evilford 09.19.12	Nirvana is slightly overrated, yes, but it has a lot to do with Cobain's suicide. I'm not personally a huge fan, but I can mostly understand their iconic status. Foo Fighters on the other hand I can totally see being completely overrated. I like Dave Grohl for the most part, but I think their music at this point is just being churned out to be played on the radio and be forgotten in 5 years.

evilford 09.19.12	there's a difference between well-written rock, and well-written radio rock. I enjoy a bit of FF's older material. I have heard most of their newer stuff (from the last 10 years or so) and I don't care for it at all. seems to lack anything meaningful or interesting. I might enjoy one of their songs I hear once or twice but after that I don't want to hear it again. I also caught part of a set of a live show that contained mostly new material, I wanted to hurl.

Shiduba 09.19.12	A7X and Oasis agreed, Nirvana is great but yeah a bit overrated also. The Beatles are definitely not overrated as they had an insane influence in music in general, and were awesome. Also Foo Fighters is pretty much one of my favorite rock bands today and Dave Grohl is fucking awesome so I don't agree with that one either. If a good band is very popular compared to some other good band, I don't think the first one is overrated, I think the latter one is underrated.

It's easy to look at things now and say that it wouldn't be too different without some rock band that was big in the 60's and 70's, but overall I think we'd be in a way different place musically today without them and the trajectory they placed on popular music and rock at the time. and like I said, they rule too. jmo.

It's not a matter of whether or not you like their songs, it comes down to the influence, innovation and shear ingenuity of the vast body of work they put together in under 10 years. YankeeDudel 09.19.12	Influence is all part of the package. Obviously the music comes first but influence and originality is very important to me also. You cant get anymore of that than The Beatles. Most of the biggest bands in every genre/subgenre are the ones who pioneered it. Its that way for a reason because those bands created the whole sound in the first place. They laid the whole formula down. Its up to later bands to put their own spin on what the pioneers did.
