The Best Metal Of 2012

So I'm a little late for making year end lists which is technically what this rlist is, I crafted my rrtop 15 albums and realized basically they were all metal. Oh well, I will try and broaden my rtastes next year. Anyway without further a due my here are my official top 15 albums of 2012 rm/!
15Shadows Fall
Fire From the Sky

Rating 3.5: Shadows fall's best since a War Within, Fire from the Sky see's the
Shads taking up some of the song writing that initially made them so awesome and
continue to make classic thrash infused metalcore styled songs with it. Best song:
Save Your Soul.
14Dying Fetus
Reign Supreme

Rating 3.5: On Reign Supreme, Dying Fetus really takes their brutal song writing to
the next level, crafing songs that are still uncompromising but also mostly
memorable. Best Song:Subjected to a Beating
13Agalloch
Faustian Echoes

Rating 4: The first of two EPs on this list, Faustian Echoes takes one of the most
interesting and chilling concepts in the tale of fausts deal with the devil and
combines it with Agalloch's equally interesing and chilling winter atmospheres. This
album likes all of Agalloch's albums strikes the perfect balance of beauty and winter
fury and contains one of the best Black Metal riffs of 2012. Best song: Try and
guess bro!
12Every time I Die
Ex Lives

Rating 4: Every Time I Die are pissed off and they want the whole world to fucking
know it and with Ex Lives, they make it quite obvious. Ex Lives is loud and blunt in
the best of ways with there being nothing subtle about it's delivery. Where Every
Time I Die really excel though is on their slower songs. Best Song: Drag King.
11The Faceless
Autotheism

Rating 4: With this album it's easy to see why Keene worships himself. Being able
to craft a technically efficient yet still somehow catchy tech death album is
impressive. While the influences on this album are extremely obvious and not really
all that original the end result is still a pummeling yet thoughtful inclusion into the
Faceless's discography. Best Song: Autotheist.
10Revocation
Teratogenesis

Rating 4: This is the first of two EPs on this list, and believe me when I say that
this EP deserves to be presented along with full albums, it's that good. In just 20
short minutes Revocation continue to show that they are one of the best modern
thrash bands out there right now making a ripping straight forward EP focusing on
the Death Metal side of their unique sound. By the end this short EP has totally
decimated you and left you wanting more. Best song: Teratogenesis.
9The Sword
Apocryphon

Rating 4: The Sword continue to get better on their latest, Apocryphon, making
some of the best songs of their career. Apocryphon, like all Sword albums, contains
catchy stoner riffage, Mythical/Sci-Fi Lyrics, and hard pounding drums yet it
remains fresh due to crisper production and a great collection of songs. Best Song:
Eyes of the Stormwitch
8Katatonia
Dead End Kings

Rating 4: Dead End Kings shows Katatonia not really changing their sound up all
that much and this for the most part is for the better. With depressing
atmospheres, beautifully sleak production, and insanely catchy songs Katatonia
continue to perfect their sund. Best Song: The One You are Looking For is not
Here.
7High on Fire
De Vermis Mysteriis

Rating 4: Holy shit, Mat Pike and the gang really became pissed off with this one
and that raw as fuck production thanks to Kurt Ballou helps showcase this all the
more. This album will rip your face off yet at the same time calm you with its
stoned out riffs and rhythms. Best song: King of Days
6Cannibal Corpse
Torture

Rating 4.5: I don't know how Cannibal pulled this one off but with Torture they
make their most consistent and hard hitting album since the Bleeding. This is also
quite a varied affair for a death metal album which helps it greatly. Best song:
Scourge of Iron
5Meshuggah
Koloss

Rating 4.5: Coming in 5th on this sweet list and weighing in at like 5 tons is Koloss.
On Koloss the crazy swedes really narrow down their sound a bit making some of
their most well crafted songs yet. Believe me though when I say this album
contains enough polyrhythm madness and heavy as fuck guitar tone to make any
Meshuggah fan happy. Best Song: Behind the Sun
4Deftones
Koi No Yokan

Rating 4.5: Like Enslaved Deftones continue to be consistent but also continue to
experiment by adding beautiful soundscapes to the meshuggah like riffing perfected
on Diamond Eyes. While not as good as Diamond Eyes the Deftones still
successfully craft a masterpiece in Yokan. Best song: Rosemary
3Ne Obliviscaris
Portal of I

Rating 4.5: 2012 was definitely a great year for Progressive Metal in General and
Portal of I is no exception. Its like an actually good modern Opeth except combined with crazier
world music influences. No doubt this album contains some of the best use of
flutes, Violins, and clean singing I've ever had the pleasure of hearing on a metal
album. Best song: And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope.
2Enslaved
RIITIIR

Rating 4.5: Enslaved continue to be the most consistent band ever and release
another breathtaking album that combines the best of black metal riffs and growls
with beautiful and catchy progressive sections. Definitely an album climb the
majestic mountains of Valhalla too. Best song: Roots of the Mountain.
1 Gojira
L'Enfant Sauvage

Rating 5: I might be in the minority here, but I found this to be a masterpiece
which took Gojira's winning formula that they used on The Way of All Flesh and
removed its one flaw by trimming off the fat. There are also some moments of
undeniable beauty on this album that makes this album unbeatable and album of the
year 2012. Best Song: Mouth of Kala
