12.27.12 | seriously what happened to thrash? How did 1990 and 1991 have so much good thrash and then by 1993 is was basically vanished off the earth? |
zxlkho
12.27.12 | Thrash became irrelevant as soon as death metal had a few great albums in the early 90s. It still is irrelevant outside of a few bands. |
theacademy
12.27.12 | wat |
Tyrael
12.27.12 | according to KILL it died in 93 |
Atari
12.27.12 | @zxlkho, my list proves that thrash wasn't irrelevant until at least after 1991 :P |
YankeeDudel
12.27.12 | we went over this. thrash was not a very diverse genre. yea you had some that leaned more towards power/prog and some more towards death/black, but ultimately its kind of a straightforward genre. there wasnt anywhere else it could have went and just ran its course. death/black metal just overtook thrash and then the whole grunge/alt/nu metal became very popular. thrash had a good run tho so enjoy the mems. |
Atari
12.27.12 | @Ty, well then i agree with KILL |
Atari
12.27.12 | @academy, what are you confused about? |
JamieTwort
12.27.12 | I'd say thrash pretty much died in 92, despite a few exceptions. |
Geadom
12.27.12 | Nothing to contribute right now, but posting on great thread to watch : ) |
Atari
12.27.12 | yeah 1992 had extravasation and epidemic of violence though that's why i say 1993 ;) |
JamieTwort
12.27.12 | I meant by the end of 92, so yeah I guess you could just say 93. Nice list btw. |
YankeeDudel
12.27.12 | basically every genre of music is lucky to last about 6-7 years until it starts gettng tedious and just starts running through
the motions. |
Atari
12.27.12 | thanks, it's fun to look at my ratings by release date and i couldn't believe how many thrash albums there were in 1990 and 91 compared to 93 and 94 |
ButteryBiscuitBass
12.27.12 | You've just reminded me, I need to listen to more thrash. |
Atari
12.27.12 | what would i do without your infinite knowledge yankee? :P |
evilford
12.27.12 | rip
at least they recorded their music so we can still listen to it |
YankeeDudel
12.27.12 | well you asked a question you should have been able to answer yourself jus sayin but yea i just pounded some coffee and wanted to rant a lil bit. |
Atari
12.27.12 | i do actually enjoy some recent thrash, it's just missing that spark that made it so good in the 80's and 90's |
ZombieParty
12.27.12 | Have you heard of a band called Vektor? they are pretty good |
Atari
12.27.12 | @Yankee, yeah i suppose i could have answered it myself but I asked the question so I could get different opinions/viewpoints |
Eclecticist
12.27.12 | Usually, I hate it when users comment on a list and say that the topic should have been posted in the forums.
But this is definitely one of those topics that should have been. |
Atari
12.27.12 | why? it's a list with 25 albums on it lol |
Eclecticist
12.27.12 | Because then it could be an on-going discussion focused on when the golden era of thrash really did end. |
RiffOClock
12.27.12 | some1 give the dude a medal |
Atari
12.27.12 | @Eclecticist, my bad i doubt the discussion will go on that long anyways ;) |
evilford
12.27.12 | forums suck
good list anyways, it's fine here |
Eclecticist
12.27.12 | lol you guys suck, it was just a suggestion
oh well |
evilford
12.27.12 | well I don't really think there's much more to be said, thrash is dead, rip, here's some good albums, listen and reflect
the end |
Atari
12.27.12 | lol ford |
wakeupdead
12.27.12 | you should watch the thrash episode of Metal Evolution, it explains a lot.... basically Grunge happened |
Atari
12.27.12 | ugh i can't stand grunge |
alachlahol
12.27.12 | what this guy^^ said! grunge happened not death metal!! |
evilford
12.27.12 | altars of madness/chaos A.D. killed thrash really |
alachlahol
12.27.12 | and you know this how |
evilford
12.27.12 | well I don't know this to be a fact but that's what I think happened, based on order of events and trends in thrash/dm after they were released. moreso with altars, I was kind of joking about chaos AD. |
Calc
12.27.12 | i wish I cared about this list but its good im certain lol |
Atari
12.27.12 | ha calc you just have picky taste |
Calc
12.27.12 | its not picky i just dont like metal tis all lol. |
Atari
12.27.12 | i thought you were picky with pop punk too though :P hmm maybe not cause you loved blink's new EP |
Sevhead
12.27.12 | No single band has developed thrash post-nineties as much as Meshuggah, i.e. Destroy Erase Improve. |
ManaYoodSushai
12.27.12 | Vektor was mentioned above. Great shout, but I guess there not pure thrash because they have vovoid influences that are pretty prevelant |
bloc
12.27.12 | As long as people listen to thrash, it lives. Simple. |
ManaYoodSushai
12.27.12 | I guess bloc is right. If it is listened to it lives..eg. no one listens to disco anymore on a regular basis |
Atari
12.27.12 | thrash lives yeah but 1991 was probably the last great year for that style of music |
Atari
12.27.12 | well 23 is nowhere near the best album on here but it doesn't suck IMO |
Hyperion1001
12.27.12 | how can thrash have died when uve got bands like lich king and municipal waste?!?!?? |
Atari
12.27.12 | not better than rust in peace lol |
