09.26.12 | i have a party playlist but also a playlist with hipster shit I like but that is accessible to regular people, for just chilling out, driving, whatever. putting my ipod on shuffle with a group of friends would be a disaster. |

09.26.12 | I give up on trying to copy Rory Gallagher correctly. I like to provide the direct link but this one is stubborn. Just type in Rory Gallagher if your interested |

09.26.12 | shit friends = friends who won't listen to your music |
YoYoMancuso
09.26.12 | if you give them anything, it has to be entry-level. if they like it then you're golden |

09.26.12 | THE BENDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
YoYoMancuso
09.26.12 | everyone likes The Bends |
Mike08
09.26.12 | I wouldn't have many friends if i followed Ethics advice. Not many people want to listen to Death, no matter how good they are... And good point, entry level stuff first. |
Ethics
09.26.12 | lol, i was joking
but yeah.. this is a pretty good list. all of us probably go through this shit |
Chortles
09.26.12 | my roommate is basically the only person i give recs to because he gives a bunch to me and has pretty good taste. otherwise i'll give share my music with another friend if they ask for it, or if we're just talking about music, but that's pretty much it |
sniper
09.26.12 | my friends are all smart and good-looking with excellent taste in music, food and beer. |
Chortles
09.26.12 | damn |
sniper
09.26.12 | i forgot literature and film. we all have good taste in those too. |
Mike08
09.26.12 | Same principles apply to film. Unlike music though, I do have friends that LOVE film as much as I do. Film is less subjective than music, and people are engaged in film as an art more so than music. |
Ethics
09.26.12 | damn NICE @ snipe and yeah, mike i sadly agree.
music > all tho |
ViralOblivion
09.26.12 | good read man i just gave my best friend that went away to college like 4 gigs of music on a flash drive before he left. I usually like to give a couple of things outside of what they listen to also |
ZilbelPing
09.26.12 | My closest friends are really open to music so we share a lot within each other. If someone asks me for stuff, I usually ask what they like or look through their iPod and give recs based on that. It's funny, though. Quite a bit of people know I have a broad music taste so they come to me asking for stuff and I give it to them. It's kinda nice, actually.
In the car we all take turns playing music so when I put something on, it's usually something they can get into. I mostly play a lot of indie, reggae, rock, and shorter post-rock songs and they more than usually dig it.
It's kinda sweet being open about music with your friends. Hell, I've even got my mom into a few stuff. |

09.27.12 | That's mildly depressing, Yankee. |

09.27.12 | I play a song for friends and they either go back to Eminem or LMFAO. |

09.27.12 | Nah my friends and roommates like/liked good stuff but they just arent into much extreme metal. Not many people are. Ive come to find that people usually dig music much more if they discover it themselves than if somebody shows them it for some reason. I can show em a band and they'll be like "meh", but then a month later they'll stumble across them on their own and they fuckin love it. Its weird. I guess stuff that isnt 100% accessible with verse-chorus catchy structures just take time to grow on you. And its not even like its some crazy underground shit either. |
someguest
09.27.12 | People don't like to work at things. It takes work to get into extreme metal. You could argue it takes years, even. |
ZilbelPing
09.27.12 | Well I started listening to metal about 6 years and I'm just now getting into extreme metal, if you're using the "extreme" tag to describe deathmetal, sludgemetal, black metal, and other similar sub-genres that is. |
someguest
09.27.12 | Exactly. It takes work. People don't get it. |
ZilbelPing
09.27.12 | Okay then yeah, I agree because you definitely can't jump into stuff like that and like it. |
YankeeDudel
09.27.12 | Yea it took me a little while too. One day it just sorta clicks but you have to want to get into it. |
sniper
09.27.12 | i listened to metallica/anthrax/slayer when i was 12-13 and then listened to literally no metal at all for about 7 years and then started listening to black and death bands and now i listen to a healthy amount of extreme metal. i have one friend who is into exclusively death metal but all my other friends are into all kinds of indie/hipster bands or hip-hop. they all do have good taste though, i wasn't kidding. |
SeaAnemone
09.27.12 | I just absolutely avoid talking to my friends about music whatsoever besides the quality of popular or house or dance music.
oh and fuck you country is okay |
Trebor.
09.27.12 | I got lots of friends into music hard yeah |
sniper
09.27.12 | radio country is awful don't even pretend it's not. my friends are all into minus the bear and kendrick lamar and animal collective and shit idk why you people's friends are so lame. the bay area has a lot of people like that in it though. i have a fair number of friends into good hardcore too, even one into emo/skram. |
SeaAnemone
09.27.12 | eh in my experience good music taste =/= cool people, actually the opposite... I only have like one friend who I can talk to about music and choose to do so very sparingly on purpose and he's a hipster so |
SeaAnemone
09.27.12 | oh and radio country is awesome but only for summer days and drinking |
someguest
09.27.12 | so all music elitists are jerks?
whew... |
ViralOblivion
09.27.12 | Pretty much me and my friends all love the same shit I like hip hop more than some of my closest friends but they like it too just not as much but my friends got me into bands like neurosis and converge and btbam and old darkest hour back when I was in junior high and we still all jam those bands all the time |
sniper
09.27.12 | my friends are probably what you'd call typical bay area hipster types. asian kids into hip hop, everyone else into alt/indie-rock and hip hop, a couple kids into hardcore, etc. we still get down to party music at parties y'know, but there's more to life than listening to radio pop.
also, radio country fucking blows. |
apert
09.27.12 | all my friends just listen to the most generic mainstream rock like Muse, MCR and 30 seconds to Mars. A couple of guys even said they genuinely liked one direction. I jammed Machine Head once at school and it was not well received so i've pretty much given up hope on them |
apert
09.27.12 | they were all like "its just noise, and he's just shouting" |

09.27.12 | I played Refused in music class my freshman year of college and everyone looked scared.
Lol. |
SeaAnemone
09.27.12 | I don't really have any friends that would consider listening to music as a hobby
but like I'll jam Frank Ocean or Japandroids when we're playing FIFA and nobody complains
it's the kids that are all into music but still have shit taste that annoy me |
SeaAnemone
09.27.12 | "I played Refused in music class my freshman year of college and everyone looked scared."

09.27.12 | Sharing music with people who don't already know a good amount is pretty hard, like explaining emo and screamo to someone damn |
someguest
09.27.12 | and that's awesome sniper |

09.27.12 | it doesn't even have anything to do with dystopias is the thing. |

09.27.12 | "like explaining emo and screamo to someone damn"
Oh man, I've tried to do that so many times. |
RunOfTheMill
09.27.12 | I tried to explain the appeal of black metal and thrash metal to a girl once, and she actually got it, albeit it was probs not her thing. Otherwise, I've gotten some friends into music I like, but that was on the basis that I already knew what music they were into. Cool list, man, I'm liking this discussion. |

09.27.12 | i always forget people don't know what those things mean and then i'm on yahoo answers and see this shit:

I've been listening to metal for less than two years. The first time I listened to black metal, I literally laughed. I couldn't understand how it could be taken seriously. A month later, I had a dozen bm album on my iPod :P |

09.27.12 | "I give up on trying to copy Rory Gallagher correctly"
if you edit a list then you permanently lose the artwork of any albums with punctuation in either the album title or artist name.. it's a stupid site glitch, so yeah, you can't get the artwork for 1 ever unless you remake the list. |

09.27.12 | i recommend music by telling them theyre going to listen to andrew jackson jihad and theyre going to like it thats it agreed |
