This one was pure candy overload for Tolkien enthusiasts, and I was at no point bored, but it did feel a little drawn out in bits yes

pxl 12.13.12	48 fps+ 3D + 4k and it was amazing. You will definitely notice the difference (Fight scenes look much better as well as the 3D effect). The movie itself is a ~7/10

Friday13th 12.13.12	I'll probably love it. The prog-rocker in me revels in long, drawn-out works of art haha. Though I did think it made no sense for the Hobbit to be three movies when the book was shorter than any of the Lord of the Rings books. Then again, I thought the extended versions of the trilogy were the only way to go.

Aids 12.14.12	I expect to like the movie. However, more than any other book I've ever read, I have such strong imagery in my head associated with the scenes in the book because it was read to me as I was growing up, from quite a young age. I'm guessing that will stop me from loving the movie.

Polyethylene 12.16.12	Yeah, because of how much time and energy it spent setting down the foundations of the story, I'm feeling part 2 and 3 will be absolutely phenomenal (LOTR quality). I wish they released them like a month apart though, not a year :(
Satellite 12.16.12	my only complaint is that the action got a little to cartoony at some points and made it feel like there was nothing at stake for a while. but overall i liked the film a lot. escapism entertainment at its best.

It does have a very different look to LOTR, it's shiny and has this amber glow that dominates it (firelit caverns, sunrises etc.) compared to LOTR which was all grey, brown and green I like how it has its own identity in colour, music and tone but still slides into LOTR-style moments (like Rivendell and Gollum) with total ease

Polyethylene 12.16.12	Comparison with LOTR is inevitable but kinda silly, they were very different books and are already very different movies. I doubt I will get as emotionally invested in this trilogy as I did in that one (still weep like a baby at the end of ROTK), but the silliness of these movies is a nice change from all the melodrama

Polyethylene 12.16.12	It does get a little syrupy at times (Sam's speech about "good worth fighting for" at the end of T2T in particular) but that stuff is totally what validates the action and the runtime, without it the movies would be cold and impersonal

Polyethylene 12.18.12	You have to have quite kinetic and fast-paced action if you're juggling a group of fifteen characters all fighting... you get some lovely wide shots of all of them in a group but also a few where it shoots from dwarf to dwarf at a high speed, that might be "overwhelming" for some. Solid 7.5, next two will surely be 9s or higher

I also thought it had a much lighter even somewhat silly style, but I thought that fit the tone of the book pretty well (though it was a little TOO silly at a couple points). It definitely wasn't as good as the original trilogy, not that I was expecting it to be, but it's a fucking awesome movie.
