| Who Is The Big Fifth Of Thrash?
Exodus, whose influence has been huge, have complained in the past that they should be considered as the big fifth , while at one point Testament almost reached the commercial heights of the big 4. So who is it gonna be? | 1 | | Exodus Bonded By Blood
The high: Prbably the most influential album to come from a band outside the big four. Vicious, aggressive and full of impossible riffs, Bonded By Blood is an early lesson in thrash violence. CHECK ALSO: Fabulous Disaster | 2 | | Testament The New Order
The high: Combines the dark aesthetics of their debut with a new found (and now trademark) thrashy catchiness, includes straight forward riffing with stunning leads and, simply put, Chuck Billy. CHECK ALSO: Practice what you Preach | 3 | | Exodus Impact is Imminent
The low: sure, more good friendly violent fun, but no (good) songs at all, only generic thrash. | 4 | | Testament Demonic
The low: most of Testament's albums are of a high quality, this one however lacks inspiration and Chuck's one dimensional death growls don't really help | 5 | | Exodus Exhibit B: the human condition
The present: Gary holt is in good form, the riffs are top notch once again, Exodus is a well oiled killing machine, however their best is well behind them | 6 | | Testament Dark Roots of Earth
The present: A heavenly line-up, a very consistent record which combines the best elements of their long career (catchy groovers-aggressive thrashers-leads that slay and simply put Chuck Billy) Testament finally seem to be getting the respect that they deserve. | |

07.29.12 | Exodus and Testament are both worthy. I would however argue Testament deserve it more because their output is arguably better, more influential, and consistent. | owen
