07.16.12 | 5 albums a day? That's kiddie shit |
Applebite
07.16.12 | Yeah, it's like channel surfing. Always thinking that there's something else on that's 10x better than what you're watching. So you look for it, and maybe you don't find anything.
Sometimes it feels so irrational.

BirthRite
07.16.12 | " 5 albums a damn day"
try more like 50
was on bandcamp last night and went through 72 pages of recent metal with about 6 bands per page so thats umm,... 432 bands. on some i would only listen to one song or the first few moments of it and realize it's not my thing, I'm just really bumbed that we have all these artist out there who are writing terrible music |
luschlotz
07.16.12 | time well spent. I truly believe that |
BirthRite

07.16.12 | 100% with you, BRite. It's especially enraging when you can't find what you're looking for. I usually spend one day a week getting new albums and discovering new bands and then listening to them all over the next few days. I find maybe 2 good things every week then I repeat the whole process again. You're right, it's an addiction. |
YankeeDudel
07.16.12 | Its definitely an addiction. A fun addiction but an addiction. Before I joined this site I would really take my time with a new
album or band. Really get to know them inside and out. Id only listen a couple new albums a week.
Ever since I joined here Ive been listening to 5+ new albums a day which is a fuckin lot. Just trying to "keep up", and yet
compared to some here thats nothing somehow. I dont know how you guys do it. How do you really get to know an album
if you only listen to it once or twice? And how do you find the time to return to those albums if you're listening to 10 new
albums a day? It doesnt make sense. It seems like an ego thing. Music isnt a race.
|
KjSwantko
07.16.12 | @ Yankee, gotta strive to be elite and knowledgeable. |
NightProwler
07.16.12 | Go four months back, and I was in this "craving-for-better-music" rut.

MO
07.16.12 | "How do you really get to know an album if you only listen to it once or twice?"
exactly
I see absolutely no point in listening to that many albums on a daily basis |
YankeeDudel
07.16.12 | Always wanting more and more and more. Never being satisfied. Always thinking you dont have enough. You just HAVE to listen to every album in existence. This is no different than being addicted to material objects. Thinking you will find happiness with more jewelry or clothes, or friends. Its like those people on facebook that have 10,000 friends but only truly know 10. More isnt merrier sometimes. Slow down and take your time. If your sole purpose for listening to music is to impress some "elite" (more ego bullshit) anonymous people on the internet you're doing it wrong. |
Weesnaw
07.16.12 | Agreed. I really wish i could be just be satisfied with my current library |
KjSwantko
07.16.12 | The point is finding stuff you like. I listen to most stuff twice, I rate it, and if its less than like a 4 I delete it and keep going. Over time I come back and re-listen to stuff I liked and eventually became familiar with it all. |
MO
07.16.12 | "gotta strive to be elite and knowledgeable"
see that would work if people could listen to lets say 50 albums a day and then if they get asked about a particular song or passage from whatever album they could answer it with some insight
I highly doubt you could listen to that much music and absorb all of it well |
YankeeDudel
07.16.12 | "exactly
I see absolutely no point in listening to that many albums on a daily basis"
Yea Ive been taking more time lately. Ive found a lot of amazing music since i joined here dont get it twisted, but it doesnt mean anything if I only listen to it a few times. It just doesnt feel right to me. I mean you dont go to an art museum and run through it. You take your time with each piece. Music should be no different. |
YoYoMancuso
07.16.12 | the best is at work I can find entire albums on youtube which is a frickin' life saver

KjSwantko
07.16.12 | "see that would work if people could listen to lets say 50 albums a day and then if they get asked about a particular song or passage from whatever album they could answer it with some insight"
But it's a nice feeling when people are talking about stuff and you've at least got some familiarity with it and can converse about it. |
NightProwler
07.16.12 | I agree with KJSwantko. If something's terrible (i.e. Mylo Xyloto), you don't listen to it multiple times. But if it's worth your while after the first time you hear it (yeah, say a rating of 3,5 or 4), I'll keep listening to it. |
Emyay
07.16.12 | I am lucky to work at a place where I can listen to my ipod on my speakers all day while I'm at my desk. I listen to about 5-6 albums a day since thats about the amount of time I'm at my desk. Yes I'm always trying to find new albums in an almost addiction sorta way. I do believe that you need a lot of time with certain albums which is why I always go back and check older ones out again. If it means I don't get to hear newer music as often as other folks. So be it. I feel like I'll get to it eventually. I get a lot of new albums on a regular basis, but it often takes me forever to actually listen to. For some reason it takes me a really long time with most music for me to tell whether I actually like it. For instance, for the longest time (I'm talking years) I never understood the hype behind TMV- De-Loused. A few months ago it finally clicked, and I listened to it so much and I still love it. It's times like those that have me continually searching. |
Blackbelt54
07.16.12 | Yeah I agree it is an addiction. I'm taking a break from rating albums for a little while, which helps me focus on what I have a bit more. I always think about all the hundreds of albums I've been meaning to listen to, and I try to download as much as possible. Even if it is an addiction, there aren't really any terrible effects from it, and I think that everyone has something they fall back on and do all the time. Better than doing drugs or something, right? And I think it would feel bad to say "Dude I jammed a lot of (x-band) in college, did you?" "Well no, but I had intended to check them out that whole time" |
Emyay
07.16.12 | I'm listening to that Burzum album right now as a result of this list. Its another one that I've listened to before, but don't really have an opinion. All I know is that this dude's vocals are intense! Talk about pained. |
deepintheorchard
07.16.12 | Addiction is the right word. Sometimes I get so frustrated when I'm sifting through pages and pages and pages of bullshit looking for something original. The only downside to this disease we have is that a lot probably don't even listen to most of the music we download. |
ILikeRepetitiveMusic
07.16.12 | It's a beautiful addiction. I much prefer the stages of obsessively pursuing music to no end rather than the stages where you're just in a musical rut and can't seem to find anything that feels new or exciting to you |
bakkermaarten007
07.16.12 | That's exactly me, I wouldn't know what to do anyways with my boring life. There's only so much things you can do. But it's really frustrating though, the better the bands you find the harder it is to enjoy new music imo. Sometimes it seems like I've already found the best and there's nothing left to discover, yet there are some great bands among my discoveries that I didn't give enough attention. |

yeah bro, im a dude for sure, we we're like maybe like 9 at the time or younger can't really remember but my mom's friends children was my and my older brother's friends. I'm one of two and so we're they. So we're friends for years before the incident too. I've never told anyone but anyways we we're at a sleepover at their house when the younger of the siblings who's my age showed me some magazines. pretty nice i must say, anyways that night which we were on bunkbeds, we on the bottom and my older brother and the other other older brother on the top bunk. so yeah the fag who obvs was obsessed with porn and acts forced my head down and ill stop there so yeah, never told anyone before, sucks and i forgot about it for the longest and later in life id say about within the last year or so ive been thinking about it a lot and was mad at first but came to terms. it's funny how we shut things outta our minds ya know yankee |

yeah i've smoked weed for almost 10 years and had sex with about 15 gals but when i look back on it the sex was nice i wont' deny even more than nice but it left me with a mindset that shows a lack of respect for women and now im just trying to fight my immoral emotions since im married now
I mean even today at work i was looking at some chick in a sexual but im married so i should not be doing that, plus i have a son now and i wanna be a good example to him.
as far as weed it makes me lazy and i need to get a six pack asap so i need the focus and i felt it was messing with my relationship with god too so i just cold quite after my resolve was great enough |
KjSwantko

I wasn't molested, but at a very young age- let's say the playing doctor went a little too far- I had an experience which fucked me up pretty good. Later on another one ( when I was 15). I think that's where my intimacy problems come from and why I avoid relationships. |

Thanks for sharing Bakker, yeah it's crazy how common it is. So it sound like someone was playing dr you mentioned and crazy it happened twice. In the end, there's a lot of people out there who have to live with the thoughts of worse things than that. We have a choice in life to either progress and not and although only you can truly relate to your own specific situation I wanna tell you man that it'll be ok and you just have to be honest and truthful like you are now and I'm sure you'll find a chick who will like/love you for you which is more important than anything else. See it on the bright-side, at least you're not out there picking up all these nasty chicks nowadays with all those nasty diseases ya know? Consider it something good that you can actually utilize a mindset that is not hasty for a quick relationship. Work towards something greater bro and I guarantee if you can share your deepest feeling with a chick and she will still want you, then you've prolly found a potential wife bro. I'm not sure how old you are or what your goals are in life but whatever you do be honest like you are now and damn if there is a God[which i believe there is] may be bless the f outta you man!! If you stay true bro you'll def a have a good life and who knows maybe if there is a paradise in the future we can meet in person and we'll be like member that time when we talking all personal on that music website, and you'll be like hell yeah that was cool and now check out my lady. bro if that happened id just cry instantly |

"Now I know why Birthrite became a Christian"
@yankee - haha well maybe that was part of it but honestly here's my story. It was during my partying days and we were leaving a party and i had just dropped off a couple of drunk people at their houses in my crappy ford explorer, and i was just driving in the foothills of ventura and was like "there's got to be more to life than this" and was kinda getting mad and directed towards God at the time and for some reason this calming feeling came over me and I rec'd an uncontrollable urge to just read the bible. So i went home and grabbed a bible. and happen to open it up to the book of Ecclesiastes and i read it from beginning to end. it's not that long but besically it was written by king solomom who was king davids son. king solomon basically rec'd wisdom from god and the book mainly talk about vanities and striving after the wind and it really made me realize that everything in life is pointless unless your serving God as the it ends by saying the whole obligation of man is to serve God. So it went from there and I never refused to believe the lies that most churches preach nowadays, I passionately read and read until I felt whole and long story short here i am today. |

all those peeps who impose their beliefs on other are doing it wrong. Not even God did that per the what the bible says. I try to serve God according to what the bible says out of love for him and what he has done for me, simple as that
what anyone does is what they do but i do genuinly care humans in general even though i can't perfectly show it all the time

07.16.12 | Birthrite just because you felt there was more to life doesnt mean Christianity should fill it though. If anything start meditating and understand your thoughts/emotions better. You dont need dogma to feel fulfilled. Its just adding another "thing". Like another band as this thread originally started. But whatevs. I guess the thought of life having meaning and afterwards us being judged on our actions gives people hope. It sounds nice at least. |
Wolfhorde
07.16.12 | well, tbh some of the stuff you talk is bit on the fence for me but I'm also a rationalist. but you don't seem to be pushy and listen to some m/ so that's m/
|
BirthRite
07.16.12 | yeah it does sound nice Yankee but to fill the unspoken voids, I actually researched several religions, phylosophies, dogmas, ect whatever you wanna call it before coming to my conclusion
and even if a person researched everything in life there would still be doubt and in the end all we can do is go with "what makes the most sense" to us.
that is the key at least for me yankee, I still have the same childlike innocent mind i had when i was young. Yes ive developed knowledge and a certain level of wisdom over the years but when i say childlike im referring to my openness. Nothing of me is written in stone which is why I'm always open to a discussion of reasoning and so forth.
so with that being said, again, i am where I am right now because it is the single thing that makes the most sense to me if i was doing anything else i would be following my mind and heart brother. |
BirthRite
07.16.12 | and also to make a few more things clearer. like i mentioned before i don't like the term religion and even christian because when you say it people have a world of opinions. i just let my actions show who i am
first of all i'm not the christian who imposes things on other, thanks for noticing that Wolf,
and i don't believe in the common christian thinking of immortal soul, trinity, and hellfire, which ahem are lies and not even biblical which many other christians on this site confirmed they were in line with my thinking on those matters
also i'm not afraid to be humble and tell people anything they want to know about me,[ofcourse not my social ect lol] but you catch my drift
and i would never claim to know all or anything like that even if i knew i had the most common sense in the world, that doesn't matter to me, i just want to show the true meeaning of love, 1 corinthians chapter 13
and i'm new to this site but ive been on here since the mx tabs days which is why i already know all of you, and maybe just maybe i had another account back in the days but maybe i forgot the password to it so i had to create another account, either way that's why i know how to m/ hard |
YankeeDudel
07.16.12 | So why did you choose Christianity over the other religions then Birth? |
Blackbelt54
07.16.12 | this thread is going off topic but I like how everyone on sputnik is getting along even while discussing religion etc. |
BirthRite
07.16.12 | well many religions have common threads in belief like an almighty God, good evil, even the story of the flood, see taoism ect.
I've even looked into witchcraft and satanism you name it
the bible is the most detailed book i've ever read that gives detailed names and dates that give credibility. as far as the controvery over prophecy many bible scholars say that for instance the destruction of babylon was foretold before the event after dating papyrus finds and so forth[yeah lots of reading indeed]
also no other book makes more sense, for instance the book of morman is terribly contradictory to the bible and many mormans don't even know that
i've learned why there are many church denominations and divisions and i've compared some of the recent prophecies of the bible to todays events which are spot on
other books are nice like buddah books and the torah but they are not concrete, the bible claims to be from god, the prophecies in the old testament lead up to christ and his teachings are the most true and loving than all the others, the bible also explains the meanings of the world conditions, it explains why god allows suffering which by the way will not always be this way,, it tells us and gives rational meanings for life, and i found more evidence of godly inspiration in the bible than any other books

07.16.12 | the bible obvs is not a scientific book but when it touches on it it's always accurate
like you know for the longest everyone thought the world was flat but over 2k years ago isaiah 40:22 said the earth is round, that to me gives divine inspiration
and leviticus 11:6 says the hare is the chewer of the cud. and this was long attacked by critics, the rabbit's cud chewing was finally observed by englishman William Corper in the 18th century. the unusual way in which it is done was described in 1940's "proceedings of the zoological society of london vol. 110 pp. 159-163, now how would sheepherder possibly no these things guys?
even finding old bible scripts there have been little changes from what we currently have today so if the bible actually was from God he sure did a good job in preserving its text |

07.16.12 | those are just a few examples Yankee, but obvs there is more to it too but I fancy you're looking for more concrete reasons and those are some of them besides the biblical harmony that everyone disputes too. |

07.18.12 | Sputnik is one of the best websites for finding new music. I come on here daily to check what people are digging |

07.18.12 | @ norwich: this website has one of the best databases of music. Most of the discussions on this site are completely useless, but there are definitely highlights that can't be found anywhere else. |
