| Top Albums Of 1979 | 10 | | Ron Carter Third Plane
With a lineup like this, it's hard not to give this a spot in the top 10. A fantastic fusion album backed by a very exceptional rhythm section. | 9 | | Motorhead Overkill
My favourite Motorhead album of the four they released with their 'classic' lineup (and probably my favourite period). | 8 | | Frank Zappa Sheik Yerbouti
Zappa's best selling record, this is mostly a straight across rock album and typically recommended for first time FZ listeners. | 7 | | Frank Zappa Orchestral Favorites
Zappa's classical music I find gets lost a bit in the breadth of his other work. That said, it's all really good. Especially Strictly Genteel, which might be my favourite song of his. This album contains one of my favourite renditions of said song. | 6 | | The Police Reggatta de Blanc
All 5 Police albums are probably going to make my lists somehow. I love their sound. I find this one to be a little less, uh, punky I guess might be an appropriate word than Outlandos, but that's okay because that leads to tracks like Walking on the Moon. | 5 | | Frank Zappa Sleep Dirt
This is an album by Zappa I didn't realize was as good as it was until just last year. This album is fantastic fusion. The Ocean is the Ultimate Solution might be on of the best tracks Zappa ever wrote. | 4 | | Pink Floyd The Wall
I listened to this album lots when I was younger, and I still love it. It doesn't quite have the same effect, but songs like Young Lust, Comfortably Numb, Nobody Home, Hey You, and more make this one of the most classic albums ever made. | 3 | | Frank Zappa Joe's Garage
This is the year of Zappa. Maybe his most accessible fusion album, this double album tells the hilarious story of Joe and his quest for happiness. Zappa's best guitar moment, Watermelon in Easter Hay, is featured on Part 3. | 2 | | Joy Division Unknown Pleasures
Bleak is the only word to describe this album. Absolutely spirit crushingly bleak. I swear, Day of the Lords is heavier than most metal. | 1 | | Supertramp Breakfast in America
I'm not sure how Supertramp was able to release two such good albums in Breakfast in America and Crime of the Century, and then release virtually nothing else worth listening to. Oh well, this one tops my list which says a lot because I really love every album on here. There's just not a song that couldn't be considered a hit on this album, it's unbelievable. It's like they had been hoarding away all these good songs and then decided to release them all in one shot. | |

09.07.12 | 9 is good but I just really can't get into motorhead. | ViperAces
09.07.12 | OVERKILL! | Chortles
09.07.12 | same here. i've only listened to ace of spades and it was pretty good, not really my thing though | Atari
09.07.12 | Ya I like overkill I gave it a 4 just haven't felt the need to dig into the rest of their discography. | menawati
09.07.12 | Well, they did a song called 'Killed By Death' which is worth listening to for the chorus where Lemmy sings 'Killed by Death' | Chortles
09.07.12 | i generally like metal from the era but there was something about motorhead idk really | BlindHouse
09.07.12 | I respect them and all, but I watched a stream of Motorhead at Rock in Rio and it all kind of sounds the same. Love Overkill and Ace of Spades though. Gotta check out more Zappa, only heard a few songs. Nice list. | Atari
09.07.12 | I'm thinking they're an acquired taste and I just haven't listened to them enough. I actually really liked bastards though. | ViperAces
09.07.12 | Check out their debut, really fun album. | Atari
09.07.12 | @Viper, I will eventually lol. Still listening to that tourniquet album and Rainbow's 3rd album is next on my list. | menawati
09.07.12 | well imo atari 'Ace of Spades' is better than overkill so check at least that one out, it's actually
got some great hard rock songs on it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DlFmL2WFZzA | Atari
09.07.12 | @menawati, ok thanks I'll check it out later. | Cghost
09.07.12 | All Motorhead does sound the same for the most part. I dig them and all, but it's pretty much constant rehash. Overkill has a few more memorable songs than their other albums, that's why I included it. Ditto for Ace of Spades on my list for the 80's. | Cghost
09.07.12 | I have like 14 Motorhead albums and I don't know why. It's like owning 14 AC/DC albums. | BlindHouse
09.07.12 | Haha, alright, I guess I'll check out Overkill at some point then. | ViperAces
09.07.12 | AcDC is for hipsters. Motorhead is cool. |
