Top Albums Of 1980

I have a feeling this decade is going to be dominated with more metal than I'd care to admit
10Motorhead
Ace of Spades
9David Bowie
Scary Monsters
8 Peter Gabriel
Peter Gabriel 3
7Dead Kennedys
Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables

DK's best release hands down, one of the better hardcore punk albums I've heard.
6Rush
Permanent Waves

Really good album by Rush featuring some of their most popular songs. Spirit of the Radio rocks.
5Black Sabbath
Heaven and Hell

I don't really care for about half of this album. But the half I do care for is so good that I decided to rate it this high. The title track might be one of hte best metal songs ever written.
4Tom Waits
Heartattack and Vine

Tom Waits gradually making the shift from bluesy songs about depression to quirky songs about, uh, well that's a good question. The title track of this album is absolutely killer and he still retains some of the blues and jazz influence in songs like Downtown and Jersey Girl.
3Joy Division
Closer

I was never as big a fan of this album as I was Unknown Pleasures until I started listening to it with a friend of mine and we both fell in love with it. Even bleaker than the first album, I find the only thing that hurts this album is that it's too drawn out in certain places.
2The Police
Zenyatta Mondatta

The Police hit another home run with Zenyatta Mondatta. A fast paced album, this album delivered fantastic singles, but also had a lot of other great overlooked tracks like Canary in a Coalmine. Stewart Copeland is a genius.
1Iron Maiden
Iron Maiden

Iron Maiden is one of my favourite bands of all time, and their self title has always ranked very highly on my list of their albums. I'm pretty sure I preferred it to all their other material at one time. There's only one bad song on this album, Remember Tomorrow, and it's bad because Paul Di'Anno is trying way to hard to hit notes he can't reach. Other than that, like Breakfast in America, every song on this album could have been a hit, and most are classics.
