I never reviewed an album before (i bet you hear this all the time)
You probabably have heard of Rocky Votolato's "White Daisy Passing" from the new album "Makers", it was played on the OC(i think the show is awful, but great publicity).
Rocky Votolato is a singer/songwriter was originally frontman for the band "Waxwing", who also happened to have his brother Cody Votolato(Blood Brothers vocalist) as the 2nd guitarist of the band.
This album is almost exslusively acoustic other than the drums that are played throughout some of the songs. As the band grew, they went their separate ways, and this is one of the albums that came out of that.
The songs all kind of have the same basis, Rocky usually starts the songs out with soft vocals accompanied with guitar, and then later on it gets more passionate. But don't let that think that this album is just repetitve and boring through your listen, it is far from that. There are drum layed out during some songs, but I still would call it an acoustic album, also in some songs Rocky plays the harmonica, which really adds to the music if you ask me, also some of the songs do pick up some speed. My favorite tracks would be "Suicide Medicine" and "Automatic Rifle".
From what i seen, the lyrics seem to be mostly based about domestic issues, family issues, relationships (not neccessarily love), the songs really gave me this "cozy" feeling wenever i listen to it, like that folkish feel to it, but we see that more apparent in the music in his other album "Makers" (which came out in easrly 2006 on Barsuk Records).
I suggest you pick it up and listen to it on a cool summer day while just relaxing, i find that very satisfying with this album.
With that said, if you dig Singer/Songwriter stuff, you are doing yourself a huge favor by checking this album, or any Rocky Votolato album in fact.
