ChuckyTruant
10.20.12 | Mine is Ibanez.
List is bands that use Ibanez's |
jdennis31
10.20.12 | fender, need me some twang. plus, after playing a yamaha aes and les paul for so many years, i need a guitar that doesn't feel like it'll give me a hernia |
wacknizzle
10.20.12 | Paul Reed Smith Custom 24 Thin Pattern Neck. More perfect for me than Ibanez, plus I hate that all the Ibanez I want are 25.5 not 25 scale neck like PRS and the pickups just don't do it for me. |
ChuckyTruant
10.20.12 | Haha yeah dude LP's are so fuckin heavy. Even tele's and strats are real heavy in comparison to my RG tho |
Emyay
10.20.12 | i haven't tried many. i'm a lefty. i own an ibanez electric, fender acoustic, and taylor acoustic. |
jdennis31
10.20.12 | yea, my thinline tele isn't that light, even as a semi-hollow, but feels really light in comparison to les paul. was thinkin about gettin a prs custom before but couldn't justify the price at my skill level at the time. remember it playing amazingly smooth tho |
ChuckyTruant
10.20.12 | Ahh yeah, PRS's are great. My uncle has one and I love playing it. |
wacknizzle
10.20.12 | Yeah I've loved PRS since I first played one other than the shitty Modern Eagle. There's just something that's always off with each Ibanez I want that just doesn't fit my style. What model RG do yo own Chuck? |
ChuckyTruant
10.20.12 | Yeah PRS just make the highest quality budget guitars IMO. But I've never owned one |
ChuckyTruant
10.20.12 | RG2ex2. Nothing special, but I love it. |
jdennis31
10.20.12 | ibanez rg120 was the first geet i ever owned and i loved that thing. no clue what happened to it tho -_- |
wacknizzle
10.20.12 | That's cool. If you ever wanna get an Ibanez Prestige or Premium. Do it through http://www.ibanezrules.com/new/index.htm
He hooks it up. Sets the guitar up for you perfectly and make sure it's all the mean shred machine it can be, and his prices still beat most stores for what you get with each service package level. |
ChuckyTruant
10.20.12 | Damn man. That sucks. Yeah I've never touched an ibanez I didn't like tho |
ChuckyTruant
10.20.12 | Oh holy crap sweet. Thanks man I wasn't even aware of that. |
Eclecticist
10.20.12 | Daemoness
Halo
Schecter
Rondo music, their 'Agile' brand specifically
Ibanez |
wacknizzle
10.20.12 | Yeah they just need to be set-up properly and not get the shit kicked out of it by Guitar Center employees and dumb 15yr olds. |
ChuckyTruant
10.20.12 | Ooooh. Daemoness, haven't played one, but they look great |
jdennis31
10.20.12 | site blocked at work. do you know if he has any icemans? i used to play my buddy's way back in the day and remember it feeling like the best guitar i'd ever played |
wacknizzle
10.20.12 | Check out this beast, I still regret not buying it but still it was $2300 and once again the 25.5 scale would always have bothered me, plus the pickups suck. But my god I've never seen a more beautiful guitar.
http://www.ibanezrules.com/new/rga420z.htm |
KjSwantko
10.20.12 | Ibanez and PRS are about the only consistently good mainstream companies these days. Otherwise small companies like Flaxwood rule. |
ChuckyTruant
10.20.12 | Holy shit. That thing is gorgeous.
Does he have any with a fixed bridge? |
ChuckyTruant
10.20.12 | Yeah agreed KJ. Some day I want a Bernie Rico or Invictus |
wacknizzle
10.20.12 | Caparisons are pretty bad ass guitars. |
ChuckyTruant
10.20.12 | Ahhh yeah. Peavey guitars are sick too
Devin Townsend uses peavey
Tim Millar in PtH uses both caparison and peavey |
Trebor.
10.20.12 | I'm a Gibson man |
KjSwantko
10.20.12 | Gibson's quality is awful these days. And I own one lol. |
jdennis31
10.20.12 | finely tuned/adjusted epiphone = or > stock gibson @ 1/4 the price |
wacknizzle
10.20.12 | I played this amazing Les Paul Traditional Pro at guitar center a couple weeks ago though an Orange Rockerverb 50. I stayed and jammed for 3 and a half hours. |
Trebor.
10.20.12 | I rock a 300 dollar ephipone les paul that I got like 5 years ago |
jdennis31
10.20.12 | werd treb, i traded in my 72 custom les paul for a mesa boogie combo and an epiphone les paul custom and got the les paul fixed up. i honestly think i trade raped the guy |
ChuckyTruant
10.20.12 | Hahahh. Dang man |
Trebor.
10.20.12 | I still only have a practice amp |
KjSwantko
10.20.12 | Really. Buy an Epiphone, replace the nut and put Burstbuckers in it and there ya go- sweet guitar for a faction of the price. |
MalleusMaleficarum
10.20.12 | I have a Fender
fuck y'all |
KjSwantko
10.20.12 | hopefully its at least a '56 American.....otherwise gay. lol jk |
ChuckyTruant
10.20.12 | Lol |
jdennis31
10.20.12 | i have a thinline 72 tele as well @malleus, it's my fav geet that i own |
Trebor.
10.20.12 | telecasters rule but strats are definitely the most overrated guitar of all time |
MalleusMaleficarum
10.20.12 | i have a Telecaster but what i really want is a pearl drumset |
KjSwantko
10.20.12 | I disagree. Their tone rules and is highly distinguishable. Nothing cuts through for soloing like a quality Strat. |
wacknizzle
10.20.12 | Really Trebor? I thought Tele's were underrated and Strat's were overrated. Gibson Les Paul is the most overrated guitar but seriously a Great Les Paul is an amazing guitar no matter how heavy that bastard is. |
MalleusMaleficarum
10.20.12 | "Nothing cuts through for soloing like a quality Strat."
oh take a hike |
KjSwantko
10.20.12 | see: Malmsteen & Impelliterri |
ChuckyTruant
10.20.12 | Strats are best for jazz and blues as well |
Trebor.
10.20.12 | I just said strats are overrated dude |
MalleusMaleficarum
10.20.12 | lol |
KjSwantko
10.20.12 | True that bra, Clapton and Vaughan didn't play 'em because they sucked! |
Trebor.
10.20.12 | I don't play fuckin jazz or blues, blues is by for the most boring style ughhh |
MalleusMaleficarum
10.20.12 | fully in line with chucks post |
wacknizzle
10.20.12 | A Gibson ESS-335 is the perfect jazz/blues guitar. Strats are perfect for Clapton. You didn't edit your comment did you Trebor? I swore that it said Tele's were overrated but I clearly see that either way you didn't mean that, my bad. |
jdennis31
10.20.12 | disagreed. blues/jazz is by far the most fun style to play, especially when incorporating tapping. |
JamieTwort
10.20.12 | Gibson. A lot of my favourite guitarists play a les paul most of the time. |
ChuckyTruant
10.20.12 | Yea me and malleus actually agree on something |
KjSwantko
10.20.12 | my buddy's '81 custom rules dick but my 2006 fuckin' sucks. No idea why I bought it looking back (probably since LPs have a sweet favorite body design). |
Trebor.
10.20.12 | blues is so fucking boring and samey, the scale is so close together you don't even have to move your hand ever |
wacknizzle
10.20.12 | Jimmy Page played a Les Paul live but a Telecaster was his go-to for recording. But Zeppelin is still a bunch of chodes for stealing from all those blues musicians and not paying them a cent. |
jdennis31
10.20.12 | i don't know enough formal music theory to completely articulate a response to that, but you have the entire neck to play... |
ChuckyTruant
10.20.12 | Lol trebs, blues are essential to any form of rock music tho |
JamieTwort
10.20.12 | "blues is so fucking boring and samey, the scale is so close together you don't even have to move your hand ever"
lol cos that's what people look for in guitar playing, how far the player moves his hand. |
Trebor.
10.20.12 | I don't give a fuck
rock salt is essential to making ice cream but I don't fucking eat rock salt
John Voight's balls were essential in creating Angelina Joile but I don't beat off to his balls |
MalleusMaleficarum
10.20.12 | post of the year^ excluding all malleus posts |
jdennis31
10.20.12 | you have like 7 different modes for each key. how do you not move your hand |
Trebor.
10.20.12 | Move up and down yeah but not much left and right
I don't know I just don't like blues at all |
wakeupdead
10.20.12 | Paul Reed Smith probably, even though my main guitar is an Ibanez |
jdennis31
10.20.12 | i'm not even a big fan of blues when it comes to listening, but it's incredibly fun to play for me, and i tend to use the entire neck. not sure what makes you think blues limits you to any section of the guitar |
Dolving999
10.20.12 | ESP. A shame I could only afford a LTD guitar. |
wacknizzle
10.20.12 | I like what people like Zeppelin, Clapton, and The Allman Brothers did with blues but the blues is boring to me as well. |
HSThomas
10.20.12 | Vigier or Black Machine |
JamieTwort
10.20.12 | Few (if any) styles of guitar playing convey emotion like the blues. |
KjSwantko
10.20.12 | "blues is so fucking boring and samey, the scale is so close together you don't even have to move your hand ever"
lol. In like every mode or scale you don't need to move your hand more than half a step up or down. Post makes no sense. |
Trebor.
10.20.12 | OK you got me there, never mind |
HSThomas
10.20.12 | Blues is great when done well but a lot of it can descend into a cheesy, honky-tonky mess that a dog wouldn't even vomit up. |
Scoot
10.20.12 | schecter/jackson |
wacknizzle
10.20.12 | Like I said the progression of blues for me is where it's at. I mean does anything get better than blues in the hands of David Gilmour.
eww Scoot Schecters suck man, Jackson's are for dudes how are still stuck in 80's and waiting for Anvil to blow up. |
jdennis31
10.20.12 | i don't really listen to blues straight up, but i think it's the best mixer for any genre. cmon. trophy scars? that dude is smooth. hell or high water - as cities burn has some great blues influences there as well. |
Scoot
10.20.12 | fuck it then SQUIRE STRAT |
wacknizzle
10.20.12 | haha nice |
KjSwantko
10.20.12 | Blues is a hard form of guitar to play and make sound good. Anybody can learn various scales and how to pick efficiently, but being able to improvise with rhythm and character like of the blues is difficult to pull off. There's a lot of technical guitarists who can't play the blues well for the life of them. |
menawati
10.20.12 | fender cos they made the tele |
jdennis31
10.20.12 | yea, i played some metal for a while in my early days but i lost all my chops. feel > technicality. |
JamieTwort
10.20.12 | "There's a lot of technical guitarists who can't play the blues well for the life of them."
This hard. Blues is about the emotion first and foremost. |
menawati
10.20.12 | truth |
KjSwantko
10.20.12 | @dennis Yeah right after I posted that I changed it so just say "hard". High-level Classical is disgustingly hard. |
JamieTwort
10.20.12 | feel > technicality [2] |
ChuckyTruant
10.20.12 | Even as a metal guitarist yeah feel> technicality [3]
And lol yah scoot, shecters aren't good |
KjSwantko
10.20.12 | Agreed Jamie. I heard "Pride and Joy" in the car yesterday and this shit still blows me away. Anyone can learn play like a Jeff Loomis (who I love) with enough years of practice, but playing like Stevie just can't be taught. |
menawati
10.20.12 | classical is hard ye, mickey mouse stuff like start of The Trees is fine but when u gotta start doing that fast tremelo stuff with your right hand fingers while maintaining a melody fkin hell |
ChuckyTruant
10.20.12 | I agree. |
DominionMM1
10.20.12 | "Jackson's are for dudes how are still stuck in 80's and waiting for Anvil to blow up. "
lolwut? |
ChuckyTruant
10.20.12 | Haha no idea |
SCREAMorphine
10.20.12 | Fender.
My guitars never stay in the original form for long though. |
ChuckyTruant
10.20.12 | Frankensteining them? |
bach
10.20.12 | The good ones. |
ChuckyTruant
10.21.12 | lmao |
bloc
10.21.12 | Grrr, missed an epic thread.
Anyway, I started out on an Epiphone Les Paul, then moved to an Ibanez S, and now have a heavily modded Fender Telecaster.
I am definitely a big fan of Fender, Gretsch, Ibanez, and Caparison. Hell, I really like all guitar manufacturers.
The only thing that bugs me about some of them are the ridiculous price tags on "custom shop" models. Like, I can understand hard work went into making the thing, but 9999 for a single axe is beyond stupid. |
MalleusMaleficarum
10.21.12 | but if u have the money its like sure |
Sirob
10.21.12 | Electric: Fender (especially Telecasters) or epiphone
Acoustic: Taylor |
bloc
10.21.12 | I don't think it's wise to do it even in that case. A guitar is just wood with some electronics and strings. Any inexpensive guitar can sound and look like a million bucks in the right hands. |
MalleusMaleficarum
10.21.12 | nah man |
wacknizzle
10.21.12 | The most I'd even consider paying for a guitar is $2500. But for that I can get the best Gibson, Fender, Ibanez, the Paul Reed Smith Custom 24, and Caparison. |
ChuckyTruant
10.21.12 | yep yep yep
Unless its the Ibanez M8M, then I might splurge a bit lmao |
jdennis31
10.21.12 | "Any inexpensive guitar can sound and look like a million bucks in the right hands." werd, dunno how many gear heads i know who think they don't sound good because their guitar/amp sucks. |
jxbartonx
03.18.13 | As far as electric guitars go, It's all about the Jackson DK2M Dinky..
|
ChuckyTruant
03.18.13 | i really only play 7 strings these days |
bloc
03.18.13 | BOOOOOO |
ChuckyTruant
03.18.13 | wtf mate |

03.18.13 | Stick to the classics yo |
ChuckyTruant
03.18.13 | hell no, im not about relishing the old days, or any stuff like that
7's are best and thats my opinion |
