Review Summary: All about fun.
Many bands go to the dark side, and shed their original skin. Millionaires, however, simply improved their sound, production, and added ultra perky singing to their already boiling pot of potent flavours. It was the natural direction to go in order to keep their party girl, party pop attitude, but infuse it with a more mature sound. Not only was it an excellent direction, but it succeeded in spades. Previously raging audiences were doomed to continue hating, but the much more accessible sound of this album has aged thoroughly well.
Millionaires are no Britney Spears but this is the closest they got. Deleting their giggling girl, alcohol-hammered, shouted-out lead vocals, singing fills the air space instead. Crunkcore has possibly never sounded this clean, and really, it’s simply pop (from the scene kids) at this point in their discography. However, there is nothing simple about it. The autotune perfectly dances on the ears, along with zesty synths that intensely permeate. The album is calculated to be utter pop perfection, and it almost is. Like most Millionaires albums, the choruses are to die for. The singing is rather pretty too.
Millionaires can’t help their partying attitude, and thus an issue arises. The lyrics are repetitive to the point of frustration, with the same referencing hard crotches in (what seems like) nearly every song. Lyrical variety is not here, and thus a .5 is negated for their infinite crotch references. The lyrics are generally funny though, and match the bass bumps. It’s music to make their audience lose inhibitions - exactly what the band excel at.
Their are laws in certain countries that state that swearing is unprofessional. However, I doubt any of us give a *** about that. Especially not Millionaires, who sing, “Middle finger in the air if your pussy’s tight, all the boys are getting hard, down to *** tonight”. If such a vibe greatly upsets you, you’re probably old. Let’s be honest: sex is the new black. Despite potential annoyance against such horny lyrics, hooks are here to hook you, and they will attach to your skin. These girls know exactly how to work a catchy song, and this album is one of their greatest achievements.
