Acanthus 05.20.12	Oh I have a night where I can play whatever, the crowd is just always larger for the dubstep events. Even though the term EDM is used for many of the nights it really just boils down to dubstep in the end. Venue's also are cautious about throwing other genre parties, trance is something we've been working on for ages to get a full night of.

Acanthus 05.20.12	I took a two week hiatus, and haven't been to any dubstep oriented event. It's rather strange to realize that the crowds don't want a brand new track broken, they want the remixes that are 3 or 5 weeks old. Came back from that two week and did an hour and a half of The Chemical Brothers, The Crystal Method, Rob Dougan, and the like. Was really cathartic.

Acanthus 05.20.12	I like to poke fun at house due to the intro's and outro's but I'm not 100% serious about it. The big festivals are cool, though many of the new acts I dislike talent wise.

Acanthus 05.21.12	A lot of house I come across (not as familiar with it's subgenre's so keep that in mind) has a very lengthy 16 measures or so of just the beat before the track really kicks off. This makes mixing house extremely easy compared to other genre's that lack this intro and outro section, so I poke a bit at the DJ's who are only house jockeys.

At the end of the day you simply have to ask yourself why you got into this in the first place? Was it to play good tunes and get people dancing? Because if your job is to play what the crowd wants to hear, then a compromise is going to have to be made. You're not a producer where people are lining up just to hear YOU spin, they just want to hear SOMEONE spin - you can't just play what you want to play all of the time

Acanthus 05.21.12	Indeed. I go through periods of loving my music and really despising everyone who ever walked the planet and thought they could be a DJ without knowing how to beat match. A nice three-way issue between myself, the other DJ's, and the crowd. I think I'm going to try and go see some other event's elsewhere so I can compare, maybe get some new ideas and the like.

Acanthus 05.21.12	House however is more monotonous for me than trance, I'm biased. Often those measures in trance also still have bass lines and the like, house gets away with just the drum hits.
