Iamthe Nightstars 08.13.12	These are all pretty much average/beginner guitars. If it's a new guitar you're getting and you have 3 grand you might as well spend more money and get something that sounds really good and lasts longer.

liledman 08.13.12	To a large extent, it's about how you use your gear. You can get "heavy" sounds and shoegaze sounds out of a pretty basic set-up, you just need to know what you are doing with it. My advice, get whatever les paul copy you want, as long as it's in good condition. Play it a bit first, and see whether you are happy with the pick-ups. If not, chuck in whatever Duncans you feel suit you. EMGs and other active pick-ups can be severely limiting, so be careful choosing. I have an Ibanez ARC100 with Duncans (JB + Jazz) and it's pretty damn good for the cheap guitar it is. Better than my friends $3000 Les Paul Custom, by my account and his.

eternium 08.13.12	If I changed pickups would I be able to keep the covers on the new ones? I want to keep them on because it looks a lot better than with the actual black humbuckers themselves, which I sometimes see on guitars people changed pickups on. I don't know if that makes sense or not.

Sounds like I could do this with the RV-3 plus the Carbon Copy if I get one. I really like the thicker shoegaze sound that Lovesliescrushing and Medicine gets.
liledman 08.13.12	As long as the covers fit the humbuckers, yes. Hype I've never played a Les Paul I liked, it always amazes me that people fork out so much for them (though we do get continually ripped off in Australia).

BlueW 08.13.12	I run a Telecaster 72 Deluxe Reissue, I can't tell you how much it rules. It's tone is close in range to that of a Gibson Les Paul with a Fender twang.

oWhoadYo 08.13.12	I play a Stratocaster with Billy Corgan dimarzio pickups in it A lot. I also play an Epiphone SG with Dimarzio super distortions in it and an Eastwood Hi-Flyr. All three are excellent guitars. My amp is a Laney AOR 50, pro tube lead head. It has to be one of the distorted amps on the planet. It's absolutely insane how much gain there is. It's also got Hi, Mid and bass boost push/pulls on it. Truly an awesome amp. Despite it's Insane gain channel, it has some beautiful sparkly cleans with tons of headroom. I'd look for one of those. It's crazy.

oWhoadYo 08.13.12	I play A lot of different stuff really. I play Alt. Rock, Stoner Doom Metal, Sludge Metal, Shoegaze, Stoner Rock, Grunge, Drone, Post - Punk and Alt. Metal. To be honest, it does it all flawlessly. It suits my band perfectly. We primarily Play Really Distorted Fuzzed out Alternative Sludge Metal/Rock with Shoegaze and Stoner/Psychedelic elements.

R6Rider 08.13.12	Or you could get an Engl Fireball for $1700 and an ESP LTD Eclipse for about $800. I own an Engl Powerball 2 and ESP Eclipse with EMG's and the sound is just massive.
bloc 08.13.12	1 3 and 5 are fuckin' nice. For Teles, I have one of the new models, the American Special. Claimed to be made in America but it doesn't have the price that comes with one. Comes with Texas Special single coils too. Alnico 5's so they're not weak, but not super hot either. Best guitar I've ever played really.
