Top Albums Of 1972
Gonna have to go up to 20 pretty soon! |
| 10 | | Yes Close to the Edge
It was between this and Genesis' 'Foxtrot'. Could have went either way. However, I've always liked Yes more than Genesis, and I think this album is a bit more solid musically. |
| 9 | | Freddie Hubbard Sky Dive
This one isn't quite as good as the some of the stuff he released while on his colossal run of albums from 66-70, but his cover of The Godfather theme is well worth the listen. |
| 8 | | Charles Mingus Let My Children Hear Music
Mingus with another high quality release, this is amongst the best Third Stream albums ever made. |
| 7 | | Emerson, Lake & Palmer Pictures at an Exhibition
I'm a big fan of Pictures at an Exhibition to begin with, so having ELP do it was magnificent. |
| 6 | | David Bowie The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
I'm sure I can't say anything about this album that hasn't already been said. It's my favourite Bowie album. |
| 5 | | Pink Floyd Obscured By Clouds
I've always thought of this album as one of Pink Floyd's best, even though I think I'm in the minority. I don't know what it is, there's something about it that gets me every time. The riffs are memorable and it doesn't seem to drag at any point. |
| 4 | | Steely Dan Can't Buy a Thrill
I think this is the most poppy of this group's work, that said I think it might be their best. Super laid back, this album flows fantastically. |
| 3 | | Frank Zappa Waka/Jawaka
My second favourite of Zappa's fusion records. 'Big Swifty' is basically Zappa playing Bitches Brew, which is absolutely mind blowing. |
| 2 | | Frank Zappa The Grand Wazoo
Maybe my favourite Zappa fusion record, this one has it all. Fantastic performances and genius song writing, the three song run of 'The Grand Wazoo', 'Cleetus Awreetus - Awrightus' and 'The Big Question' can't be beat. |
| 1 | | Black Sabbath Black Sabbath Vol. 4
Black Sabbath is about the best band in the world, and this is my second favourite release of theirs. Super heavy, Bill Ward is at his groovy best, and aside from a couple brain farts (FX and Changes), every song is absolutely fantastic. |
