10.13.12 | Also, forgot to mention, Great Lake Swimmers. Those guys (that guy?) know (knows?) their (his?) stuff. |
menawati
10.13.12 | 1 is ok, 2 is average and 4 was a dissapiontment |
klap
10.13.12 | better or worse than insidious |
thecheatisnotdead
10.13.12 | @men - I think my biggest gripe with 2 is that it feels a little underdeveloped, but I still think it's got more pound-for-pound standouts than I expected it to
@klap - Not as good as Insidious, in my opinion. It's fairly similar, and though it avoids the sort of over-the-top last-act ploy that Insidious uses (and the one it seems to be building to), it kind of conks out as a result |
Trebor.
10.13.12 | Carlyle from Spill.com wrote it |
Crymsonblaze
10.13.12 | Insidious rules, but I was kind of leery about this one |
thecheatisnotdead
10.13.12 | It definitely tries to recapture the Insidious magic, and while its got some genuinely creepy scenes, the overall movie doesn't really click the way that one did. |
klap
10.13.12 | insidious was really good up until the ending, i will probably see this on video |
Trebor.
10.13.12 | I like how it's literally a "found footage" film |
thecheatisnotdead
10.13.12 | @klap - Yeah, the ending's sort of goofy.
@Fourth - I don't know, I bought Hawke as that character, I was just upset that there wasn't a whole lot of progression to his role; agreed about the music as well. Added to the atmosphere a lot. |
Hyperion1001
10.13.12 | lords of salem is gonna be better |
thecheatisnotdead
10.13.12 | *Sort of spoilers* I think my personal (and probably a lot of people's) highlight was the lawnmower scene. Partly because it was one of the few legitimate jolts that wasn't already ruined by the trailer, but also because I've actually used that exact make/model of mower before. |
BloodSweatandBeers
10.13.12 | lol "horror" movies |
thecheatisnotdead
10.13.12 | You sure showed us. |
Acanthus
10.13.12 | Not surprised it wasn't terribly good. |
Turtlestlker
10.14.12 | 3 was good, better than their last one. Can agree on it being "Happier" than most of their work. |
Ignimbrite
10.14.12 | This was bette than Insidious. It didn't have a stupid third act. |
Tyler.
10.14.12 | what did you guys think of 7 psychopaths? |
Tyler.
10.14.12 | Oh well it's pretty decent actually. |
Sanders
10.14.12 | The projector reel footage was more unsettling than most crap Hollywood usually puts out. I'd agree that Insidious was better if it wasn't for that ridiculous 80's music video-esque final act |
Sanders
10.14.12 | Well no, me neither, but what I mean is it's more unsettling than most of the mainstream stuff that's come out recently |
Sanders
10.14.12 | True, but if they ramped it up any more, it would have been an 18 here rather than a 15, and it'd make next to no money. |
PistolPete
10.14.12 | i agree with this, literally just watched it
thought it was gonna fuck me up wayyyy more than it did, pretty average (story was kinda cool though) |
YoYoMancuso
10.14.12 | i think we can all agree the score was pretty damn cool though |
PistolPete
10.14.12 | man those beats...so infectious lol i left the movie thinking more about those than the story itself |
PistolPete
10.14.12 | wasn't the reason for that bc they were possessed by that boogie man dude though?
as long as there's a reason... |
PistolPete
10.14.12 | "meh. it was presented in an extremely tame way."
this, when I saw the 14A rating I was like "oh brother..." |
PistolPete
10.14.12 | insidious was the last horror movie i've watched where i was literally pissing myself, it was done so much better (plus the actors made it scarier) |
Sanders
10.14.12 | "gory films can make a ton of money. look at saw."
I'd say Saw's more or less the only exception over the last few years... There've been very few 18 certificate films on widespread release here over the last couple of years. For a film to do what Saw's done, it'd have to do something fresh like the first Saw film did. |
GnFnRs87
10.14.12 | Movie was better than Insidious. The 8 mil was indeed a genius touch and it wasn't overly reliant on jump-scares, it sorta highlighted the darkness in us all with the disdain for human life and the almost innocence with which the families are murdered. Plus it taps into that fear that someone close to you would slaughter you without a care. That in itself is some pretty fucked up horror |
PistolPete
10.14.12 | @GnFN...oh fuck I'm typing out your whole name: that's a good point, the sound of the reels added a bit to the scenes. But the ending was so predictable! |
GnFnRs87
10.14.12 | Clearly you don't think about your horror movies. Do you not find the idea of your child appearing at your door with an axe and a blank look in their eyes telling you you needed to die scary ? |
GnFnRs87
10.14.12 | Ending was predictable but then again how else could they have ended it though ? The ending was always going to be predictable, it's what came before that I was looking forward to and I personally wasn't disappointed. They managed to make a ladder and a light into a scary image and that deserves some credit in my book. Just seemed an old fashioned haunted house horror with some madness and supernatural thrown in. |
PistolPete
10.14.12 | I think we've all been tempered by the amount of horror movies with this kind of storyline (possessed child with a blank look on their face). While I agree the idea itself is scary, I watched enough that it really doesn't phase me or hit me on that kind of level bc of how used to seeing it I am. |
GnFnRs87
10.14.12 | Andcas: okay, imagine your mum or dad or brother or sister doing that then. It's still a fucking scary thought given how realistic madness and murder are. Happens all the time, other than the supernatural element the film was sorta realistic |
GnFnRs87
10.14.12 | I agree it's been done to death. Which is why I tend to stay away from the shitty looking ones. At least it's wasn't a fucking found-footage movie
Andcas: go on then. Name a real horror that scared you then. Or are you one of these elitists whose like 'I don't get scares by horror movies' while adjusting their horn-rimmed spectacles. And for your information I've probably seen more horrors than you anyway |
GnFnRs87
10.15.12 | Don't get me wrong however. It wasn't one of the best or scariest horror films I've ever seen. I just really enjoyed it and it's better than the majority of shit that passes for horror these days
Off topic has anyone seen REC ? |
ITsHxCTOASTER
10.15.12 | Well shit, I thought this was going to be about the band |
YoYoMancuso
10.15.12 | REC is incredible |
GnFnRs87
10.15.12 | YoYoMancuso: completely agree man, one of the best horror movies ever I reckon. Shame about the sequels |
