The Nostalgia List
Hello I'm the Nostalgia Cri...wait, no I'm not. I'm just a random music nerd with a list of nostalgic albums. There were other albums that influenced me back when I could still count my CDs, but these are the ones that hold a special place in my heart. |
1 | | The Beatles 1962 - 1966
1993-1994. The one that started it all. The first "real" record I ever heard. My father owned it on cassette tape, and seeing its cover brings back memories of many a car ride listening to "All My Lovin'" or "Please Please Me". 'Beatles For Sale' or the Anthology would also have a place here, but this one really was the turning point in my life. |
2 | | Nirvana Nevermind
1994-1995. If it wasn't for this album, I would not be a rocker today. Enough said. |
3 | | AC/DC '74 Jailbreak
1995-1996. The album that started my love affair with my favourite band. Show Business was my jam for years after I got it. |
4 | | Bon Jovi Crossroad
1996-ish. "YOUR LOVE IS LIKE BAAAAAD MEDICINE!" I must have worn out the tape just listening to that one song. |
5 | | Hanson Middle Of Nowhere
1996. I got this for my 11th birthday, and it was EXACTLY what I had been wanting. The rest of the album was pretty meh to me at the time, but WHO CARES?! MMMBOP'S ON IT! |
6 | | Mamonas Assassinas Mamonas Assassinas
1996-1997. When I was in sixth grade, EVERYONE listened to these Brazilian jokesters. My Mum never let me buy the album, as they were a bit vulgar, but I still knew (and sang) all the singles. Because I was too young to understand the band's juvenile sexual humour, I tended to misinterpret some of the words as more innocent things. |
7 | | Aqua Aquarium
1997. This was my jam the summer after sixth grade. Heaven knows why I never got the album, as I loved the shit out of most of the songs. Dr. Jones was a particular favourite. |
8 | | Firehouse Firehouse
1997. I got this for my twelfth birthday if I'm not mistaken, a present from an elderly aunt who'd got it through a recommendation. Rock On The Radio and Shake And Tumble became favourites soon afterwards, and Love Of A Lifetime would serve as the soundtrack for a txt-mance I had with a girl a few years later. |
9 | | The Prodigy The Fat Of The Land
1997-1998. I was agonizing over whether to purchase "Spice" or "Backstreet's Back" (yeah, really) when my Mum came up with this album. I liked the cover, and "Firestarter" was on a videogame soundtrack, so I got it instead. Mum to the rescue once again! |
10 | | Bomfunk Mc's In Stereo
1999. In the Summer of 1999, everyone at camp became obssessed with "Freestyler" - myself included. Another one I never had, but is still nostalgic nonetheless. |
11 | | The Offspring Americana
1999-2000. Albums You Had To Have In Ninth Grade, Pt. 1. Everyone loved the shit out of the singles, of course, but my true jams were Walla Walla and No Brakes. |
12 | | Green Day Dookie
1999-2000. Albums You Had To Have In Ninth Grade, Pt. 2. This one I didn't pay much attention to - aside from the singles - until years later. I mainly bought it for the singles and to look cool. I don't regret it though. |
13 | | Limp Bizkit Chocolate Starfish...
1999-2000. Albums You Had To Have In Ninth Grade, Pt. 3. I had it recorded on cassette tape off my friend's copy. Rollin' was my jam. I remember my friends and I trying to count the F-bombs on the title track. This year, I also sat next to a girl I had a crush on whose favourite song at the time was "No Sex". |
14 | | Eminem The Marshall Mathers LP
2000. Albums You Had To Have In Ninth Grade, Pt. 4. I went in for The Real Slim Shady and I stayed for Stan. My friends and I used to think the interlude on "Criminal" was the funniest thing ever. |
15 | | Slipknot Slipknot
2000. The album that got me into the heavier side of things. Once again, my Mum's work. Listening to this the first time was like being thrown against a brick wall. |
16 | | Linkin Park Meteora
2003. Why "Meteora" and not "Hybrid Theory"? Because "Meteora" was burned to CD for me by a girl, as a present of sorts - thus giving me my fondest Linkin Park memory. |
