Top 10 Of 2012
This is my opinion of the best albums of 2012, due to their cohesion, ability, and skill. Enjoy. |
10 | | Saturnus Saturn In Ascension
Since I discovered their album "Veronika Decides to Die" last year, I've been
anxiously looking forward to their new material, and finally it is here, combining
elements from former releases for a great death/doom release. |
9 | | While She Sleeps This Is The Six
I discovered this band near the end of the year, and although they certainly break
no rules of the hardcore/metalcore genre, their passion and delivery took me
completely off-guard. |
8 | | In Mourning The Weight Of Oceans
I've always had a soft spot for In Mourning, and this album continues the tradition
of great progressive death metal, but creating it in a unique fashion within the
genre and within their own discography. |
7 | | Meshuggah Koloss
Perfecting upon what made ObZen so awesome, Meshuggah created a
mechanically devastating and dark album. |
6 | | Downfall Of Gaia Suffocating In The Swarm of Cranes
Taking cues from post-metal and atmospheric/avant-garde hardcore, Downfall Of
Gaia came out of nowhere to steal a place in my heart. |
5 | | Katatonia Dead End Kings
Incredibly complex and yet so accessible, Katatonia's 2012 release somehow tops
"The Great Cold Distance." |
4 | | Neurosis Honor Found In Decay
Neurosis is back. |
3 | | From Indian Lakes Able Bodies
I thoroughly enjoyed these guys' album "The Man With Wooden Legs" for its dense
and atmospheric musical approach, and this album surprised me with its ability to
top that. |
2 | | Swans The Seer
Swans has always been a great band, but this album is one of the most intriguing
and complex pieces of musical art perhaps of all time. Towering and difficult to
overcome, but incredibly powerful. |
1 | | Amenra Mass V
Holy crap. Amenra has created something that topped Mass IIII. Full of dense
sludgy riffs and pain-wrought vocals, this album makes it. Amenra paints a bleak
and gorgeous picture of the apocalypse. |
