08.30.12 | Yeah I know right?
Watched Mr. Nobody last night. That was a bloody fantastic film, though. But again, it was out of the limelight as far as I know. |

08.30.12 | I dunno. I agree and at the same time don't. I feel we've just now got a foundation for our art to bounce off of.
I don't think it has become more generic and predictable but that the structure of everything we create has been invented and we just jump from that structure but I don't think things are entirely unoriginal by any means.
The problems is we've had decades of art and humans have to garnish inspiration from somewhere. |

08.30.12 | Dude, look to electronic and ambient music for innovation. That's one thing I've been doing lately. |
LudsWig
08.30.12 | "look to electronic and ambient music for innovation"
I disagree. Electronic and ambient are stagnant too and a lot of them sound the same or are average to utterly boring.
Looking into other genre doesn't solve the problem of per say metal dm or bm being stagnant. there's still some good music coming out nowadays but most people don't know how to find it. |
Yuli
08.30.12 | There are so many types of electronic music, though. While we have brostep producers mimicking each other, we've got musicians putting together something new entirely behind the scenes - and it's all because it's terrain we've only slightly tread. |
LudsWig
08.30.12 | I understand what you mean. And I have to confess I'm not completely versed in all things electronic. Would be able to kindly recommend any electronic albums you feel are groundbreaking or essential to the futherance of musics offerings?... |

I agree. I many times have had to go to "undergound" sources to reap. |

08.30.12 | Saw this title and thought you meant life, which is kinda how I feel. All i can say is find a new genre of music to listen to. If you've never liked emo, try it. Or folk-punk, go for it. You'll get bored if you only listen to one or two genres. Expand your horizons |

this has been going on for a couple decades. i get annoyed when people talk about art stagnating. its no better or worse than it was ten years ago. we still have shitty shit and we still have good shit, there was never a golden era. |

I'm definitely not the best person to ask, because I'm just now starting to delve into it all. But some albums in particular that strike me particularly innovative:
Secede - Bye Bye Gridlock Traffic
Clubroot - III - MMXII
Noisia - Split the Atom
Baths - Cerulean |

08.30.12 | Thats why Ive been listening to much more avant garde/experimental music lately. Im kind of bored of the same ol shit and I dont know how people can listen to the same band 500 times. I mean if you love the genre great but once I become accustomed to a genre and know what to expect I have to change it up to keep my sanity. |
StrangerofSorts
08.30.12 | "Dude, look to electronic and ambient music for innovation."
2 and 3 and 4 and |
YankeeDudel
08.30.12 | But yea electronic music does seem like the freshest genre to me. Alot of it is meh to me but some of it really sounds cool. You can make any sound known to man electronically. I still love a live band over some dude pressin buttons on stage, but I dont know where else music can go now other than just more sub-sub-subgenres. I made a list about this months ago asking what the future of music was, and nobody seemed to really know. We'll have to wait for someone to shake things up. |
StrangerofSorts
08.30.12 | There's also the point that if you're going to confine music to genres then the stagnation is inevitable. It's like complaining that all the numbers between 306583910000 and 306583920000 have been used up therefore all the other numbers are close to being used up too. Think of genres as styles that are being padded out. You can only pad things out so much but think of the possible amount of styles there could be. |

The years have come to this--an improper art form.

The old days seem shit and primitive...
Abduction... control... you write for me. Oh, master...
Master of the machines...
Take this shit and make it gold. Make my face sparkle with fame...
Master of the machines...
Fuck them hard and neglect their thoughts...
They will never see us coming...
No more human voice...
No more human actions...
Imperfect fucks stand in the dark.
Crush us. Over and over again...
The years have come to this--an improper art form.
Faking our own thoughts and sounds...
Robots crush...
Death of human-music.
Counteract this idea of control...

Finally discovering the idea of perfect harmony...
This is the day we finally make beautiful notes again...
But we will never realize...
A situation so far dead...
Make this a war...
Blood fills the sky...
Drop the deadly dive-bomb...
The end of this outside life.
We will find art again. |
YankeeDudel
08.30.12 | Exactly Stranger. Bands should not have the mindset "We want to be a post-rock or death metal or hardcore or pop punk or (insert any genre) group". Because the second you do that you just become another derivative band in a sea of derivative bands. True artists should be trying to create something new. Something their own. Even if its just a small tweak. |

08.31.12 | MY MUSIC AND ART TRANSCENDS STAGNATION |
North0House2
08.31.12 | I'm not saying all music or art is stagnant. Lol, it was mentioned multiple times. I haven't listened to really anything conventional in a long, long, time.
My main point with this list is that I just feel like everybody is sort of settling in too much, there aren't these huge boundary pushes anymore like there were back in the past 4 decades. It's like, we advanced to this point, and now a lot of people don't want to advance anymore. That's all I was saying.
Never said art is dead. |
