Sadly, I have to also agree with you. It seems like creativity was the highest when there weren't so many molds. And I stongly believe that bands pressure to make money greatly affects their level of creativity as well and they all seem to be trying to please a certain notion.

Its nutty how 50 years ago most of the music I listen to now didnt exist. Music as we know it today is still so new, but theres really only so much you can do. What matters is if the music just connects with you.

BirthRite 07.10.12	Yeah I disagree with the guitar comment as well. It's one of the most versatile instruments known to man and it's only limited by a persons creative abilities. I see the guitar going no where but I do see drums becoming more electronic in the future even with metal bands. And it's true there's plenty of garbage out there hiding all the good stuff which is why I joined this site; to gain trust with respectable users who have good taste and know how to weed through all that crap, as well as myself being able to share new music with you guys. I know now and then individuals with innovative musical visions will emerge but the sad thing is I believe many already exists but are stuck in the molds of trying to make money and be successful rather than writing and creating music that is truly free and from their hearts.

Electronic music can create instantly recognizable beats which is essential to pop whereas if all pop was acoustic folk music itd be harder to stand out. Whoever produces the track gets a lot of money Im sure. Its not like pop music producers get any less than hip hop producers. At the end of the day in pop music a producer or session musician mainly just loops the same 5-10 seconds of music for 3 minutes. Instrumentation isnt exactly complex.

After all, they can just let their laptop speak, whereas 'traditional' instruments are a prolonging of the heart and the soul, accompanied by their voice that reflects their inner being, without being enhanced by their laptops.

BirthRite 07.10.12	Haha will do Omni I don't listen to much cloudkicker but from what I've heard there some good stuff with it. Buckethead no doubt is a good guitarist and tries to think oustide the box but I know he can go further. Both DM and BM seem extremely stagnant at moment. It seems any furtherance with DM and BM would step outside the genre anyways but hey I say go for it. Also electronic music is cool for what it is but I agree with the previous comments about the human feel being lost. It's much harder to duplicate human feel on computers than an actual instrument like the drums or guitars. Hence, the reason why most computer drum kits used for metal suck because you can't really replicate soft and accentuated touches without much tedious woke.

omnipanzer 07.10.12	DM and BM suck imho. There are as many genre's of electronic music as there are conventional. I don't think it's hard to find emotion inducing electronic music. I do feel that it is over used to produce up-tempo music however.

Some hit some miss but I've never been truly enthralled by electronic music before, rather it's sometimes impressive but i don't look for impressive when i listen to music, i look for emotion

I just think they're different and electronic music can do things most "real instruments" cant. If electronic music is done well it can be just as soulful as anything. Tell me Boards Of Canada or Massive Attack doesnt have soul. Its still made by people. Of course the background music to Justin Bieber is going to suck tho.

auberginedreams 07.10.12	i agree with trebor, electronic music is cool but i'll always prefer music made with a guitar. the problem with electronic music is that it can become outdated really easily, since it's so wrapped up in advances in technology. once a certain synth sound becomes old or cheap sounding, it can really take away from a song.

I'm pretty confident most people who play percussion for more than 2 years will agree with me. To me, an electronic set is the lazy version of the real thing. It has these sounds already programmed into it that take time to do in a 'real' set. Plus, it will never replicate every sound one can make with an acoustic one. As for music in a couple of decades from now, innovation will always be present in music. You can't hope for that album that changes music as we know it for the better every few years. It won't happen. The electronic stuff nowadays is just a fad that will change in four to five years or so (referring to the mainstream, obviously.)

What someone else digs, inevitably someone else won't. There will always be tons of creative musicians out there, and even though you may not like most of the new releases, i at least respect creativity and innovation. Its not like I or most of you are creating music anyway. Debating about what music sucks and what doesn't is a battle none of us can win, except when it comes to the obvious choices such as teen-pop and Lil Wayne.

Completely agree, I had a friend tell me back in 97' or so that in the next ten years Electronic music would be the norm. I laughed in her face and I still think that's bull shit. Electronic is an effect... an extremely diverse effect but still one that should be used artfully to enhance. There is nothing like hearing a new Jack White (feel free to insert any other guitarist here) riff recorded in analog. If you can't make electronic recordings sound that good then it will never be the dominant media or at least it will never permanently overshadow the thousands of great manual instruments played at this time.

If new music genres would take over and push the 'older' ones into the realm of the forgotten we wouldn't still have jazz bands, we wouldn't still have metal bands, we wouldn't still have blues bands, we wouldn't still have folk bands. The genres will probably evolve into different directions but that's it.

omnipanzer 07.11.12	If you ever take the initiative to come over hear I cannot emphasize enough how much I would rec you spending a week in New Orleans. Any time one week after Mardi Gras through to the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. All the workers aren't jacked up from the crowed but it's still during tourist season so they are still working hard for the tips.

I think there's plenty of room for them to grow and develop their sound. They can add more creativity within their intervals and explore other unique and satisfying patterns[subjectively ofcourse]. Experimenting with different tones can also add a bit of heaviness to their sound while simultaneously experimenting with dynamics as well.
