
