08.16.12 | Meh, I took APs Chem, Calc, Eng. Lang, US History with Honors Span 4 and physics (didn't take AP til 12th), in addition to running Track.
It wasn't too bad. If you didn't do something past your limit, you'll be fine. In my case, I slacked off majorly in classes like Span4 and Calculus (which came easy for me) to focus more on US/Lang (with tough graders for teachers) and I ended up with straight A's, as well as PRing in Track. It's really about prioritizing your classes. If you have an 85 in the class with three weeks off, no point studying for the final since your grade's set. Also, I didn't waste my time getting wasted or high. I didn't have time for that, and I'm glad since I'm going to university on a full scholarship as a result. |

08.16.12 | btw silentpotato is right about community college but beware: a few kids older than me I've talked to going to JC's have similar ideas, and then they realize they can't just turn it on (slacking's been so ingrained in them).
On the other hand, I know some fairly smart slackers who dicked around in high school and got their shit together in community college. One (my cousin) is going to UCLA on their honors program; the other is going to Berkeley. For comparison, one of my friends with a 4.28 (9-12) and 2310 SAT score didn't get into either.
Another benefit of junior college is that the professors aren't just there for research (like most undergrad professors are) so many people have told me the JC teach better than their university equivalents.
The key is, you really have to focus on getting straight A's. You don't get second chances after that. Honestly though, I'd recommend going to university the normal way, if money isn't a problem. You're missing out on the college experience (dorming and shit) if you don't go to university. |
