Everything Is Stagnating.

Is it me, or does anyone else feel like things in the art field are totally stagnating? We're not pushing things much further as a whole anymore, it seems. You know, the big box-office films are the same thing over and over again, and so much so lately that they've been doing remakes. Music genres are starting to solidify to a state of absolute predictability. Even art has been kinda hurting lately, I've noticed. The "abstract" is almost contrived and normal. Books are becoming the same. Hey, even a raunchy porn book like Fifty Shades of Grey can't even try to break new ground, even though it already tries to be racy, it just copies Twilight. I'm not saying that everything is this way, of course, mainly just the big names, the most noticeable films, books, art, etc. I kind of feel like mainstream society has stopped trying to push themselves to new boundaries, and it's growing more evident. Maybe it's just me. List is genres that I think have (for the most part) grown pretty stagnant over the years. I am, of course, not saying this is the case for EVERY band in these genres, but it seems to be the case for a lot of them.
1Explosions in the Sky
Take Care, Take Care, Take Care

The posterchild of modern post-rock also has relaxed too much into an old, coffee-stained armchair. So many bands in the post-rock genre copy the soft-long build-background riff-explosion climax-soft formula that has been tried and true by these Texans. Not to say it's not executed nicely, but it's getting old.
2White Lies
Ritual

Indie. Oh yes. Indie. It seems to be the same a lot of the time these days. Of course, Indie can be defined as even groups like Local Natives used to be, totally unsigned and doing whatever they wanted. But, Indie in terms of the coffee-shop laiden, hipster adored, feel good psuedo-pop, it's the same thing over and over again. Kind of retro instrumentation, some guy with a smooth, croony voice, or a more tenor voice in some regards, singing over the same general song structure. Again, it gets old. Also, there's always that one guitar ballad, every time.
3Burzum
Umskiptar

Black metal. Now, I know that the majority of Sputnik loves black metal. I have nothing against it, and I love it actually. I wish it kept evolving, but it seems to be getting sort of old as well, sticking to the tried and true lo-fi recordings, howling vocals, and synths. I'm not saying this is bad it's just that nobody is really capitalizing on it anymore, or at least, the bigger black metal bands are kind of settling to a lull. I mean, come on Varg, you spent time in prison and murdered someone, you gotta have something up your sleeve.
Regardless, m/
