When I was about to attack this pirate stronghold, this random komodo dragon wandered in and started causing havoc. It was glorious. Also, the characters are some of the best characters in video games ever. No joke. Vaas is an astounding villain. |

Dishonored is pretty good. It's kind of like RAGE in that it's very atmospheric, but it's not really anything too special when it comes to gameplay or writing/story/etc. It's worth it if you think you'll like the gameplay.
The new expansion for Skyrim doesn't really have a lengthy story expansion, but it adds a ton of interesting shit to the game. I would get it on PC over a console (though I think it's only on Xbox as of now?) any day though.
Infamous series looks pretty good. I saw someone recommend Prototype 2 above, and I'd have to disagree on that. Prototype 2 isn't exactly a fulfilling sequel to an even less fulfilling first game.
I haven't played FarCry 3, and the majority opinion on gaming usually doesn't hold much weight with me, but it does look good.

12.19.12 | Let me rephrase. Part of the appeal for Dishonored for me was the graphics. I don't play consoles. PC graphics are superior by far, and Dishonored looks almost real when played on high settings with a HD or LED TV. That was a large amount of the appeal for me. |

I'm pushing on 22, but I don't really see how it's relevant. I'll have to harshly disagree with "there are plenty of games out there with a great story and writing". There have hardly been any good games this century with good writing/storytelling honestly, and I'm even being nice on that note. Yet while that happens more and more games are focusing on aesthetic/visual design and mechanics at the cost of losing immersing stories and good writing (see: Crysis), save for very few exceptions (see: Alan Wake, Mass Effect series, maybe more that I can't think of). I can appreciate visual design as I'm involved with it, sort of, myself, but it can't make or break a game for me while the other aforementioned parts can. |

I understand what you mean. And yea, that's why I say a lot of people would like Dishonored. Bethesda has been cranking out spectacular design in the visual department. If you like Dishonored that much, then you might like RAGE if you haven't already played it. I couldn't get into it, but I have a few friends that loved it. |

The lore is good, but the story isn't anything to write home about. The game itself tries to sell on its mechanics/gameplay, which is pretty typical ARPG all around. That's why I said "if you've ever played a good ARPG before", though. None of your mentioned elements are bad at all, but they've all been outdone plenty of times. The aspects of challenging gameplay and replayability are why I say I can understand the appeal. It's cool if you like that and all, but like I said, it has all been done (better) before. Dark Souls just stands out because there haven't been many ARPGs in the past few years, let alone good ones.
Then again this just seems like a case of "I like this game, so I have to validate why it's good!" in where someone isn't differentiating subjectivity and objectivity out of ignorance. It's like someone trying to defend SC2 when they've never even played Brood War. |

Why not pick it up for the PC? It got ported over not long ago with some extras I believe, and even though it's not too great of a port (capped FPS and whatnot), it's probably more convenient that way. It's probably pretty cheap on console now if you can't play it on PC, though. |

12.19.12 | Yea, you need a controller. It's easy to just set up a wired Xbox controller if you have one. Mnk wasn't really considered when it was ported over to the PC, sadly. I think there have been a few mods as well, specifically one that fixes the crappy 30 fps cap and bumps it to 60 or something. |
