Yeah, it's cool. Was being sarcastic. |
ILJ
10.16.12 | actually I'm the one that added 5 in the first place.
And yes I mostly agree with this. But I've hit a plateau as of late. Don't really know what to download anymore. |
wacknizzle
10.16.12 | I agree, but also with the more music I listen to I try and put more focus on albums I haven't listened to enough. |

Right now I'm trying to climb back up from the obscure place I've been in for the past year and maybe, just maybe I'll discover something that's been praised and suits my taste. So far without succes. |
menawati
10.16.12 | short answer - yes, as long as you dont limit yourself |

10.16.12 | yeah i hate when i expand too quickly sometimes and download a bunch of shit, skim over it basically then quickly forget stuff that i really enjoyed
2much music |
WeepingBanana
10.16.12 | i go through spurts. i might go weeks with just listening to shit i have, letting it sink in better and then some days i'll d/l and listen to like 5 new albums so yeah |
menawati
10.16.12 | you can get overloaded yes, you spend more time sifting to find new things you like instead of really listening to the things you definitely like |
Chortles
10.16.12 | yeah pretty much, got a word document full of hundreds of bands i want to check out |
WeepingBanana
10.16.12 | sometimes it depresses me that no matter how hard i try i'll probably never even come close to listening to 5% of music that exists
same with reading books, watching movies/tv shows, etc |
menawati
10.16.12 | What depresses me more is that the chances of finding something that compares with what I really love is slim. |

The biggest mistake in listening to new music is that I instantly try to categorize it and compare it to my favourite band in that genre. |
Chortles
10.16.12 | haha mine isn't that crazy, but i do have it alphabetized... i find at least something to add every day
and menawati, of course it does. but when you do find something new that you love, it's like the best experience ever dude |

I'm so glad I actually sat and LISTENED to Neurosis for example earlier this year, as opposed to just
kinda spinning them in the background or whoring out one or two songs. It's surprising how relevant
their lyrics and themes are to my life currently (Eye of Every Storm in particular). My situation is
already tangibly changing thanks to them and some other bands and I would never have discovered that
if I hadn't given them that concentration. Helps that I'm actually paying attention to lyrics a hell
of a lot more these days too. Makes me wonder how many more albums there are out there waiting to have
the same effect on me, so in turn I feel compelled to seek these potential goldmines out from time to
time |
