Emyay
11.20.12 | all in all, sweet concert |
Inferis
11.20.12 | If it fucked you up then use 'em. Sounds like a good show by the way. |
Emyay
11.20.12 | Yeah I hear you snox. A lot of bands have that problem that you were describing Chimaira having. I saw them too, and I definitely noticed that. Moral of the story is basically, "bring earplugs...whether I need them or not is to be determined" |
ReturnToRock
11.20.12 | Earplugs are for pussies. |
VermicideReloadead
11.20.12 | Earplugs are for the people that are always with their shitty iphone in concerts. Earplugs are for little babies. |
KjSwantko
11.20.12 | Earplugs are totally un-metal sorry. |
MO
11.20.12 | when I jam with my band I need earplugs because of the acoustics of such a small room, but playing live I never wear them
but yea lol at people in the audience wearing earplugs |
Emyay
11.20.12 | Fair enough. Definitely bringing them along next time, though. Just in case. Last night could have used one just for the right ear and I wouldn't be sitting here with this shitty ringing all day. I actually think it would be funny if someone ended up calling me a pussy. I can only hope it would be to my face, but I doubt it! |
ReturnToRock
11.20.12 | Also I never wore earplugs in the studio even though I knew people who did. |
OmairSh
11.20.12 | Noice description Em, you just know those responses are to be expected on the internet. |
Emyay
11.20.12 | i've never been in a studio...you mean when playing drums, RtR? i can't imagine anything else being all that loud, but i don't know shit about recording
thanks omair, they're to be expected, but i don't mind them. just makin this list for shits bc i'm bored at work. wouldn't give a damn if all comments were bullshit. would be kinda sad if no one commented though. ronery rittle emray |
OmairSh
11.20.12 | Actually the comments get very old. Most people are just waiting for an opportunity to belittle someone else for their choices and make themselves "feel better" in the process. It's kind of sad. Differences in opinion can be dealt with in a better, more civilised manner. But then I guess the internet would be half as entertaining. Trade off I guess. |
ReturnToRock
11.20.12 | I meant bass. I usually just don't turn my bass up that loud, although my bandmates would still complain that I was drowning them out. I like to be able to hear myself, but I don't want to drive myself deaf in the process. When we gigged live, nothing seemed all that loud either. And at a metal concert, I've never been uncomfortable with the sound levels, but then again, I'm not a front-row kind of guy at all. |
evilford
11.20.12 | emyay sucks chode |
evilford
11.20.12 | really tho I never wear earplugs. just gotta avoid standing right in front of the main speakers. usually standing close enough to the stage in the little "triangle" area where you are not in the direct projection path of the speakers, you shouldn't need them. |
OmairSh
11.20.12 | Maybe he should've consulted you before the concert evilford :P |
fr33convict
11.20.12 | I always wear earplugs when I'm playing shows or at practice because we practice loud as hell. But if I'm going to a show
to see a band I probably won't wear earplugs unless the sound tech is running everything way too loud. |
Dolving999
11.20.12 | Last week I went to an Every Time I Die show, and stood right next to Keith all the time. By the time I got out, I had this annoying buzz in my hears, and I had to wait at least 1 more day for it to go away.
But I don't care, show was awesome and earplugs would have probably muffled the sound a bit. |
eleventhsun
11.20.12 | The only time I felt the need for earplugs was for Motorhead. Shit is like a fucking tank hitting you. No joke.
I've been on stage with Cryptopsy thrashing out and it was nothing compared to this. |
Rikardur
11.20.12 | I had to for Swans, otherwise I probably wouldn't hear the same again. |
Shuyin
11.20.12 | well since my ears are fucked beyond belief..
i need earplugs at metal shows or my tinnitus will go apeshit |
DatsNotDaMetulz
11.20.12 | I started wearing earplugs at Hevy last year, been wearing them to shows ever since. But I forgot them when I saw Feed the Rhino on Sunday so had to substitute by improvising and using my inner-ear earphones as makeshift earplugs. Kinda worked but not as well as earplugs. |
YankeeDudel
11.20.12 | My little brother got tinnitus about 2 months ago from a Coheed show. He was in the 2nd row and yea he didnt "wanna be a bitch" and wear earplugs. Well his ears are still fucked now and havent gotten better. Might be permanent. So yea Id say wear earplugs if you're up front because once your ears are fucked they may never get better. |
DatsNotDaMetulz
11.20.12 | I'm pretty sure I've had some form of tinnitus since way back before I started going to gigs and I've learned to live with it - I only ever notice it when I think about it nowadays, although that's always been the case. My hearing's still really good either way. |
Emyay
11.20.12 | see, thats the shit i'm worried about |
Hyperion1001
11.20.12 | all musicians wear earplugs so you should too
i have a pair of hearos and they work just fine and dont make me enjoy shows any less, plus no permanent damage. |
YankeeDudel
11.20.12 | I mean its crazy how many musicians have tinnitus and have to live with the loud ringing and pain in their ears the rest of their life and/or can barely hear at all anymore. Im sure theyd tell you its not worth it. Most people get the ringing in their ears just for a couple days and it goes away but some it never does. Just get some good smaller clear earplugs and nobody will even know you got em in. |
Emyay
11.20.12 | we have a lifetime supply at work for the folks that have to work in noisy areas. so easy for me to just grab a pair of those every time. |
DatsNotDaMetulz
11.20.12 | Yeah I'm fully aware of that which is why I'm grateful I only ever hear the ringing when I'm thinking about it (in which THEN it gets irritating) and try to remember earplugs every time I go to shows - I even went out of a gig once to make sure everyone in my media society - complete metal novices who were filming a local band's gig - had earplugs to make sure they didn't screw up their hearing. |
DatsNotDaMetulz
11.20.12 | Anyone with tinnitus anyway - listen to Info Dump by Strapping Young Lad. It's essentially just static/white noise which is meant to help. |
MalleusMaleficarum
11.20.12 | "Chamaira had the bass drum so loud that all you could hear were double bass kicks and all the guitar riffs were indistinguishable"
that could just be the venue or the sound guy bein dum |
Iamthe Nightstars
11.20.12 | I wear earplugs. It's the smart thing to do. Ears don't heal. |
pmmets07
11.20.12 | you guys are so fucking dumb just wear earplugs nobody cares how they look
plus they don't make you hear worse at the shows, they just take away the harshness |
Iamthe Nightstars
11.20.12 | Exactly pmmets07 |
pmmets07
11.20.12 | the one time i forgot earplugs was when i saw dangers at a houseshow and it honestly just sounded like noise the whole time. all i heard was cymbals |
YankeeDudel
11.20.12 | Supposedly my man William Shatner got tinnitus from an explosion on Star Trek and it was so bad he wanted to commit suicide, but then he did this experimental tinnitus retraining therapy that trained him to not notice it as much anymore by using white noise or something. |
evilford
11.20.12 | so does he still want to suicide? |
Steoandnoodles
11.20.12 | I have to because I have really sensitive and narrow ear canals. If ever I plan on standing up front, I bring 'em just in case.
Believe me, sometimes having tinnitus can be so bad you'll want to cut off your ears. XD It's so unbearably annoying when you're trying to sleep. |
Shuyin
11.20.12 | white noise treatment, tinnitus is just psychological problem. the ears have a problem and try to fix it, the brain understands that as a noise. ignoring the noise isnt part of the solution, you need to accept it as if its a good thing.
thats the hard part, then you can treat yourself with some white noise, its also useful to sleep. although nothing will make tinnitus go away, the treatment can lock it elsewhere if done right.. or something like that. yea, my tinnitus is that bad |
Steoandnoodles
11.20.12 | What about the case of actually damaging your ear. Tinnitus could be the sound of blood rushing
through to your ear to heal the infection/damage. It's not always psychological, is it? |
Shuyin
11.20.12 | never read anything about that, i got my tinnitus from a big infection in my left ear
have more info here: http://www.tinnitus.org/home/frame/THC1.htm
there was a site explaining how to do the white noise treatment and stuff, but i cant find it right now |
OmairSh
11.20.12 | Damn now I'm hesitant to put the volume up on my headphones. |
MegaJake1024
11.20.12 | Best list description I've ever seen Emyay, haha. |
UnnamedOcean
11.20.12 | I always bring earplugs but only use them half the time. It's the pair I use when drumming, so they are meant to reduce the dB but not just block out noise.
I'd rather not damage my hearing before I'm 40. |
UnnamedOcean
11.20.12 | I actually saw High on Fire once, and their sound definitely hurt my ears. |
Ire
11.20.12 | yeah earplugs for most shows yeah being deaf is gay and anyone who says otherwise is btbam |
Scoot
11.20.12 | hope you all enjoy being deaf in twenty years |
demon of surveillance
11.20.12 | I wear earplugs at any concert. Yeah it might make me a pussy but at least I'm hearing the music as it should be and I'll have the ears to still listen the music decades from now. |
Ire
11.20.12 | hearing is awesome i dig it |
Scoot
11.20.12 | norse gangsta has my back |
Ire
11.20.12 | not wearing your earplugs...? YOLO! |
OmairSh
11.20.12 | Aww Scoot thats so sweet of you
@Ire haha |
SaneTBP
11.20.12 | yeah fucking your hearing in the young age and tinnitus is sweet don't use them! :) |
OmairSh
11.20.12 | All the trve rockstars do the same, right Sane? |
demon of surveillance
11.20.12 | @Scoot damn right bro |
AStableReference
11.20.12 | I always wear earplugs to really loud concerts, you still hear and feel the music and it isn't worth losing your hearing if you are a music lover. |
wacknizzle
11.20.12 | The only band I'd consider wearing earplugs to see live is Sunn O))) |
AStableReference
11.20.12 | And it doesn't matter how "wimpy" they think you are for wearing them, you'll be the one laughing in the end when they can't hear shit. |
GiaNXGX
11.20.12 | Saw Sunn O))) live. Never again, didn't used earplugs and they were playing so loud it sounded like a 747 engine. |
Emyay
11.20.12 | MegaJake is my boy for stroking my ego |
eleventhsun
11.20.12 | I was given tickets to a cradle of filth show last year. I'm pretty lenient with live music, especially after 20 beers; but I
honestly shoved toilet paper balls in my ears. |
demigod!
12.05.12 | I saw Mastodon and I was fine. They were pretty underwhelming though
Converge, on the other hand... |
DeadToPain
03.14.13 | I never have, though there were some club shows where I wish I'd had a pair (Dalek was so treble heavy it was excruciating). I saw Dinosaur Jr. not too long back and they were by far the loudest band I had ever seen. My ears hurt for days. |
slimdaddy
03.14.13 | I always try to use earplugs, I regrettably forgot them last night when I saw Royal Thunder and now my ears are throbbing |
Emyay
03.14.13 | yeah i think the safe way to go is just bring them, and if you need them, you use them. otherwise you're good to go. |
oltnabrick
03.18.14 | lol
|
henryChinaski
03.18.14 | Pro earplugs! |
